Hi from Butch, himself. You have a lot of talent and dedication. My advice, from a very old painter, is to explore CONTRAST more. The nearest objects have the MOST contrast, while distance is less. This is achieved more with brightness contrast than colour contrast, but try a small little painting... try a landscape or still life and DELIBERATELY make the CLOSEST part MAXIMUM CONTRAST (darkest dark, ligthtest light/white). The blackest black is RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU. This will be HARD to accept, at first, but will bring a huge amount of life to your work. I didn't start painting until I was 30 and still working on it. If the figure had MORE contrast... darker darks, bright whites, it would jump out against the background. It's scary at first... try a little canvas to see wut's I mean. The next thing you should explore is the relationship of different shapes upon the canvas. Draw an imaginary X on the canvas and try, as best you can to make line flow with that X... you can off center the X but the idea is the same. The hardest part of being an artist aside from doing the work is keeping the paint off your clothes. I've ruined a lot of nice clothes because I was too lazy to put on my painting clothes.

Im sure you mean well but I would assume this artist is extremely aware of such a basic thing. Im pretty sure I learned that in high school art class? I feel like in this piece low contrast was very intentional and works well.

i doubt it, i only just learned in my 30's but i have adhd so ive probably "learnt" a few times. but yeah i think everything this guy is doing is perfect as it is. the low contrast adds to the intimacy in the most perfect way.@@FrodoBagginses

Hey. Such beautiful beautiful work. Pensive and thoughtful. I love your use of all the blues and I get that completely. Choice of the pose of the boy is so very beautiful. Stay on your course and on your process and don't let others influence you to jump around. I am 73 and I've earned my living my adult life as an artist for me and two children. It can be done. You do you. ignore the opinions of others. Follow your own voice. All the best to you and I will follow your career. You're an exciting painter.

Dear Lord, some of the comments here.... Don't listen to them! You neither need to heed any artistic advice, nor do you give off an elistist vibe. You do you, friend!

I want to be honest with you to inspire you. This is not nostalgia. If you want to paint nostalgia, do not try to make an image that you think is nostalgia. You must create nostalgia on the canvas itself. The paint is only a tool. Do you see? I hope so.

Dude, calm down. It’s not up to you to decide how an artist sees nostalgia?

You are a very good artist, the trouble is you know it, you give AN ELITIST VIBE, be happy that you have achieved so much, but don't let pride stand in your way, pride will destroy you on the inside. Right at this moment you paint from your heart, your paintings have meaning, but if you let fame go to your head, your art work will become meaningless ,and you will become just another mediocre painter. So my young friend STAY HUMBLE.

I do not feel he gives off an elitist vibe-at all. I am wondering how he could be perceived this way?
