How do you know how many pounds of urea per 1000 sqft to use?
@MrFergusonLawnКүн бұрын
There are fert calculators online. Depends how much nitrogen you want per thousand. These calculators allow you to put in the fert you are using, size of your lawn, and desired N per 1k sq ft, and it will tell you what total amount of that fert should be.

I overseeded late summer/early fall and a lot of the seed did come up. Therefore, I don't plan to put down pre-emergent for 2025 spring. I do have just a couple small empty areas that I want to test putting seed down with the first snow fall to see what happens with that. I live in the MVD area, my lawn did thicken up from the reseeding and even though it is winter, the color right now is great (dark green). I didn't see a lot of weeds during the end of summer. But last spring I had a problem with Poa. Being a senior on limited income I cannot afford that new product a bit too expensive for me and I don't have anyone to share the cost with. Because I have tall fescue grass, I find myself following mostly your videos. I still look at a few others like LCN, Elevated Lawns and Pete, GCI. I did use the YM app which keeps me on target for applying products. A lot of folks on KZbin are moving away from Tall Fescue grass but I found it to be really good for my area. I have really learned a lot from watching youtube videos and want to thank you all for sharing so much. Merry Christmas to all of you and your families -- have a safe Holiday and a Happy New Year!!!

Out of curiosity, do you know if green effect can/should/should not be used in winter time to try to get a green color back in the lawn?
@MrFergusonLawn5 күн бұрын
I think it works just fine Mike. It's pretty much urea in liquid form already, with a little iron mix in. So it would be fine to spray now. As we get colder though, may not uptake it well, but depending on your temps, should see a color change with it.

I had seen a recent video from How to with Doc he had said if you seeded grass in the fall to skip the pre emergent the following spring and to use a post emergent for any weeds that emerge. He was saying due to the root pruning effects of pre emergent. It does make sense I guess it depends on at what level the roots of the new grass is compared to the barrier level of the pre emergent.

It's so much more comfortable spraying the lawn when it's cooler outside. Those summer months are nasty when I have to wear pants/long sleeves/gloves/boots and walk around in 90+ degree weather with high humidity. As for granular vs liquid I'd say both are great. I have noticed that granular lasts longer due to slow release. Great vid, btw!

I agree the area is something I wouldn’t be concerned with. I had a previous lawn project where I had about 3k sq feet around an oak tree that was very hard compacted clay soil with mostly weeds with a small amount of grass. I was going to rent a mini tiller but my wife suggested buying you knowing I wouldn’t be the only time I would need one. If you have a future project that you need to dig up part of your lawn you can make a frame out of 2x4s that is large enough to put over a wheeled cart and using 1/2 or 1/4” hardware cloth this will act as a filter to reuse the soil you are digging up

Except for a lawn mower I have a stable of EGO lawn tools which I have been happy with. I had (3) 2.5 amp hour batteries that stopped taking a charge this happened all within 8 months of each other they were all over 3 years old. A new 2.5 amp hour battery would have been $200, EGO had the more powerful leaf blower that came with a 5.0 battery and new charger for $300 it was a good time to upgrade. They had the backpack blower for $600 but didn’t want to spend that much on a leaf blower. After I got the leaf blower home the small box that has the battery actually had a brick in it there was a definite WTF moment, Lowe’s was understanding about it and exchanged it
