Also if you planted them together you'd risk one species killing the other, they would see each other as competition and each would try to steal away the nutrients and try to hide the other in its shadow. So even in a small home garden you wouldn't want to plant different plants too close together, but since harvesting would be done by hand there it doesn't matter on that front.

I've actually been to a Kappn island that was raining and got a complete gyroid plus the gyroid fragment that you get on every island. But yeah, I haven't seen a island that has more gyroid than that.

Not a farmer, but there are certain crops that should be grown together. Corn, beans, and pumpkins/squash, are called the "Three Sisters" crops, and they should be grown together because corn provides tall stalks for the beans to climb, beans provide nitrogen to the soil, and pumpkins/squash have big broad leaves that shade the ground to soil moisture and prevent weeds.

In fields farmers will Separate the crops if they are different species/types so the crops don’t fight for resources and so crops that are the same types can help each other like if one plant is getting eaten by bugs, it will send out spores(message) to the other plants so they set up defenses. But that won’t work if they are surrounded by different types of plants
