My high school (In the US, Ohio to be specific) was designed and built in the 1980’s, and was very modern for the time. A lot of glass and open air (and it’s an eighth of a mile - or 660 feet/201 meters long) - which would be great if it wasn’t in an area where tornadoes are common. In order to get to the tornado shelters we had to walk through a hallway that was nicknamed “The Fishbowl” because it was entirely glass on both sides with one side on the exterior of the building. During a tornado if the glass broke it would have turned into “The Blender”.

hi i live in america and wanted to give u insight on high schools lol if you ever read this comment. security at schools is definitely becoming a more popular thing, i didn’t ever in elementary school but they started doing it for me in middle school and become strict to them randomly searching a different third of kids every morning based on how we get to school. every school in my county has morning searches that delays your arrival to class and sometimes makes us tardy for teachers from standing in line. anyways, cafeteria lunches are a thing you normally just have a student number that you type in and it’s like a dollar or two for your meal that day. two story schools are also becoming more popular my middle school was a brand new built school that had two stories and was huge. now i go to high school and right now there is currently a population of 3,000 kids. love you deli hope this helped clear up some of the questions and wonders you had

I feel like this school is small enough that clubs have to meet in the normal schooltime classrooms or activity room after they've cleared out (with scheduling conflicts from time to time that has students and/or teachers fighting over a given space), and then there's a separate lot for the gymnasium/auditorium combo building. And the principal is the only on-site administrator as well as their own secretary, doing a lot of the stuff needed to keep the school running themselves and delegating some rolls the teachers or the small student counsel during club hours and in between class periods.

It's so cool to see what schools are like elsewhere! I live in the states, and to me its weird that the thought of being able to get lunch at school would be luxurious. I feel like when I was in school everyone who had money was able to bring their own food. They had assisted lunch programs for lower income families to be able to get lunch at school. Basically you'd go through the line and get given a very basic and bland lunch, and there would be extras you could pick up that cost more. And you didn't pay right there, it basically goes on your "account" and your parents paid the difference at the end of the year. I remember not eating at all and just skipping to go to the library because I didn't have a lunch account and definitely didn't have packable lunches to bring. But it's been awhile since I've been in high-school so it might be different now

In the UK state run schools, often called Comprehensives, would have one large hall near the center of the school where morning Assembly was held, it would then convert into a dining hall/cafeteria for lunch and in many schools also doubled as the main sportshall/indoor PE area. School lunch used to be provided 'free' to the children, with the parents paying a set fee for the term, but then it moved to the kids having to pay individually for each meal type/piece of food. Some schools operated a voucher sytem for low incomes on the free school meals programme, others used id/swipe card systems. One school I worked in the vouchers were common currency amongst the students, the kids that got them would sell them for cash so they could by sweets/junk food on the way home. At all times kids have been able to bring packed lunches from home, and would always have a designated area to sit and eat them. This is all from about 10 years ago, I've not worked in a school since 2009.

For me it was, elementary school you would bring a lunch (nothing fancy unless you were rich), and eat in the classroom after outside recess, and for high school, you would bring a lunch OR go buy one at a shop near the school and there was an open area in the school where they put out foldable tables and kids would eat there, outside, or somewhere in the hallway. Security before walking into schools is definitely a thing in the states. Of course, it's more or less prevalent, depending on how the surrounding neighborhood and district is. As for cafeterias, they tend to have their own buildings or are built closer to the exterior of the building, because it makes transporting foods and disposing of food waster easier. This is like how gyms tend to be near the exterior or have their own buildings. :)

I have never seen security at a Canadian high school before. I, too, have only seen it on television and movies from the States. We do commonly have indoor plants in our schools, though. Two of the public elementary schools that I went to actually had courtyards and conservatories that were full of plants. The conservatory was quite large, actually. Regarding cafeterias, in my experience in Canada there are definitely cafeterias in high schools here, but they are different from what I have seen from Hollywood. Here, the cafeterias that I have been in have just basically been large rooms with tables and seating for students to sit and eat at. There are no food lines like there are in American film, but there are often small restaurants (or one restaurant), like a mall food court, that are contracted to offer food, but many students bring their own lunches.

My high school was 150 years old! It had modern areas added on over time - so the main building was 4 stories, and then a huge sprawling add on was 2 stories. I’m from US and we absolutely had security, both a metal detector and a front door person checking each person coming in the doors as well as an ID lanyard that you use to scan into doorways. I graduated in 2009 so idk what it’s like now. I don’t remember any plants in the general areas of the building but in teachers classrooms they can decorate (within reason) however they liked!

Yes deli it strange to walk into a school straight into a cafeteria…..usually u walk into a hall that has the front office and the principal office lol

I thought I was the only one asked to leave class for an uncontrollable laughing fit! I was one of those kids who was never in trouble, so the teacher knew I wasn’t being difficult on purpose, so they just had me go stand in the hallway to get ahold of myself. I don’t even know what was so funny!

I'm Canadian and our high schools are similar to American ones, though I don't know anyone who has ever had to walk through security. I'm so excited to see people from other countries build schools that represent their own experiences, it's so cool seeing the differences and getting to learn about other cultures!

My Highschool had a second story corridor/hallway with windows overlooking the cafeteria on the first floor. Also yes, there was a kid who mooned the school this way. Deli is spot on.

It's so interesting to see how different schools are everywhere! The school I went to was build in 1880 so.. it's very different from every other school in my country lol! It's a huge 3 story building, I could never recreate it in the sims. I really liked your build, seems like it could be a really fancy private school (at least where i live!) haha cant wait to download it!

My high school was built in 1959 in the Modernist style. The outside of the one you made reminds me of it, although it was a lot smaller than my school. My school was huge as it was the second largest in my state. And we also had "portables" which were extra classrooms put into the outside area after the school was finished. They were meant to be temporary but they were still there even a couple of decades after I graduated.

My friend’s husband is an architect who has worked on schools and he was telling some of the unique challenges, such as making sure the bathroom sinks are designed specifically in ways that prevent students from deliberately flooding the rooms 🤣

I went to a private school in Ireland, which the original building was built in 1886. We had a new build extension with extra classrooms, science labs, music room, library and art studio. It was nice having a mix of modern and the original one ❤️ we also had a 'dining hall ' which is like a cafeteria, but half of us brought out own lunch.

At my school we didn't have to go through security but we had police in the school at all times. The front entrance was around our locker area and the back entrance was by the cafeteria! I loved this school! You did an amazing job Deli!

The walking through security is in american schools. I never had to do it in high school, but I remember my sisters having to because it was right after Columbine, and they became really cautious about it. They also went to a different High School than I did in a different area of the city I lived in. When I was going to school we only had one time where security checked us, and it was because there was someone actively making threats to our high school. Nothing ever happened thankfully, but yeah. Also the cafitera in my school was pretty much as you walked in, I would walk past one of the many staircases we had, and it was through the doors to the left, and near the school library. I've seen newer schools though that has the cafeteria area in a more open space.

Deli this build is AMAZING!! You've always made one of the best builds around, but this was seriously impressive!! Just an idea! When the pack comes out, can you renovate this build again and make the build slightly bigger so you could add club-exclusive gaming rooms and chess club rooms for the various clubs? And also for everyone's access: music room where people can practice instruments, form their bands and jam out, art/handcraft room, gym for all to access and of course for the football and cheer club, then lastly, maybe a lounge for students to hang out with card games and stuff? My old school used to have those kind of rooms with tvs as well!! I think this will really add to the gameplay ~ these are all the rooms my school used to have, and even more!

This reminds me so much of my high school. It was an art deco mansion built in the 30s and then it got renovated in like the 70s and it has all of those bright colors and fun shapes and it’s wonderful.

I went to a public high school in Australia, the only year I had lockers outside was year 10 and it was so far away from all my classes 😩 we also had a double story building in year 11 and 12 for the seniors. Year 9 there was massive stairs up to the building and of course all the boys would be messing around on it (it gave me broke gossip girl vibes sitting on those steps) 😂

The shadows/lighting in this world are something else! When I was in high school (early 2000s in the US), we didn’t have security. I taught high school English for 2 years (2017-2018), and there were security guards, but no, like, metal detectors or anything. These days…schools over here are, sadly, a bit unpredictable. I can imagine in some places, going to school is like going to the airport.

At my high school (US) our cafeteria was it's own building with tables/eating areas and a stage for talent shows and what not, we also had metal picnic style tables outside that a weird plastic like coating over the metal so it didn't get hot and burn you lol

My high school in Pennsyvania had showers (no stalls) off the gym. You get sweaty in gym class and they require you to shower before boing back to class. There was a monitor that checked off if you showered as it was part of your gym grade. Showers were deffinity needed for the boys after they played baseball as they stank. I was lucky my gym class was usually either last class of the day or I study hall after so showers weren't as monitored.

So happy to see a Deli build 💕💕 love the way you did this one!! My high school technically had four floors (although the fourth floor wasn't that big haha. I know other schools in other towns are way bigger but I still think of mine as being big. Our main staircase right at the entrance was always so scary to walk down because it was always so crowded and it felt like if you weren't careful, you could definitely get very hurt lol. We had staff to check you in at the front office but we didn't have security. Although, I know of others that do and it's sad to have it but also kind of necessary 😮💨

My high school was 3 stories with a basement. Then the skill center was in the back. That was basically its own building, only one floor. 3x a month we had random police check with metal detectors. I love your builds and your voice🥰

We didn't have security per say at my school, but we had lots of locks. The front door was unlocked at the start and end of the day, but otherwise you had to be buzzed in by the office through a security camera outside. After being buzzed in you enter an entry way that had two lowered metal bar gates (literally a jail lmao) that stopped people from entering the halls. You would have to go through the main office. The office door inside had a magnetic lock that the front desk would release to let you into the office, then they would have to do that again at a second door to let you into the hallways. There is also a cop that patrols the hallways and is based in the school.

Deligracy I think you got it right adding showers 🚿 especially after cheerleading, playing basketball 🏀/⚽️ or just running late in the A M. Classrooms a bit closer IMO. Then have computer labs, art, library upstairs? A 1 story school became the norm in the 80's + here in the states and many were called the campus. Most of the newer builds are to big for many Simmers and they're opting for gyms, break rooms and places to gather to practice skills or homework. Think a greenhouse would be appropriate as farming 🚜 is a choice too. I'm not trying to tell you how to build of course, just giving ideas on schools in the US. Love ya and your builds. ❤

Idk if anyone answered yet but as far as cafeterias, every school I've attended and most of my kids schools, the cafeteria is in the gym which also happens to be the auditorium. One had those folding walls down the middle to separate the gym and cafeteria but allow for expansion. The tables were benches that folded and rolled for easy set up/takedown between class times

This is more like Canadian schools... Still a bit fancy, but way more believable. Love the learning centre in the top you did. Here our cafeterias are just an eating place (you don't really get food there, just bring it). Some schools have some food to buy, but it'd just be packaged snacks. The school I teach at has one in the basement. Most others I've been in are somewhat close to the front of the school, but definitely in a new room. (the school I went to in grade 12 had a cafeteria that doubled as an "auditorium", since it had a stage in it... You just had to set up stairs and stuff for assemblies). What's interesting is that the school politics in Australia and Canada are also very similar to each other! Love the build. :)

My high school in a pretty rural area in UK, England had so many different building that were connected but you'd always walk outside to get to them because it was quicker and some weren't connected. We don't really have one big building here. Also, soooo many stairs

Love this building! It looks so much more realistic for me as a European as well… in most schools here, there’s no cafetaria either. We bring our own food from home. Lots of schools are in old historic buildings (like the one I used to go to), but we also have a lot of modernised school buildings especially when you go outside the bigger cities.

The cafeteria in my high school was pretty near the main entrance, and had high ceilings with sky lights like that, so it seems fine. It was a little off to the side, and had a step-down area with half-walls surrounding it to kind of segment it off as its own space (bougie high school), but it was still fairly near the entrance.

Been teaching HS for a very long time. There are many potential layouts but here's the general: 1) Main offices are near the front entrance for security as they control who gets in and easy access for parents though assistant principals may be nearer to classrooms in case help is needed. 2) Cafeterias are centrally located so no one has to go far and often double as meeting areas for activities or to hang out during breaks... TVs are often on the walls there to show school news and other things. 3) Showers are near the gym for obvious reasons often with locker rooms for changing like at spas. 4) Some gyms have a stage for drama or graduation if the school doesn't have an auditorium. A few even have pools for swim teams. 5) While it's iconic... most schools have done away with lockers for security reasons. Kids often just carry a laptop so there's not as books... but lockers have a function in the game so I guess they are needed. We took lockers out of our school over 20 years ago. 6) A lot of high schools have an outdoor courtyard for kids to hang out. We even have one for seniors only as something special for them. 7) And yes by law we have special disabled bathrooms... these are also offered for those that for one reason or another aren't comfortable in the designated gendered bathrooms. Then there are staff bathrooms as you don't want adults in the kids bathrooms. 8) Glad you were thinking about colors. There's a whole study about what colors are uplifting but calming. Some students can't handle overly complicated color patterns... such as those with autism. BUT PLEASE put some aquariums, plants... even small pets in one classroom. It's really great for kids.
