What's the hardest part of being an indie developer?
@studioprimitive2 ай бұрын
For me, it’s finding a game hook that resonates with people. If you can do that well, that is a big part of indie dev success.

I want to express my thoughts without offending anyone, but I have to be honest: your game comes across as a rather typical mobile game. It could use some unique graphical elements to make it more engaging! Otherwise it looks like a BORING GAME.

?? bruh it looks so good what are you talking about

@@TheArchCoder Clarification requested: when you state 'it looks good,' what criteria are you using? If you are from the United States, your response aligns with a common perspective. However, I must remind you: offering feedback that prioritizes kindness over accuracy can be counterproductive. Avoiding objective truths may inhibit progress. Additionally, I inquire: is mobile gaming your preferred genre? If yes, your Opinion on the Looks of the Game are plausible.

Yeah, just what I thought, and the portrait aspect ratio of these videos doesn't help at all, it looks like one of these mobile cash grab game ads

Very helpful. The social media part in particular was good to hear. Although I'm in the early stages, I've been trying to post to several platforms, but it just doesn't work well with the way I'm making my videos. It _could_ work, but it would take forever to try and optimize a video for each platform, short form or not. I've been questioning whether I should even bother with most platforms, and focusing on only 1 or 2 is exactly what I needed to hear. Thanks!

This is by no means in the vein of being an asshole, but I would argue a huge factor in all of this is that the game itself looks underwhelming to say the say the least, specially considering the competition.

FYI, your face cam has wrong colors. It looks almost as a linear color profile. Basically, any and all footage/photos range from black to white and your doesn't. Your blackest black is like 80% gray (not black) and whitest white is like 20% gray (not white). IDK what you do and where, so I cannot suggest a fix, but the problem is really clear to see in any tool that will show you a histogram (even from a screenshot). PS: This is something that is very rarely, if ever a good stylistic choice, so, if it's intentional, I'd rethink that 😅

The cheat to that principle is by making your video relevant to an existing community and a currently ongoing discussion that nobody's made a video on yet. Dream did the same thing by making his first video about PewDiePie's Minecraft Let's Play before pivoting to focus on his own Minecraft content. To apply this concept to indie games, Toby Fox first gained notoriety by making an Earthbound romhack that was able to capture the same charm as Earthbound, which made some people interested when much later they found he was making his own game with a similar style, Undertale. It's easy to make a name for yourself by starting in an already existing similar community and then pivoting to your own thing when enough people follow you from that other community. It's the fastest way to get a substantial following aside from sheer luck.

Why did you fail? Because you're treating your audience more like wallets to milk rather than potential customers to be satisfied with a GOOD game! Do it crappy enough and people will feel disrespected.
