I loathe folding laundry, but I loathe the piles of clean clothes sitting around more, so I switch loads around, get another going, and fold what I'd just taken from the dryer while the next load is doing. I know not everyone has the time to do that, but I do lol.

Scrubbing bubbles and a scotch pad ( looooorrrrdddd thank you!) and believe it or not easy off will remove urine stains from toilets! It’s a winning battle if you get out of bed and get dressed. For some people that is a lot…. I know how you feel. It feels unfair every one else gets to wake up and win at life and some don’t. Muscle Soreness ( like a heavy work out) is also a symptom of depression a lot of people don’t know that. It makes it hard to even get moving.

The only thing I’d change? Each person has their own hamper that stays in their room / closet. When the hamper is full, the clothes get washed. Not having to sort clean clothes by who they belong to has drastically reduced how long it takes to put clothes away - each load belongs to one room!

A family that my family was friends with used to call chores “home blessings”. It changed everyone’s attitudes to positives. Each child had a “big home blessing” to do once a week. They rotated each week, it was accurate to the child’s age and ability. Not every big chore got done every week, sometimes it went out of rotation for a month, but it taught all of them house work as they grew up.

I would like to make it more for them, where they grow to appreciate it and read thier own to do lists and tasks. There was just something about my mother that made me dread doing alot.. @chantellmoller5384

That is exactly what I was thinking no way is this only 30 minutes and for me doing laundry everyday is not practical I live alone so not that much to do but I also live in an apartment where there are shared laundry rooms a total of 6 washers and 6 dryers for like 150 suites sooo trying to slide in a empty time is hard and you have to pay 2$ for a wash and 1.75$ for a dry

I was thinking the same thing! Depends on the type of load, but it’s not uncommon for just folding laundry to take 30 minutes! This looks like it would be amazing for moms who are lucky enough to continue to stay at home when their kids are in school but between working full time and then helping with homework and making dinner and bedtime and maybe actually having some downtime to myself… yeah, this isn’t something I can do daily.

Girl, get a roomba. If you have mostly hardwood, it is life changing!! Just set it to run every night when the kids go to sleep and wake up to shiny clean floors every day. Also, pro tip- if you have more than one bathroom, keep a set of cleaning supplies in each. Gloves, toilet cleaner, glass/surface cleaner, etc. That way you're not hauling things around the house and you can wipe down the bathroom every day or two without it becoming a whole thing.
@ThisIsATireFire
@ThisIsATireFire 2 жыл бұрын
I LOVE the roomba idea. But, between the Australian Cattle Dog, cat, and me with my long hair, we'd kill that thing in a week. We've killed 2 stick-vacs in 4 years. So I sweep a few times a week, dust mop a few times a week and damp mop the hardwood every couple of weeks. I spray mop or steam mop the linoleum about once a week. We live in the country, have heavy clay soil and pet chickens out back. I have to accept that there's going to be a certain amount of dust or I'll be dust and damp mopping the whole house from one end to the other all day long and never get anything else done.

A few things from a mom of older kids: 1. YOU'RE DOING GREAT. If your house isn't the cleanest on the block but your kid(s) KNOW they are loved, have a routine that works for your family, and are growing into reasonable little human beings most of the time, you are doing GREAT! 2. Make putting things away a game - and give things a clear "home" to go in. You: "Oh no!! The dirty (plastic) cup is on the floor!! Where does it live??" Kid: "In the sink!" You: "Such a smartie! Can you please put this where it lives? Thank you!!" You: "Hmmm, that shirt looks clean! Did it escape from its friends?? Oh no! Where does it live?" Kid: "In the dresser!!" You: "It's lonely, can you put it back with its friends? Thank you!" You get the idea - make it a game as you teach them where everything lives. Hubby taught the girls where to find the screwdrivers and batteries and things like that when they were kindergarteners. And he taught them how to use them by going around and tightening the drawer pulls - so every now and then they go around tightening drawer pulls as its needed. It if we need to change batteries, they know where the bag of fresh batteries is and the bag of dead batteries to put the old ones in. 3. Everyone in a family pitches in - from a young age. Think about ways that your kiddo can help. Can they fetch things for you - like the paper towels that are 10 feet away? As you dust, give them a dry dust cloth and let them get the baseboards and low stuff - it won't be perfect but they get to act like you and that thrills them. As you prepare meals, can they hand you an apple or the bag of chips or box of cereal from the pantry or whatever? As you empty the dishwasher, can they put away their plates and bowls and silverware? (We always had a low cabinet for their plates, cups, etc. We still do for all of their cups because they can get low a lot easier than I can. :D) As you fold laundry, let them hand you things or put the folded things back in the basket. Yes, it may come a bit unraveled, but you can fix it as you put things away. The point is to let them help! It makes them feel like they're big kids and great helpers. Be patient - they won't be perfect. But find ways for them to help from a very young age so they understand that this is part of being a family.

@@hillary96renteria82 Thank you! The more fun you can make chores, the less like work they feel. :) The things that bore or frustrate us can be wonderful games when kids don't know it's boring or frustrating! One time my younger forgot her SHOES and didn't realize it until we were in the parking lot of the school!! It turned into a huge hassle for both of us parents, and nearly made me late for an appointment. Using Love and Logic, we decided to waste kiddo's time by making her wipe down all the baseboards in the house. She turned it into a racing game and had so much fun that she didn't realize it was supposed to be punishment busywork! My kids love to put furniture together because they see it as a big puzzle... whereas I get so easily frustrated with things that don't fit perfectly or what board is this again?? :) It's amazing to me how reframing something helps me see it from a different point of view, as well.

All of this. We used to do clean up derby in the play room once a day and Mom would sit and play the announcer and call out progress like a race. Made my boys laugh and they hurried to do it fast and well and get a mention, and they loved it. Also, my youngest just turned 18 and now they help cook and clean. For many years my house was kind of a mess. I regret nothing. Now it's clean and even maybe somewhat nicely decorated. But a little part of me is sad.

I've seen some parents just flat out lazy. Kids throw food on the floor and it's stomped into the carpet and left. I understand being too busy to dust with a houseful of people, but you teach your kids to clean up after themselves and don't let them waller in compost.

Personally, as the homeschooling mom of 6, I'm always amused by "do this easy thing, and you'll have an effortlessly clean home" advice. It's so funny- her "daily tasks" are my kids "daily chores". They each get one, I clean the kitchen counters daily and do meal prep, dishes, and pet care. They each have a weekly "special chore" which roughly equates to her weekly tasks. My hubby does the laundry a couple times a week and gives each kid a basket of their neatly folded clothes to be put away. When your kids are old enough, I really recommend delegating tasks. We have chore time each morning and it's the only thing that makes our home usable!

You can actually already have them doing things if they can walk. My 3 year old takes out the trash in the bathrooms, (they obviously don’t get to full, so they’re not heavy.) She helps me put clothes in the dryer, and then into the hamper, and is able to fold hand towels, and put all her socks into pairs, and helps me cook. If you start them young, it just becomes second nature and they don’t have a hard time keeping tidy when they get older.

I've been a stay at home mom for 20+ years and I love systems like this to get us back on track. I started with FlyLady and quickly learned that cleaning goes faster if you stay on top of it. I also enlisted the help of my kids with decluttering. We used to set a timer and get to work. With four kids, I got 70% help, 30% bickering over who wasn't helping, but that was always better than no help at all. We've had to tweak a lot of the systems to suit our home/lifestyle, but it beats spending an entire day trying to clean.

From personal experience I used this method through my entire 20s while living in an apartment and it was so easy. As soon as my husband and I bought our 1st home it all went away. We quickly realized that we bought too much home and the size of it makes whole home cleaning feel like a mountain. Can't wait to down size and get back to a more manageable cleaning routine.

I used to work in a hotel as a housekeeper, and I can tell you that making your bed should not be the first task you complete in your cleaning regimen. The sun is not only great for getting your daily dose of Vitamin D but it is also fantastic at disinfecting your mattress, and pillows daily. It may make your room look untidy but let that sunshine in, and spread your pillows out in a single layer. Flip the pillows over after 10 minutes to expose the other side for the same amount of time, then move them to the top of the bed so the mattress is exposed for 10-20 minutes before making the bed.

I love the Clean Mama method! Honestly she has a post on each day and the little details of how to complete each task is actually super efficient! E.g. the bathroom she recommends spraying certain surfaces in one bathroom and then going to the next one and spraying surfaces then going back to wipe everything down and letting the cleaners work for you. Honestly I didn't think it'd make a difference but it actually did!

Broom and mop the floors. And everyday: 1. Do bed. 2. Put away stuff in the moment you finish with them. 3. Wash dishes the moment you finish eating. 4. Broom floor before going to bed. 5. Clean the kitchen countertop and backsplash after last dinner. 100% effective.

No way that is doable in 30 minutes. I think by having that as a tag line gets people to click on Clean Mama's page, but that's not possible. An hour and a half is still a short amount of time to get all of that done. Let's just be realistic. And if you work all day and run errands after work and get home at 7:00 - 7:30PM, the last thing you want to do is spend and hour, hour and a half doing more work! But hey...it's a nice guide if you can do it! You did great! And you are very relatable and not trying to show you have a perfect life. Thanks for that!

Messy is my life, but when I do clean, I want to hyper focus and tackle it all in one day, which is not the best way to go about it. Sometimes we get shifted a day and then of course there are weeks where we miss things. But I hack it this way…. Our shower/tub gets cleaned every other week and mopping gets done 1x/month unless there are areas where our dog may have tracked dirt into the house on a rainy day etc and we DO NOT do a load of laundry a day. I appreciate the advice that these ladies are trying to give...but...if you only have two or three people in your house, you can definitely get all your household chores done in a short amount of time. We are a homeschooling, homesteading family of 6. We do a minimum of 3 loads of laundry a day. I have a HUGE whiteboard with every single household and farm chore written on it. Every day has a set of chores, for example, Monday is the vineyard/orchards/blueberries, then the pool/yard/sandbox area, and the girls' laundry. Each area of the farm is tended to at least once a week. We divide out the house into chore rooms so every single room of the house gets cleaned every single day, including the children's bedrooms. This is also in addition to the twice daily animal chores for feed & water and habitat cleaning. (room, animal, and dishes chores get rotated weekly among the kids) This also includes schoolwork for grades 8, 6, 3, 1. Plus jiu-jitsu classes and cooking from scratch. We're up at 5:30 and go to bed at 10. How do we manage all this? Organization, planning, and the rule "EVERYBODY HELPS"....oh, and lots & lots of coffee!! When the children were younger, I would put a sinkful of dishes on to soak for 5 minutes and clean a room for that 5 minutes. Wash & rinse dishes, put another load on to soak & clean a room for 5 minutes. I could get the entire house clean within a couple of hours. The trick to keeping a clean house is to teach the children early that they can help and are expected to do so. It will take longer when they are littler & you really have to resist the urge to just do it yourself for the sake of saving time. Even an 18-month-old can help put laundry into the dryer. Then once the children are older, they are already well-versed in chores & you aren't having to break old habits to instill new ones. Also...lead by example. If you don't want your kids leaving their socks or dirty dishes lying around, don't do it either. We're a family. Everyone helps...mom isn't the maid!

That's an awesome system and great advice for teaching kids early on to help with chores. My little one loves helping me sweep, wipe things down and picks up little pieces of trash and hands them to me to throw away. He's only 1 but he can grasp that if mom is cleaning up, I can help clean too.

I used it for a while, and it gave me the tools to get a grip on how to keep up with stuff. I actually buss it out every few years, to “reset”, just to get back on track. This actually sounds a lot like this, and it doesn’t require expensive planners, just some index cards and a file box.

I resonate with this SO much from a few years ago when i started my minimalism and cleaning routine "journey". I'm going to do the worst thing and inject my opinion when it wasn't asked and give a couple life changing tips that may just be privileged because I'm going to suggest expensive items to buy that are 1000% worth it. A dyson stick vacuum makes vacuuming from hard woods to tile to carpet and even thick carpet quick and easy and no cord to deal with, we have (I think?) the v11 pet version and it was worth saving up for. Utilizing a dishwasher is a lifesaver for me I put dishes in throughout the day, as soon as it's full I start it and do the rest of the days by hand if there is any.. I open it before bed or in the morning to let it air dry fully and put away before breakfast each day so it's ready for dishes again and I never worry about dishes anymore. Finally I'd just like to say - I love your style of humor!

My issue with laundry is that I don't have a dryer so it has to air dry and depending on the season that can take a while... So happy to have moved to a place where I can hang out the laundry in the bathroom though, so at least it's out of the way! But me and my roommate have to coordinate with this. And I agree about the making the bed! I always live in tiny apartments with the bed in the living space, so that makes it even more important.

In my wildest dreams, I could lead a schedule like this 😭😭😭. As someone who struggles with limited spoons from chronic, medically-induced fatigue (plus ✨depression✨), I could literally never maintain a routine like this. I would use up all my spoons SO fast with this much daily cleaning. I can barely shower, cook dinner and do dishes on work days, let alone think of cleaning on top of all that. I have to rotate all those chores in the video over a whole month with my limited spoons, let alone weekly 😢.

My youngest will be 18 next month and people have asked me how I keep my house so clean for the last 25 years (my oldest's age). This is exactly how I do it! The dailies are the same, except one of the daily loads of laundry was kids bedding and another was mine. Then I did one "big task" a day. Sundays always off and that "bedding day" was "deep clean one room" day. It has changed throughout the years and I have white couches now, so once every 6 weeks "steam clean couch" is in there. Clean house and I DON'T spend hours a day cleaning. Never did.

OMG😱 that sounds awful to me. My first thought was: "He's not a husband, he's a grown up todler. You are NOT his mother so stop cleaning up his mess." Like, how old is he? If he behaves like a child,treat him as such: Keep the money and buy something special for yourself (and thank him for it) DO NOT pick up his clothes. Just don't. Tell him to put it in the laundry bin and that ONLY dirty laundry that is in there will be washed. Because you are his wife not his maid. And stick to that!! He will run out of socks or underwear soon enough.(did this with my sons when they were teenagers. "No clean underwear? Gee son, I'm sooo sorry but I allready did laundry today. I don't have time to wash your clothes now. Didn't you put yours in the laundry bin? Guess you're going to have to wear your underwear for two days then.But I promise to TRY ( and fail😜)to wash them tomorrow..." They got the message after a couple of times.) Some lessons are learned the hard way... Collect all the mail and put it on his bedside. Or on his pillow. Every day. He will get fed up ."Oh,but I've only collected them for you honey, didn't know where you would want them." And ask him ( with your sweetest smile on your face) if he could think of a better place for it. Make hím come up with a solution. Stop pampering him! He's your husband. A man. Not a child.

I have designated “dump zones” for my husband- his night stand, next to his sink in the master & the end table next to his recliner. He can clutter his areas as much as he wants to & I have developed the ability to ignore them.

I'm not saying the method doesn't work, I'm saying it's not 30 minutes. Making my bed and doing one load of laundry to put away is 30 minutes by itself. The daily tasks is at least 30 to 45 minutes even if the laundry didn't take almost 15 minutes to put up. I'm only do the weekly task for Monday and I'm sitting here going cleaning both of my bathrooms is 100% a 30 to 45 minutes job all by themselves. This is about an hour or two of cleaning daily here. It also assumes I'm not working a full time job outside of the home because with the amount of time I need to sleep, my transit to work time, the amount of time I am at work, the amount I need to keep myself clean with showers, and cooking for my family, I don't have one to two hours left in the day.

One wonderful day when our children were still quite young, I came across a magazine article that expressed the truth that an immaculate house was no place to raise children. 😄 This daring thought struck me as important enough that I ripped the article from the publication and hung it inside our front door, so we could all stay reminded of priorities. Our house was a home, and we knew the children wouldn’t lose an inch of height or a smidgen of personal development by growing up with clutter around the edges. Lol! I was most proud that we didn’t feel the need to apologize for the clutter. 🥰 Living alone, retired, and in a small apartment has made housekeeping as simple as can be. I still don’t apologize when it’s messier than normal. 😄
