Are you doing the whole neighborhood because they all look the same as your yard?

😂 I promise you that’s not the case. Every lawn besides Mr Kevin across the street has nothing but weeds in it. Most dont mow but twice a month bc they have to.

Your lawn looks great but your neighbor to the right looks pretty good too. My guess is the appearance has more to do with rain and N from thunderstorms. Fertilizing through summer at lower N amounts is suggested by University research but be careful applying such large amounts of K. Studies show unless the soil is deficient, it makes no difference to plant health/stress resistance, and K in fertilizers is a salt. So applying too much will increase the osmotic potential in the soil surrounding plant roots and in extreme situations cause wilt as water moves out of the plant into the soil based on the osmotic differential. Might conduct a soil test to see if you are K deficient, if not then apply something else that has slow release N and much less K in the summer.

Lawn looks great. I switched to a 15-0-15 plus biostims. It’s labeled for centipede but my St. Aug loves it. My shade blend looks much worse than yours. I don’t think it it handles the heat well.

I agree with you this is the first year ive fertilized my yard during summer. I used milorganite, 1-0-1 and 0-0-25 every 30 days. I ran out of 1-0-1 and 0-0-25 so i ordered yard mastery stress blend so its going down this weekend along with my fungicide. This is the best my yard has ever looked in the summer i cant wait for fall to push more nitrogen. Keep up the good work

Its been raining a lot here in NJ. So much that I dont have time to mow. I also had a big branch fall off my front yard tree and its an eye sore. I started chopping at it yesterday. I have put down Milo and of course, my fungicides so my grass still looks great just needs a mow. I think im going to fertilize again since its been over a month. I have some leftover Stress blend so I will be using that and buying a bag of the Sta green slow release that is popular right now for my backyard. Im surprised you dont use fertilizer in the summer. Slow release, Micro green, and water seems to work!!!!
@MrFergusonLawn

I do, just spoon feeding a little liquid pert in the past. The slow release granular, I've sorta played with, but never really put it out in dead heat of summer. Thanks for the update brother, hope it dries out a little up there!

Fert definitely makes a difference, but enough water is more important than anything else by miles. I've used Protene in the summer and the lawn will look awful if there isn't enough water. Conversely, if there's enough water, it lokks great with almost any fert. I like Protene, but it's not the only option and isn't cheap either
@MrFergusonLawn
@MrFergusonLawn Жыл бұрын
Oh I agree, however Protene lasts longer than other ferts. You get 90 days of release unlike others for just a few bucks cheaper. For that alone I find it worth the price.
@vengeance7x6661
@vengeance7x6661 Жыл бұрын
@@MrFergusonLawn that's fair. I'd prefer to fertilize more often in smaller doses, but I do think it's a great option. I'm not sure how effective it is near the end of 90 days however. I just wanted to mention that H2O is by far more important and can make a lawn look good even with a sub par fertilizer

I’m still in the testing phase of my lawn care journey. No fungicide or fert this summer on my cool season backyard. I was planning on using this fertilizer as well, but I’ve been more focused on my zoysia in the front doing heavy nitrogen on that. Only using RGS on the back and mowing tall until fall. So far very little fungus and the color is still dark from my propeat and freedom apps earlier in the year. I also feel that biochar has helped my soil retain nutrients for the summer. We’ve had tons of rain so that also has helped a lot. I just really want to see how my back yard handles no fungicide/fert. Zoysia is just on cruise control, never seen a spec of fungus and so thick. No fungicide on that either
@MrFergusonLawn
@MrFergusonLawn Жыл бұрын
Awesome man. Glad that is working for you. As you probably seen, I did some Humichar in the past few months, and I was warned by another youtuber to just be careful, as it can retain a lot of moisture and swamp out your lawn. However, I'd LOVE to not deal with fungicides, as I described coming into lawn care. However it hit me hard and scared me. Especially with all the money and work I put in. Great to hear yours is going well! I hope I too can get to where I don't need it.

@@MrFergusonLawn dont get me wrong, i think my lawn would be much better with funcides than without, but I want to see what happens like you did to determine if it’s really needed or if I just get minimal fungus that resolves itself in the fall. I did see that vid about the humichar and your follow up comment which was interesting. I only did one humichar app so far, maybe I’ll leave it at that

Triple Threat is good. It's not a bad seed at all and I may go with it again, but I just love the GCI more. That's what I've grown to adore. It's got everything you need from a seed. That's just my opinion though.

What chemicals can’t you not put down at the same time? Can I put down fert. and fungus treatment back to back or can put down fert. Fungus and weed killer cause my grass getting a beating with the weeds.
@MrFergusonLawn
@MrFergusonLawn Жыл бұрын
It’s your lawn, so do what you want to do. Yea, you can spray for weeds which I recommend. I would be cautious with the fert if you are newer to lawn care, but yes it can all be put down back to back.

When did you put down the protene? In June to make it through June July august, or a little before that for some “ramp up” time to let it get into the lawn?
@MrFergusonLawn

I put it down in June, and it should last til August. Just to add some color, feed it some, and thank God it's not caused a lot of top growth.
