I Tried SCULPTING For The VERY FIRST Time?!

If you've ever wondered if a painter can sculpt..now you're about to find out. I used polymer sculpey clay to make a giant (well...giant to me..) sculpture of an animal I love. I then painted it and I was really happy with how it turned out! This is my very first time sculpting and I had a lot of fun! What do you think? Have you tried sculpting before?

Just a couple tips in case you ever sculpt again:: 1. Work the clay. Right out of the package, clay tends to be brittle and generally hard to work with. If you take a minute to just knead the clay it becomes much more manageable. 2. Make sure your aluminum structure is really compact. If you leave gaps, air can get trapped under the sculpture and expand in the oven, causing the sculpture to crack when you bake it. Loved the little bear and I hope you continue to work with the medium!

for anyone interested in doing this stuff: cutting wire with scissors is a possibility, but be warned that the ends of the wire you cut that way are very sharp and also your scissors will eventually get really effed up

I think you did good. I absolutely am terrible with drawing and painting, i can only do abstract stuff but i really love clay and 3d art. Its so calming and simple that its fun. Your bear was pretty good. I like how you made the fur texture also! Maybe you should try line, or wire art where you make 3d objects with the outline of wire or some type of line. Its a new exciting way to make 3d art for anyone who hasnt tried! I did it with wooden dowels in my 3d art class and i made a willow tree by hanging green yarn off the branches. I made the branches out of wire and the trunk out of wood. It was so fun to make!

I was so intimidated by clay for the longest time until I tried it and fell in love. It's so satisfying and therapeutic. My favorite thing about it is that if you make a mistake, it's easily fixable, unlike some other mediums. I love making miniature and am so happy you love it too. That bear is phenomenal, let alone for a first try at sculpting. You really have some talent! I hope to see more clay related videos!

LITTLE BEAR LOOKS SO CUTE WUT such a successful first sculpt!!! next time if you wanna get rid of those teeny tiny bobbles of clay, which come from creating the lines of fur, use a small brush with a tiny bit of lighter fluid (or rubbing alcohol) as it's the perfect thing to smooth Sculpey!

Oh hell no, lol. I really like her channel, but please don't watch her for tips on polymer clay when there's loads of actual experts on KZbin. I've seen her put regular nail polish onto polymer clay, which most of the time reacts badly with the clay and makes it turn to mush over time. I've also seen her bash several amazing brands of clay because they're harder to condition, but if she'd actually tested them she'd have known they hold tiny details so much better because of that saltiness inducing firmness of the clay. After all that cringing I just decided to only watch her videos without clay in it, lol.

A little tip I found useful for getting rid of little crumbley bits is wiping them away with a paint brush. It works great. Also your sculpture looks amazing!!

for a first-timer, this looks really good. I would've sanded it lightly after it cooled from backing to get rid of any stragglers of clay but that's just what I would do. Otherwise, this bear is really adorable. And I personally think it looks much better painted, it makes it look like a 3D sketch which is really cool

I always cover all wire and foil with masking tape. I was told it helps the Sculpey to bond and also saves using too much of the expensive clay. Also, dont worry about adding too much detail until you get all parts added as you may moosh them!! Warming Sculpey helps to get it moving.
