The main bakery for Krispy Kreme South Australia has a light out the front that says "Free Donuts". When the light is on (every day, usually around 6pm) you can get a free plain glazed donut. They scaled it back this year to "free donut with any purchase", but it's apparently affordable enough to give away free donuts every day of the year. The cost of those extra donuts is probably very low, as long as they don't take up shelf space.

Boy does this sound familiar. I owned a kombucha brewery. Hardest part was it was so new to our community we had to educate everyone. There was room for business. We didn't do terrible but after starting the business we added 4 kids. My husband was a mechanical engineer and it was a lot of pressure when we knew he could go back into the workforce. Still miss it. Our customers miss us. It was a very seasonal product. We were making about $1000 in 4 hours at our local farmers markets but we were stretched thin for help and the season would dwindle. Best memories for us though. ❤
@DavieFogarty2 ай бұрын
It sounds like you had an incredible journey with your kombucha brewery, and it’s clear you put a lot of heart into it. There was definitely a moment when kombucha drinks started really taking off, but you’re right-educating people about such a new product can be the hardest part. Balancing a growing family and a business must have been challenging, but it’s great to hear you created such memorable experiences and had a positive impact on your community. The core issue isn't marketing-related; it's fundamentally about location. Your current placement in what appears to be a shopping center is problematic for a donut shop. Most people aren't willing to go out of their way for a donut, and those who do buy are likely making impulse purchases rather than being loyal, repeat customers. To address this, I'd strongly recommend relocating to a more strategic spot. Ideally, you want a location with high visibility and easy access, preferably with a drive-thru option.

It would be very interesting to see how long the increased sales lasts for versus how much money was spent on freebies. For such a low revenue potential business I can’t help but think they’ll struggle to pay off the costs the freebies before they need to do another big promo to get people back again. Also they need to on top of pastry trends. A croissant x donut was a trend already and it was called a Cronut. Rehashing an old trend and calling it something different likely won’t go down well with the ‘cool kids’ that they’re trying to appeal to.

The problem: they make vegan donuts and it’s too niche
@geoffmerritt2 ай бұрын
There is no difference between a vegan donut and a normal on except for a small amount of milk powder in the pre-made donut mix. Having had a million donuts, you'd be hard pressed to work out the difference.
@DonJulio942 ай бұрын
@@geoffmerritt That may be the case but the word "vegan" can deter a lot of people and greatly reduce limit their demographic. Most people aren't going to know that its only a minute difference in ingredients that makes a donut vegan and might associate "vegan" with bland/fake/tasteless (because vegan food has been done so poorly by so many business's already). If they want to stick with a purely vegan product because of their ideals then that's ok, but having both vegan and non-vegan options would have been my first move to turn this business around.

Creating content can be straightforward, and you don’t need a big budget to get started. You can start by using just your phone to capture and share your ideas. Test your content across multiple platforms to see where it gains traction. If you find that one platform is performing exceptionally well, focus more of your efforts there, especially if you’re limited on time. As for getting attention, think creatively about how to stand out. For example, they recently introduced a new crème brûlée flavour, which helped generate buzz and engage our audience. It’s all about finding innovative ways to capture interest and leveraging what works best for you. Keep experimenting, and you’ll find what resonates with your audience!

They should 100% do a cross of the viral dubai chocolate and a donut, then they can document the creation process, and hit on the auditory crunch that everyone looks for

That's a great idea. The Dubai chocolate has been all over socials!

Hi Davie Im a business owner in Lebanon we sell pine nuts direct to consumer from our processing plant, and I have been wondering how to scale it because the market is too small I was considering adding more products and going the retail route I would love to hear your opinion!

A perfect example of entrepreneurs who need to shift from working IN their business to working ON their business! The earlier one can do it sustainably, the higher likelihood of long term success.

It’s hard to keep up with both & it’s harder to find employees to replace you without hiring multiple Which struggling businesses can’t afford

May be a silly idea but instead of a cronut or “Doughssant”, can they do the opposite? a crescent shaped doughnut? odd idea but it may work?
@DavieFogarty2 ай бұрын
That's actually a very cool idea. Not sure how it'll be made but that is definitely different and could be very popular on social media!

Hey Davie, been following you for years. Recently moved to Adelaide and noticed this shop is just around the corner from me. I have a product I am planning to start an ecommerce store for; however, there are a few legal grey areas surrounding it. I’m planning to incorporate my business in Dubai where it is legal to sell the products in question. However, as I plan to target the Australian market, I’m unsure if I’m still breaching any legal requirements. I previously created a 7 figure ecommerce store selling contact lenses from Australia to the US, It is illegal to sell from the US to US customers due to it being a medical device, however the same rules don’t apply to Australian businesses where my company was based. I assume the same would apply for the company I am looking to build. Due to the legal grey area, there aren’t many competitors advertising in the Australian market. Whilst the US market leader is making around 2M profit/month. I plan to contact a business law specialist, but open to any other recommendations.

"we're debuting a mix of a croissant and a donut, so we're calling it a doissant" CRONUT!!!

A cronut is typically a donut-shaped croissant. I think they'll be making a croissant-shaped donut.
