The reason tanjiros sword is black is because its said people with black swords cant decide a breathing style. Its also an extremely early reference to Yoriichi as his sword actually a black nichirin sword but when using it it would combine with his breathing and turn it red. This was the earliest reference we could get to tanjiro more or less being the next yoriichi by using sun breathing and having the same sword color and sword now as yoriichi

Not like his Father. His father wasn't a Slayer, he just did a dance thats been passed down his family known as the Hinokami Kagura, which gets traced all the way back to Yoriichi teaching the movements of his sword style to Tanjiros ancestor, which over time devolved as certain movements were forgotten or altered. Tanjiro learns it from his dad, realises it can be used as a breathing style, and only realises he wasn't using its full potential until he sees a vision of Actual Sun Breathing in Action performed by Yoriichi himself, and so he used Hinokami Kagura, re-adding the forgotten movements and alterations to use Sun Breathing.
