I Try to Actually Finish Something I started and Lose My Mind in the Process | Swamptopia #6

In episode #6 of Swamptopia, I FINISH the biomass factory. Hooray, that's one thing. And I find out there are many, many caves in the swamp, some more inviting than others...
SWAMP ONLY RUN RULES:
• Cannot leave the swamp biome, according to the biome map.
• Can enter/exit caves from within the swamp, even if the cave extends beyond the swamp biome, as long as you do not exit the cave into another biome.
• Cannot use advanced game settings.
• Creature hostility must be left at default setting.
• Arachnophobia mode is not allowed.
• Cannot load a previous save unless the current save is corrupt.
• Cannot use any method to re-roll hard drives to obtain desired alternate recipe.
• Cannot interact with anything when travelling to the swamp at the start of the run, or if for any reason you respawn outside of the swamp.

I love this mysterious music he plays while entering the caves (e.g 7:30). It reminds me of another channel "Scary Interesting" which is famous from talking about accidents/disappearance of people venturing down the caves.

Haven't seen part 7 & 8 yet so perhaps you already figured it out, but a tip for fighting big spiders: Stun rebar. You have 2 caterium nodes in the biome so make some. When it jumps you, shoot it once with the stun rebar. Then just bash its skull in with melee while its stunned. Also great for big hog types. Its a good investmend seeing how you basicly need to keep hunting beasts to keep your factory alive 😉

"Shotgun" rebars is really effective only at point-blank range. It kills big spiders (except poison ones) with two shots, if shoot properly. Regular enemies need just one shot. But even an extra couple of meters to the enemy significantly reduces damage.

The spread is so incredibly aggressive that you really have to be like right up in their face for it to be a damage boost. In my experience, outside of a specific use, they're completely counterproductive. I can do more damage with them, but I also end up *taking* a lot more damage as well. I'm either too close to the plasma spitters to dodge their shots or I'm far enough away that the shatter rebar takes more shots to kill prolonging the fight. I can't seem to find a sweet spot where I'm able to dodge effectively and still noticeably beat the damage output of standard rebar. Same story for the big spider's jump attacks. With the standard rebar, I can nail one or two of the small spiders far enough away that I have time to switch to the sword before the rest close, but I have to wait too long with the shatter rebar. The sole specific use I actually like them for is the hatchers. You can run right in there an pop one in a single shot before they even spawn their crabs.

If you have a larger equipment bar, you can have more than one rebar gun at a time. It's faster to swap between guns to get higher DPS during the close up part, then while you run away to heal, you can also reload them all. At the very least, you get a multi shot salvo to start off with if you wanted to stay in close.

I sincerely hope the algorithm treats you well soon, because if folks see this they WILL subscribe ❤️ Also, the swamp-only challenge is pretty genius! Loving that you have to use two of the most under-utilized alt recipes in the game in order to make coal renewable through combat-which the swamp has plenty of! Alt recipes being scarce is also a little scary-there are a few others that can also do really game-changing things for this challenge, like taking coal out of aluminum production-but it's so unlikely you'll get it by that stage. Can't wait for the next episode! ❤

Hey, just binge watched your whole series, and I absolutely love it ! The tone of your voice with some humor and the cool concept really make some nice episodes ! I noticed you did not make the stun rebars. When fighting spiders I found out that their agility is what actually makes them dangerous, the stun rebars made the fight soooo much easier and now they're basically the weakest enemy ^^ (shatter rebars suck imo haha) thanks for your work !

I have lumen on, but I think the caves have some artificial lighting so they aren't completely dark.

Not sure if you have made more episodes for this series, but will you eventually use packaged fuels from the shop? I love the fact that you cut out all sorts of repetitive stuff like the harvesting of biomass sources. Also, what kind of capture card are you using?

I don't think I will used packaged fuel, but I will have to buy plastic and rubber from the shop because the only oil in the swamp is a well, which I can't use until very late game. And I don't have a capture card. I record gameplay using OBS.
