Hi! As someone who is pursuing a career in educational psychology (and is also autistic and loves learning/sharing new information) Learning styles are actually a total myth! Turns out it has more to do with how the specific materials are being taught more than a style

Hi, this is interesting to know, can you elaborate more? I always thought that I was a kinaesthetic learner, and have difficulty comprehending things if they're just being told to me, but as soon as I do it myself I understand. For example, being told instructions in board games and being confused but then having my turn and understanding what they mean better. Or memorising multi-step cooking recipes when I actually cook them myself, as opposed to having to read the instructions carefully and multiple times.

Hi! Of course! There’s a lack of supporting evidence in favor of learning styles and it’s been found that trying to teach a student based on their assumed style can actually be detrimental. It doesn’t allow them to practice taking in/learning information in new ways, specifically in a way that they might struggle with. For example, an audio learner may struggle with spelling because they are not reading the material presented. People absolutely have their preferences (I tend to be more visual and prefer diagrams and written notes to follow along with during lectures) but my ability to recall information audibly is still important and needs to be considered. As for following directions, board games and recipes, it’s incredibly common for people to grasp material (especially step by step) through practice and repetition. Think about mathematics and practicing multiple equations using the same formula. The actual subject matter also causes different styles to be the most effective. History/English/Art tends to be more visual/audio where as mathematics and science benefit more from a hands on approach. It’s kind of a touchy subject between neuroscientists and educators because it’s so ingrained in curriculum that it would be difficult to phase out completely. There’s lots of information out there about it’s debunking as well! Hope this helps

as a student i actually agree w this. the easiest time i had in school was when i had a teacher who incorporated all three learning styles, so there would be an audible component to the lesson, then visual, and then kinesthetic, usually her explaining it then showing us a video on it and then having us do some worksheets (or play a game about it!). it was civics and careers and i learned a lot about how my government worked and genuinely developed a passion for the course (esp. since i already had an interest in law, though ironically i had a hard time in law class despite being a "kinesthetic learner" because it was almost all just homework/projects).
