Oil is Useless in This Game | Swamptopia #13

In episode #13 of Swamptopia, I discover that oil production is much more convoluted than it should be and manage to implement a method to automate power production. Standard swampy shenanigans apply.
SWAMP ONLY RUN RULES:
• Cannot leave the swamp biome, according to the biome map.
• Can enter/exit caves from within the swamp, even if the cave extends beyond the swamp biome, as long as you do not exit the cave into another biome.
• Cannot use advanced game settings.
• Creature hostility must be left at default setting.
• Arachnophobia mode is not allowed.
• Cannot load a previous save unless the current save is corrupt.
• Cannot use any method to re-roll hard drives to obtain desired alternate recipe.
• Cannot interact with anything when travelling to the swamp at the start of the run, or if for any reason you respawn outside of the swamp.

Truly one of the best satisfactory runs I've seen, well done. Just to stand a chance of getting through to tier 7+8, without going insane or satisfactory 2 coming out, you could install the 'more loot from enemy's' mod. You would have a chance of getting coupons from kills as you will get diminishing returns from your kills when you sink them. I would really like to see you get to do some nuclear shenanigans. Awesome series and awesome builds.

This is like the best series i stumpled upon recently. Just watched all episodes in 2 days while pretending to work. So, I didn't play this game as long as you, but I think I might have an idea on how to save coupons. Buy the computers directly from the AWESOME shop. 50 computer for 6 coupons should be cheaper than buying the 2900 plastic required? (900 for crafting, 2000 for the circuit boards) I hope I'm not wrong and embarrased myself ^^ Anyways. Awesome content, can't wait for the next episode... Which will take a lot of time given all your constraints.

you could probably cheese combat by getting into a vehicle when they attack, and then getting out to hit them when they don't. You're invincible when in a vehicle, except for poison damage, you'll still die from that. Even the world damage barrier doesn't hurt you when in a vehicle. Whether that's a strategy you want to use is of course debatable, but I figured it's worth sharing either way.

There is an alternate recipe of steel with compacted coal. Instead of 3 iron + 3 coal = 3 steel ingots (45/min), it's 6 iron + 3 compacted coal = 10 steel ingot (37.5/min)

So why didn’t you use the pure copper ingot alt -> copper sheet alt? You could’ve strung both together and doubled your copper sheet production by just adding more water (and power) into the production line.

you can reset hard drive recipes by hitting esc and leaving the MAM. the hard drive will need to be researched again though

There's a reason why I say that the hard drives/alt recipes mechanic is the only part of the game I truly hate. Arbitrary RNG determining whether or not you get a recipe you need/are counting on is such an annoyance. Would be so much better if instead of three recipes the MAM gave you an option of three different materials and you then got to choose an alternate recipe to unlock that involved whatever material you chose. That way you still get some level of the randomness to encourage exploration and getting more drives/recipes but you have some level of control over what recipe you get. That way you're more likely to actually gain something rather than a complete waste of the time and resources you spent getting that hard drive (plus the 10 mins to decode it).

WOOT very nice! EDIT: contrary to what that website said, I know for a fact I have unlocked alternates for steel before I had steel unlocked. I was under the impression they were grouped by tier, so once you unlocked tier 3 and 4 you got access to all those recipes, and same when you got to tier 5 and 6, etc unless they changed this at some point, which is possible.

I am well over 300 hours on my "main save". I am half way through finishing the last Space Elevator objective and I only just discovered the Automated Miner. My reaction was exactly the same. What a f.... useless recipe. Why even keep a recipe like this in the game when during tutorial mission you unlock a proper miner?

Super expensive, too. If you can make some of the parts, it might be cheaper to buy a missing component. If you have nothing, then the final product will usually better.

This comment probably comes a bit late, but if you don't like any of the recipes from a hard disk, you can hit ESC and the disk will pop out of the MAM (it will hang in the air in front of it) and you can try again.
