17:48 - MagnusBrain: "Ah, perfect heel hook- wait I'm ice climbing nevermind" I love seeing you try the route. It shows that it doesn't matter how strong and generally trained you are; focused practise at that exact thing is very important. Most of us wouldn't make it anywhere at all, and even Magnus - a good climber - struggled with it. Meanwhile Petra made it look easy, as if she's climbing a ladder.

One if the things I've always found inspirational about you, Magnus, is how you get so intruiged and generally interested you seem to be of other sports and how you always try them 100%! Just keep doing what you're doing! I would personally love to see a collaboration between you and the current female world olympic champion in climbing, Janja Garnbret! Having only climbed myself for half a year, and still have a lot to learn, I feel like the two of you have kinda similiar styles. Like strong and dynamic, and how you both seem to move with 100% confidence on the wall. What's the mentality like when making dynamic moves without hesitation? What's going through your mind? How do you train to get there? And how come she's been so damn dominant in the climbing scene? Anyone else feel like this would be an amazing collab?

wow I was wondering what happened to Petra. Great to see that she excels in yet another climbing branch. That is why climbing is one of the best if not THE best sport out there - it just cannot get boring as there's so much to choose from. Do not fancy bouldering, follow Sharma and Ondra on epic long sport climbs, not scary enough? try solo; too scary? deep water solo? adventure? new routes? alpine, ice, too adventurous? back to gym. The opportunities are enough for a one life time.

I just love that energy you often get when pro athletes talk to each other. There's such a lack of ego, I feel like; I mean I could be wrong but in a way it would make sense, because once you've actually competed you know your limits... you know that anxiety and even failure are part of the deal of being only human and if you've kept with it you've done so for the love of the game. Okay, that is a little lofty. :D You know what I mean though. Love to Norway or wherever you are right now!

After your last vid, I went to check out ice climbing. It was such a different world to see. It was amazing - thank you for brining this to my attention! I'd love to see a real use for all those figure fours you see in ice climbing. Is that something that's been phased out or can you still use it on trad/boulders?
@michaelmccluskey20442 жыл бұрын
It's rarely useful in rock climbing, but it can occasionally be. If you can't lock off one armed, then it can be good for very long reaches where you start on a good hold for your hands, but have no footholds that could be useful for a dynamic move. If you're strong and can lock off one armed, then it's usually more efficient to just campus. That said, figure 4 is still sometimes easier, especially if the wall is fairly overhung and the hold you are going for is something that requires precision, like a small pocket or a jam. As a side note, the reason that figure 4 is so useful in mixed/ice climbing, is that you often have to place your axe with a lot of precision, making it risky to do long fast dynamic moves where you push with your legs (like you would often do for long moves in rock climbing).
@mortenrl19462 жыл бұрын
I think another part of the reason the figure 4 is so useful here, is that the climber has a full hammer grip on the handle of the pick.
