You and me both. I wore nothing but junk work boots for 30 years and when I found this channel and Rose Anvil I went on binge. Wyatt & Dad are re-crafting a 30 year old made in England Doc's for me. Ive had those since the very early 90's. Add to that some Thursday Vanguards, Some Whites Hathorns and a new set of Whites Millwoods. A decent start.

Awesome Wyatt IR custom made boots. The education we get from the masters of the trade are much appreciated. Showing the full process of girdling the waist, looking at it and deciding no, I don't like that and showing how you altered the spacing to make it right is genuine life. ( I'm still waiting on my official copy of the IR/ Falcon conversion process from Red Wing or Nick's.) You went beyond any expectations of ingenuity and skill.

Undoubtably an unusual request, could’ve bought Americanas. I gotta say though I don’t think it could’ve been done any better. I hope the customer was pleased. Interesting technique closing the waist up, it’s clear you know your bootmaking man. I’m curious to see how they break back in though. The leather might develop unusual creasing because it wasn’t designed for this. Something you can’t be held responsible for. I was considering Trenton & Heath for my resole but it’s pretty clear that even if they have a bigger shop and more equipment- you’ve got far more experience and hands on time in the field. I’m really critical about my boots/heritage clothing too, but I’d be confident sending my Vibergs/Red Wings/Daytons etc to you for work. Even your son seems experienced, knowledgeable and calm. You’d taught him well. I tip my hat to you fellas 🎩👌👍😁
@WyattDadCobblerCompany
@WyattDadCobblerCompany Жыл бұрын
Thanks! The customer has kept in contact about the boots. He loves them. The waist hugs his feet like he wanted. The creasing was a concern. I didn’t cover it in the video, but I pulled the corset in certain directions to prevent odd creases from forming. I’ve posted pictures on our Facebook page of him wearing them if you want to check them out.

I find it interesting that the RWIR is so widely loved and so widely re-crafted. Maybe RW should watch all these cobbler videos and design the boots that people want. They love the upper but want a leather midsole sandwiched between the cork and outsole. I’d also say dump the steel shank and go with a leather shank also. Maybe a softer outsole also.

For a regular "old cobbler " guy , like myself, I enjoyed this video and it was nice to hear the word "bespoke". American Cordwainer's should enjoy that. LOL. I enjoy alot of what you do in SRI. It's nice being able to see you work and alter boots . It'd be nice if the person wanting the re-craft were around to see that you got the waist fitted for them to their liking. I've always used dry. Pre -casing welt may help those who like using a wet welt. That way the welt can be semi dry. Btw, guys from India don't use brushes for their gluing. They just use their fingers and dab the glue on. . They do some great work too but, not a re-craft. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHi4k5uBiM57adk. Anyway, thank you for your interesting re-craft.

Very nice work! I also have a pair of 8111's that aren't very old, but I hate the soles they came with. They're vey hard and thin. Perhaps I'll send them to you to have a softer vibram sole put on. I don't really care for the cork in the sole, either, but I don't know if having it removed is an option with the Goodyear welt. I can't imagine how expensive that conversion was! Happy Thanksgiving all!
@WyattDadCobblerCompany
@WyattDadCobblerCompany Жыл бұрын
We have conversions that will accomplish what you are looking for that begin at $140 and go up from there depending if you want additional options. This particular job was $350. As for the cork, it is just a stable filler for the void gimming creates. There are other options to fill that void. Those don’t change the price or anything, just performance. Thanks for watching! Happy Thanksgiving to you too!

At 31:00, is there a reason you attach the leather sole grain-side down? Maybe to make the outsole stick better without having to rough up the flesh-side? I enjoyed your insightful video, by the way. Thanks!
@WyattDadCobblerCompany
@WyattDadCobblerCompany Жыл бұрын
The edging from the welts back were a natural edging. So I wanted the cream side of the sole to be pointing up. If you notice, I sanded everything but those edges. And yes, the fleshy side will bond to the soles better.
