Isabella, since your hair is fine and not type 4, I wouldn't recommend co-washing! I know everyone raves about it, but the curly girl method is not as great as everyone thinks it is. Yes, it's a great starting point with heaps of amazing tips, but personally, I've found for fine, 2A-3B hair, co-washing just doesn't do the job when trying to remove products that are in your hair, like creams and gels. I recommend that instead of co-washing, just wash your hair with a sulfate-free shampoo a little more regularly and use a sulfate shampoo every 2-3 washes to act as a 'reset' button on your scalp. I've tried this with 3A hair, and found it causes way less hair loss and scalp irritation, as well as increasing the quality and strength of my hair!

thanks for sharing x I'm not co-washing, it's a nonfoaming cleanser and i didn't realise when I bought it, so I didn't intend to co-wash when I started. my hair is a mixture of fine blonde and a lot of coarse red so it's difficult to label it and figure out what works, but thank you for your advice.

The idea of co-washing terrified me (oily, fine hair) so I never tried it. I use a sulphate shampoo once a month and deep condition every couple of weeks, and that seems to work for me. CGM can be like a cult sometimes!

Coming from someone who does have natuturally curly hair. I don't really use the curly girl method. I shampoo and conditioner with either a repairing product or a curl product, then I put a frizz control in my hair following with my actual curl product and scrunch those into my hair. Personally, I don't diffuse my hair because it adds frizz, but that is just my personal opinion on diffusing my hair, it just doesn't work for me. If it works for you go ahead and do it. I have tried the curly girl method and that doesn't really work for me. What works for me is finding what does work for me and piece it together to where I am happy with my curl pattern. Also, Isabella, I don't remember if you have addressed this in one of your videos, but NEVER brush/comb your hair when it is not wet. This will causebreakage of your hair, frizz and negatively effect your curl pattern.

Hey Isabella, speaking from experience I can definitely confirm that most likely your products are too heavy for your hair. When my hair transitioned from straight to wavy/curly I used products like creams and heavy gels which was notttt a good look on me because it make my hair heavy instead of light and bouncy. And to try and fight the weighed down effect it caused me to try methods like clips or drying upside down (yes I sat on my bed with my head upside down lol) to make it more voluminous. Instead of the products you might be using here are my suggestions: Instead of heavy creams I'd use lighter creams, try the Not Your Mother's Combing Cream (I use the Tahitian Gardenia one). For gels, I use mousse, same as creams I use Not Your Mother's and I use the maximum hold kind because mousse has a much lighter hold than most gels, so it's best to use the strongest you can find. I used to have to refresh my curls every morning because I would find that gels and heavy creams would actually malform my curls when I slept at them at night, which may not be the case for you, but I definitely helped when I switched over to lighter products. So now I only refresh them with a refreshing oil (I use Aussie's Miracle Curls Curl Refresher) which is very light and doesn't leave a shiny effect on my hair, and if I ever have a bad hair day I'll turn to spritzing it with water then using the curl refresher. Also another tip is if you feel your hair is dull, use argan oil (I use the one from OGX) on the ends, a very small amount, like 2 sprays rubbed between your hands, then comb it down one half of your hair and repeat. Some tips for the actual washing/drying part of your hair routine: Shampoo only the roots, and condition only the bottoms/middle (but avoid your scalp). The ends of our hair are typically more dry (especially with any kind of natural curl) and shampooing the roots should be enough to cleanse your hair as that is the place that collects the most dirt, and any excess is removed when rinsing the shampoo out. And I recommend against conditioning the roots because it can make it weighed down because of the moisturizing products in most conditioners, and our scalps already produce enough oil/sebum to keep the roots moisturized without any of our additional help. For drying, the first thing I do is I kind of break up my hair by flipping my head over and sort of separating the soaked hair from my scalp so that it is hanging loose from my head and not slicked back from the water any more (I hope that made sense it's kind of hard to describe). Then when it's still soaking I add my combing cream raking it through, then using the "praying hands method" I add the mousse and scrunch after. After that I use a microfiber towel (or cotton shirt) and remove excess moisture. Then after I spray on the argan oil to my ends if needed, and refresh in the morning. I workout every single day, so unlike the CGM usually recommends I wash my hair very frequently to avoid sweat/dirt buildup in my hair. This is what works for me and I've had curly hair for about 2 years now. I've gone through a LOT of products to get to the method I use now, and I've had a LOT of bad hair days, so hang in there because eventually you'll figure it out. Hope this helped!

Heyy so here are some things I realised about my hair that might help yours or anyone's. Just for context, I have 2B, 2C, 3A hair. 1. It's very important to cleanse your hair properly. I do a deep cleanse with a sulphate shampoo every month, but I also have a sulphate free shampoo (by cantu) that helps to remove buildup. I use that one in one day and use another one that's more gentle the next wash day. 2. When I style my hair wet, I get much more definition that when it's damp. Make sure your hair makes the squishy sound when you aply your products, that means its absorbing it. I dont use a microphyber towel before aplying the styling products, only after. But your hair also must not be too wet, you have to find a mid term. 3. I scrunch my hair with a tshirt or a microphyber towel after styling it and then I plop it (if you dont know what it is, please search it, I think it will help you a lot) 4. Hammock difusing makes your waves way more defined and curlier. 5. You should also try fingercoiling your hair, manesbymel has a great video on that. 6. Deep conditioning every week (with a silicone free deep conditioner, I can't stress that enough) using heat to open the cuticles is very important, if you use heat you hair will be much more hydrated. I started doing that every week and my hair became way softer and shinier. 7. You shuld try using a curl cream with the gel, to give you more definition and less frizz. But look for one that is light, made for wavy hair, that way it won't weight your hair down. Also, a curl defining cream is different than a leave in, cause its supposed to give you definition. A leave in will ony give it moisture, not definition. If I were you I wouldn't use a leave in, it might weight your hair down, just look for a cream that says it will define your hair I hope I helped someone, this took me a long time to figure out but please remember that everyone's hair is different and just because it worked for me doesn't mean it will work for you

Hey Isabella, as someone who has been doing the cgm for about 10 months, I can relate to the struggles you are going though about good and bad hair days during the first few months of cgm. But, here are some things I’ve learned that I think could really help your curls/waves 1. Your hair is in the middle of transitioning from straight to curly and it’s going to be pretty funky for generally about 2-3 months and then it will likely get better. 2. You seem to have a lot of buildup from the products you use so you probably need to clarify your hair about once a month, which means washing your hair with a sulfate shampoo which is then followed up by a deep conditioner (I recommend suave daily clarifying shampoo for wavy/curly hair) 3. I think the products you are using might be too heavy for your hair and you might want to look into lighter products or products made for waves, because it it very likely that they are weighing down your hair and curl pattern. 4. Also if you are looking for more uniformity in your waves/curls I would definitely recommend trying finger coiling, which will not only make your curls more uniform, but will also make them appear tighter( Curly Cailin has a video on how to do this) I hope this can help your waves/curls out some! Keep up the good work because it will eventually pay off!

Marcy G Yes! I was going to say some of the same stuff! For waves, try a spray leave-in instead of a heavier cream-based one and use milks and other more watery styling products instead of thick ones like butters. It should definitely help! Those are great 30-day results, and it will only keep getting better. Don’t give up!

Dani B Hairspray should be fine for hold, but it won’t moisturize and fight frizz... I keep hearing good things about the NYM Curl Talk leave-in, but I haven’t tried it since I can’t find it in my city. You could try ordering it online if you have trouble finding it too. An influencer I follow said it’s probably a good idea to spray it into your hand first and then smooth and rake it through since it has a really concentrated spray radius. You might also look at the Shea Moisture Coconut and Hibiscus line. They have a styling milk that I think is supposed to condition and fight frizz. I have 3a/3b curls, so I’ve been using the Curl Enhancing Smoothie, which is much thicker and heavier than the milk. That line smells amazing! Try one of those or something similar (look for a more watery texture) for moisture and frizz and then maybe a mousse for hold. I’ve heard good things about NYM Curl Talk mousse.

error 404 When you get out of the shower you should first try scrunching your hair. If you don’t know how to do this, there are tons of vids on how to do it. Make sure to avoid shampoos, conditioners, and styling products with lots of harsh chemicals like alcohols and sulfates. You also want to make sure that your hair is hydrated because curly hair tends to be dryer than regular hair. So for products I would recommend using leave in conditioner(they have sprays and creams so if you have thicker hair it’s better to use cream and if it’s thinner it’s better to use spray) you’re also going to want to use styling gels creams and mousses. I personally think that gel and cream hold my curls better than mousse. ( it again if you have thinner hair mousse and gel would probably better for you, but you’ll want to get a lighter gel. But thick hair could use a thicker gel and the cream.) you’re going to want to wash your hair with lukewarm water and avoid any type of heat styling product as much as possible. Try drying your hair with a microfiber towel. You can also use a diffuser for your hairdryer but I prefer to let my hair air dry because I notice that I have a lot less frizz but with a diffuser I have a lot more volume. You can look up videos on how to diffuse your hair as well. You’re also not going to want wash your hair to much because like I said, curly hair is typically more dry and washing it too often can strip your scalp of it’s natural oils. Also avoid brushing your hair while it’s dry. A lot of people say not to brush it while it’s wet but I use a wide toothed comb to get the tangled out of my hair in the shower. Some people have different opinions on how to apply products to curly hair. Some people say to take it through with your hands and some say to scrunch it in. There are so many videos in KZbin about curly hair that you can watch as well that show you what products to you and how to use them. Hope I helped😉

@@eutuxia_. you want a funny girl that have beautiful curly hair and literally just spills out truth? Try Manes by Mel I prefer her because she follows some steps of CGM, but not all. They say not to brush your hair while dry, and my issue is that I myself CAN'T do that. I do have pretty wavy and curly hair, but I also have 3.5 feet of it. Lol you try brushing all that with just a wide tooth comb and getting those tiny hair knots out haha it's impossible

Definitely keep trying and figuring out what works for you! Stay healthy & I hope whatever was getting you down this month gets better. P.S. I find that hair loose in a satin/silk bonnet can help preserve curls better if the pony tail isn’t working

Hey! I’m a stylist from DC and watching your hair transition into soft curls has been very interesting! This is actually very common with alot of my young clients and it’s all about embracing what is becoming of you and your beauty 💗Since watching I’ve noticed alot of beautiful curls forming in the back but challenging around the face and on top. Your scrunching technique is perfect. I would suggest taking one inch square sections around the crown of your head and with your scrunching gel twist your hair into ringlets while your head is tilted over. This encourages volume and enhancement of curls to form as you diffuse. Let me know if that helps!👋🏽🙆🏽‍♀️😀

Your hair is very pretty and you don’t give it enough credit. I thought your hair looked lovely many of the times you thought you were having a bad hair day. Try making your own flaxseed gel and see how that works. It doesn’t leave any residue, it’s all natural and super easy to make. Also, aloe vera juice and gel really helps hold curls. Try the Lily of the Desert brand and see if it makes a difference. Your hair looks 100% better than before!!! This method is totally working for you. God bless and stay well!

I have curly hair. I recommend to not put you hair up on a ponytail at night, I recommend to put your hair on one simple braid. Ones you wake up take off the braid and scrunch it up with mouse or gel, I recommend the Volume Pantene mouse. I don’t find gel to help me as much as mouse does and ponytails are definetly a no for me since it pulls the curls from the top and just staightens them out. A braid will keep your curls during the night and won’t get as messy. Try just one braid, I part my hair down the middle and do the braid lose at the top and tighter while going down. And for showering I recommend detangling the hair with your fingers and not with a brush so you won’t pull on the curls straight. And for after showering I recommend to scrunch it up with mouse and not detangaling the hair so much. Pleaseeee try this hopefully it works on your hair, it works perfectly on mine and I love my hair. So please read this comment and take it to consideration. Love your channel 💗

It looks healthy, very healthy and shiny. Your hair has its own soul and you should give it its freedom to be it. Continue on the journey, keep giving it love and care. I love the cut as well, you have mentioned cutting layers, i think you should not do it. It is amazing the way it is.

I’ve been trying the curly girl method too lately. And funny enough, the days that I was too lazy, I just wet brush my hair straight and left it the rest of the day and the curls that form those days have been the best!!

Agree! I always brush my hair when I get out of the shower because otherwise it gets knotted and I can’t part it correctly. And I still find that the waves come anyway 🤷🏼‍♀️ though now that we’re on quarantine and I have nowhere to go, maybe I’ll see what happens if I just leave it and don’t brush it... I think it would be knotty and messy though.

Relax, don't demand from your hair to be perfect and when you're not out, try to do some french braids to avoid frizz and to stay confy. Sending you love, you are very nice and don't worry about them too much, they are cute !

Ahh thank you for this video. It's refreshing to see someone with a similar curl pattern trying to work out how to best work their hair! I don't think I ever will follow the CGM since 1) it looks wayyy too 'moisturised' on the hair to do in a tropical country and 2) it also looks like it weighs down the hair too much for our curl pattern. But it's awesome to see that it is working out for you and that your hair is looking shinier! Hopefully you'll keep getting good results - but also I reckon you'll need to clarify your hair every so often to remove the product buildup.

Hey! I’ve been doing the CGM for over a year and I definitely recommend putting all your styling products in your hair IN the shower while your hair is still dripping wet, brush those styling products through for distribution, THEN scrunching with your microfiber towel! It helps the curls/waves clump together more and stay smooth and shaped well. Styling products usually don’t perform as well when put on damp waves or curls compared to wet, I’ve noticed over the years.

my hair is exactly the same as yours so im so glad i found your channel! i appreciate your honesty and showing that everyday can be drastically different! its so hard to find ppl with wavy hair, everyone is curly or says there wavy but compared to my 2bish hair theyre curly and nothing really works for me the same as if would theres! cant wait to see how you’re hair looks as you keep going with this! i found my waves bounced up a bit when i layered my hair more so maybe consider that? ive been on the curly hair journey since july last year now and ive definitely noticed a Big difference but theres days it can go basically straight the day after wash day so dont get discouraged, just part of the process! good luck!!

I recomend hover drying your hair (or something like i forgot how its called )its basically where you lay your diffuser on a table or chair so it blows your way and you gently hold your hair with a tshirt or towl (slowly going up and down like you where going to scrunch it but without scrunching so it doesnt give you frizz) and it just makes my hair look more curly , i recomend looking up videos to see how to properly do it ♥️ btw your hair looked beautifull♥️

I feel your pain. I have wavy hair as well and just started the curly girl method. I am still in the experimenting phase...trying different products to see what works the best. I thought this was the best time to do this as well. I live in Texas and we were sheltering in place so I thought, why not! Keep posting, I am glad someone else is at a similar point as I am. Thanks a bunch!

Hello girl! I'm so glad I came across this video. For a while now my hair made me sad :( After I decided to grow out of the pixie I used to have, I've been unable to get back the curls I had before. I felt like my shapeless hair didn't really represent me, I've never been so insecure about a part of my body as I've been about my hair. I've just leant that hair can be classified and I have just started a routine for my 2b curls, and seeing you being happy about hair you used to hate gives me so much hope 😊thank youuuu

Love this video isabela!❤ I started the method three months ago and I can tell you it gets better with time, the first month is always frustrating. I find that is better for me to comb and scrunch my hair normally first and just then doing it upside down, that way your roots dont get weird. Also putting a tiny little bit of cream on the roots to prevent frizz. You can try making FLAXSEED GEL, its very easy to make, 10 minutes and its done, its natural and very light so i think it will go well with your hair type. Good luck!

Heres something that works for me while my hair is wet: Section ur hair into 2 sections Then twist each of the sections And after that put them into a low bun each!! And when its dry completely u can remove the buns and u will have nice curls Btw my hair is tall and it still works And one more thing, its hard for ur hair to dry while its in the buns so if u remove ur buns while its a bit wet its fine u’ll still have nice curls

A thing about curly hair: because we use so many products, you also need to clarify more often. I clarify every 3 washes, sometimes 4 if I'm feeling lucky. So maybe try clarifying more often!!

I'm so inspired to try this method now, you are the first person I've ever seen with the exact same hair colour and texture as mine. I always get fed up and tie it up in a ponytail so I don't have to deal with it, but now I think I might try this and see if I can get the curls/waves back. If you get those really dry ends like your before photo I've found that putting some argan oil in my hands then either combing my fingers through when my hair is wet or putting it on my hands when I scrunch the ends is the best way to make my hair hold the hydration and not turn to straw.

I learned recently that MY hair acts differently depending on the weather (not saying this is the case for everyone). On rainy or really humid days I use products with heaps of humectants in like aloe vera, marshmallow root extract, or glycerin. On days when it is sunny and dry or quite windy (or when I have the heater on) I stay away from humectants because it sucks the moisture from my hair and makes it dry, knotty, and brittle. I also make sure to seal my hair with a nice oil on those days once it has fully dried. I usually use castor oil (cold-pressed) or sometimes argan oil. My hair doesn't like coconut oil because the protein makes it too stiff (she's a delicate flower lol).

I know you’re using a specific shampoo that you’ve gotten into a routine of using but, clarifying shampoo or a clarifying method can help clear up a lot of the build up you’re feeling and it can be used a couple times a week 💕 but be careful not to over do it as it can dry out your hair 🙁

I’m glad you are making these hair videos as I am trying to figure out my hair atm which is half curly half straight and I haven’t found the right method of handling it when washing and later on drying - it looks different every time and most times I need to sleep with braids otherwise it looks awful as it curls a lot in the front and a section in the back. I think everyone needs to figure out what works for them and if something works for you just go with it:)

Omg girr!!!! I love you! I have been considering trying the curly girl method. I’m pretty sure our hair is almost exactly the same. Not exactly very curly. I’ve always known I had waves underneath but I’ve just never known exactly how to get it where I’d like it to be. I’ve been researching because I definitely would love for my natural curls to come out. Thanks for sharing your journey with us!!!

When I was younger (4-12 years old) I used to do a middle part in my hair and constantly comb it and it always turned out frizzy and bumpy and looked weird. I am now 15 and I found out that I have naturally curly hair at around 13 years old. It happened by one day I let my hair air dry after coming out of the shower and I had the best curls EVERR. I am now using a microfiber towel which I just got one maybe a month ago and it really helped to not frizz my hair. I do comb my hair after I shower, but immediately while my hair is still dripping wet. Then I take the microfiber towel and scrunch it afterwards. Obviously every persons hair is different, but I don't use any product in my hair unless I'm going to see anybody or a nicer event. That will help your curls even more if you use product I just found it makes my hair really really oily and don't always use it. I also tried a side part a couple years ago which also helped my hair. I don't ever really comb it in a side part thought I just kinda let it fall there after it dries. I would recommend flipping your head around while the hair is still wet to get it loose and even more curly. I don't know if this will help you or not, but I do have instagram if you want to DM me if you have any questions. Or I can send pictures of my hair if that will help.
