In the 17th century, my ancestors went from Gent, Belgium, to Sweden to work as blacksmiths. They were very proud and haughty (and very, VERY, stubborn), as they they were blacksmiths (they were a little better than the rest LOL). They dressed in a long, striped shirt (like a dress, but hardier), clogs, and a leather apron. They always kicked off their clogs before enterering any house, which was odd at the time. With that kind of ancestors I couold only travel down the same path as they had before me. So I studied music instead of becoming a blacksmith. I'm stubborn too. Same path of being stubborn as hell :-D I hope you're having a wonderful Christmas!

Artistic expression is in the eye of the artist. It's a bowl. And the material is unique. Well executed. It would likely sell for a mint at an art boutique. Something to note. A short limited acid bath would clear the ash and antique the brazing. And a oil mixed with wax would preserve and seal it. I love wrought iron. Amazing stuff Will. Belated Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year! Now on to the hot cut.. dude. Ya gotta give it away.. that is not a Montana hot cut. That's a Texas hot cut. It's too big...🤣😜

Yes, it's a bowl by definition. (Bowl: a concave usually nearly hemispherical vessel : a rounded container that is usually larger than a cup) An idea for your quench tank. Make a metal net (or bowl with holes) and attach a long (the length of your quench tank's depth + extra) wire to it. Leave wire attached bowl in the quench tank with the extra wire sticking out and bent over to the side (to keep it out of the way, right?). Now you can more easily retrieve dropped items. 💡😉 Well done. 😀☕👍

That is beautiful! I'm team basket, woven wrought. Love to see you working with some wrought and using it's quirks and texture in a unique way. There is so much potential with wrought for artistic textures and you nailed it. It really turned out great! Looking at the finished product I was thinking it would look great lit up from inside, maybe candle holder?. The same concept could make an amazing light fixture, go more like a near sphere, hanging from some chain with a vintage style bulb inside.

Its a basket. A very cool and unique basket. Awesome vid as always. Many thanks! Btw, there is another Montana KZbinr who is located in Joliet (not sure how far away from you it is) called Engles Coach Shop, www.youtube.com/@EngelsCoachShop who does work with wagons and whatnot. It often has blacksmithing stuff in it and maybe if you check him out and like what he does we could see a collaboration one day. I enjoy both of your channels and wondered what sort of things the two of you might come up with. Just a thought. Cheers.

Very cool to watch I have a question. As someone taking there baby steps into blacksmithing, could you take an old axe head (or a cheap new one from harbor freight or somewhere) and cut/grind into a hot cut for a hardy hole? I know that is a waste of material for someone more well outfitted. But currently, getting larger hunks of steel and having tools to shape is a limiting factor for me. I have plenty of tools to cut and grind already from other hobbies. If I could shape an axe head to fit the hole on my anvil, is there any functional or safety difference? Type of steel etc? I'm sure it would work, at least to start, but not sure if there is some unknown that would get me after a bit. Similar to when I learned about the danger of bent pieces on edge of anvil or hammer that could break off and be dangerous as could become shrapnel. Before was mentioned, wouldn't have even considered. Hope the question makes sense and someone more knowledgeable can answer. Love seeing your projects and following along!

Will what in the world!? This is not a bowl a bowl will hold things. This is more like a wrought iron basket or as you said a wrought iron bird's nest it's ungainly it probably weighs a ton it has three feet to make it stand up and that's the only reasonable you know I just don't know about this. Maybe if you showed it full of something like pine cones or whatever but apart from creating some kind of liner that goes in it.. now that would be kind of cool if you got another piece of something still 10 brass bronze bronze Brunswick and hammered a bowl out of it and then dropped it inside of your bird nest and you know fixed it in there real good then you got a bowl that can can hold items. But until you do something bowl like with it it's just an ugly basket not much good for anything except maybe pine cones. Maybe scented pine cones for the holiday.

It’s a wrought iron basket, not a bowl (nor a colander lol). I love the torn wrought iron, but personally not really sold on the brazing job, it just kind of looks like fancy chewing gum sticking pieces of bark together lol. I had a totally different image of how you would do this when you first described it, which involved the strips being lined up side by side, radially, with the brazing in between, and then the whole interior ground down and smoothed to a solid, polished finish, with the exterior rough and tree like, with radial lines of brass between the “corrugations” of the bark-like exterior. Sound in this video was great.
