Want to make a Live edge cutting board? Check out how we made two live edge serving/charcuterie boards complete with some small highlights of purple epoxy resin!
As we said in a previous video, Miranda and I received some live edge slabs from my parents for a Christmas present. The first project we made was a live edge waterfall table (link below) but we kind of ran out of ideas for the others. After letting the slabs sit in the shop for a bit, I decided to challenge myself.
I grabbed a slab from the top shelf and made myself come up with a project idea on the spot! We hope you enjoy this project!
I think there's something for everyone to learn from this project. Especially if you've never tried to flatten a live edge slab. I'll show you how to use a router and a DIY router slab to get the board perfectly flat without a planer!

I have not tried this, but after the first coat of Butcher Block Conditioner, you might put the slab in an oven at a low temp. for a bit and then repeat. Again, I have not tried this, so I'll let you be the guinea pig.

That would probably cause too much drying and cause the wood to warp and crack. Especially after taking it out and being in a humid environment like a kitchen

Once again another click bait title that doesn’t deliver. Not that the video is not informative but the click bait that doesn’t deliver needs to stop. Not just here but everywhere. Something as simple as saying I do not know why people break out the sander when the router to soften the edge when a quick hand sanding can get the job done. At least you deliver on the title even if it is only a quick tip.
@nicholicroghan3491
@nicholicroghan3491 Жыл бұрын
I agree completely... This guy got me 3 videos in a row 🤷‍♂️ how hard is it, really, to just title your videos to represent what you're actually doing
@McCartWoodworks
@McCartWoodworks Жыл бұрын
@@nicholicroghan3491 like I said in my comment he could have just easily said towards the end “I do not know why people break out the sander to soften an edge” while it is still kind of a cop out it at least delivers on the title. I have no issue with click bait to help drive views as long as the video delivers on that click bait in some way. Another video of his I commented on this exact same issue is up to like 40 likes and 9 comments. More than I have seen on any of his videos but the creator has yet to take notice or doesn’t care because the KZbin algorithm sees it as interaction and drives views to his content. But how long before people like me and you not watching his videos surpasses the views being driven to his content. I believe this drive towards views is strictly to try and reach that goal of becoming a full time content creator. Artificially driving up his numbers is not the way to do it as that will not be sustainable over letting it naturally happen and holding to any integrity he has.

I have a recommendation: if you are going to try to entice viewers to see your videos by starting a video with something like: "I dont understand why people do this", then I would personally really appreciate the clear delineation of what that particular statement refers to in the video and how you address it and what you think about it. That said, I have really enjoyed your videos as of late, and have admittedly learned some things from you, too. So thanks!

As the click bait title states “I don’t know why people do this”. I don’t know why you are are using the the router to cut across the grain of the wood instead of cutting with it. You would get a better finish doing to later. If you run a piece of wood through a planer do you have it cutting across the grain or with it? Same can be said with sanding.
