Nice little nod to Orion there. I obsessively tried to get the tone for that song when I was in high school like two decades ago, but I always found a more mid heavy tone with slightly dialled down gain suited my playstyle better. The tone on their early albums worked well because not only were they very percussive but also incredibly precise. Great video! I'd also be really interested if you could replicate the really smooth and rich lead tones Kirk gets on Orion. I've never managed to replicate them. There's a similar effect on the pre-solo on My Friend of Misery. I'd kill to be able to figure it out. Edit: I figured out the My Friend of Misery, it's just harmony in perfect fourths with a flanger. Bomb.

Glenn Fricker's research said the cab was the 4x10 with the GT10-65 from Celestion. Also, you have to consider their tone is going to sound different in isolation compared to what they sound like in the mix. Also, Metallica uses stereo separation and dual/quad tracking, which will modify the sound further. I can attest that my rig sounds much different with the MIMIQ Doubler with just one dub (more dubs just sounds super "phasey") than without. It also helps to cut off the speakers at 10Khz to get rid of the chaotic hiss and buzz that steps on the main frequencies.
