I would have done the same some years ago! Here in Italy our recipes uses grams or liters, sometimes there is like "a tablespoon of this or that" but it's a way to say you need it but at your taste. Or you can find "a handful", still an approximate measure that is commonly used. So if you read "cups" and you never watch American recipes, you would assume that every cups is OK, it just need that proportion xD

Cups also used to confuse me but it’s actually an American measurement system and the „cups“ are all the same size you can buy them anywhere. 1 cup for example is like 120gr of flour. You can find the cups online or how to get cups in other measurements 😊

Cups are to be converted into litres, as it’s a volume. You can’t convert it to grams, as different densities give different results. 1 cup is roughly 2.4 dl.

Yes, cups and tablespoons and teaspoons are standardized American units of measurement - although I admit, I assumed it was standardized units of measurement for cooking and baking no matter where you are. FYI for frosting, if the texture is too liquidy, just keep adding powdered sugar until it’s the consistency you want. 😘

I hate to tell you put you Americans have your completely own measurements. Tablespoon and teaspoon is a form of measurement used elsewhere as well but cups are mainly used in the States. Kinda like Fahreinheit and the imperial system. Elsewhere in the world we use Celsius and the metric system (mostly). Altho this is very easy to google, yet Americans always just assume their way is the right way....

To be fair even though America does have unique measurement amounts it's not like we just take any cup and use it as a measuring cup ( or at leasy we shouldn't) A cup measurement is specifically 8 oz or around 237 ml, but sadly even some Americans are more than happy to just take any standard drinking cup to use as a cup measurement and are confused as to why their recipes are too wet or dry.

I’m pretty sure the reason the cupcakes turned out so well was the vanilla extra swapped for pickle juice. The subtle flavour in the cupcake matches the frosting & pickles!

Just some friendly tips 😊 If you’re baking cupcakes, generally you want to fill the cups 3/4 of the way up If your frosting is too liquidy (based on the recipe) generally you should add some powder sugar. It thickens it If your frosting is too thick you can always add a bit of milk to liquify it a bit Also it doesn’t matter how things look :) if you had fun baking and you like what you made (taste wise) then it’s perfect!! Great vid Deni i loved every second of it

Deni!! You need special cups for the measurements you can buy them at the supermarket in the kitchen ware section and for the spoon measurements they would usually say tbsp or tsp, tbsp means table spoon which is the spoon we eat with aka big metal spoon and tsp is teaspoon which is the small spoon used to mix tea/coffee.

For somebody who is just learning how to cook slash bake which by the way baking is harder, it is full on chemistry, which is why recipes can fail so easy. I think you are doing amazing! The American measurements system really sucks for backing because of that... a lot of more serious bakers that focus on consistency weigh their ingredients in weather or not you measure in metric is up to you... I personally like metric

Some food just taste better after they have had time to rest. It doesn’t mean it’s necessarily stale. Example: if you make batenburg cake or traditional fruit cake, after jamming and icing they NEED to sit first. Actually, you can feed fruit cake with brandy for literally months. Also when always doing frosting, add liquid in DROP by DROP, especially cream cheese. Also, creaming butter is key to that fluffy texture (do NOT melt butter). You can add icing sugar to fix, but you risk it turning too sweet. Hope this helps! Keep baking 😊
