I was wondering why all the distorted cutscene Gwyns have these huge lines emanating from their bodies towards a fixed point in the horizon, but I think I have an idea regarding why that may be the case, based on my limited knowledge of how animation works. Basically the game is trying to execute animations that were created for a different rig than Gwyn's own, using Gwyn. That actually works better than one might expect despite the atrocious results. All humanoid characters have similar rigs for obvious reasons. That seems to enable the game to assign some, even most points of Gwyn's model to their respective bones correctly. Except, off course, since the rig being used is differently sized and shaped from Gwyn's own rig, Gwyn ends up turning into a distorted mess. However, some points are not assigned correctly and seem to end up boneless. The bones define the position of the points, without bones, the points default to a fixed position. That could be the 0 point of the engine or some other arbitrary position, but as a general rule is really far away from where the model actually is during the animation. The game is still trying to draw polygons between the points normally, which includes trying to draw polygons between some of the points that were assigned correctly and some that weren't, which are now really far away. This results in these huge, thin lines stretching towards a distant point. When entire parts of the model are missing, its probably safe to presume that the game just didn't manage to assign any points correctly in that area. I think we can also explain why the sword doesn't get distorted nor has lines stretching into forever like Gwyn does: the sword is not part of Gwyn's rig, its a rigless object attached to Gwyn. Objects such as swords do not need rigs because they do not have animations where they stretch or bend, their appearance is always exactly the same, and they just get rotated around when characters swing them and stuff.

@@ГалущакОлександр No, the original post was right. The beauty of cloth physics is that they work under all (reasonable) conditions, cutscenes or animations that you didn't expect, most anything. The downside to near-infinite versatility is the performance impact, of course, and as this is an older game on console, it's essentially a guarantee that cloth physics will be limited to the player character if at all. Rigging glitches like he described are typical in fully animated models.

Could you imagine this from a lore perspective? Imagine being Gwyn, lord of cinder, perpetually on fire because you sacrificed your soul to continue being a god, and instead of waking up in that ghostly purgatory place you wake up in some random ass asylum for your undead believers with not only your own clones but also with some guy coming back over 700 per area times just to kill you and every other version of you. You have an inexplicable need to kill him but are randomly blocked by geometry literally not built for you. You can kill him in one shot but he keeps coming back and sometimes after he kills you you both come back for no reason. Jesus

So was rewatching after knowing a bit more about Souls games and 16:39 is something I think I can explain. Enemies usually can't friendly fire each other. This is a switch that is on each enemy and most bosses have this switch set to OFF, so they can friendly fire anything that gets in the way of their attacks. Eingyii has several different AI states, as he is just an ordinary Egg Bearer but with some extra things to make him work as an NPC. He starts docile like the ones out in Quelaag's Domain, but after talking to him, the game has to make him shuffle out of your way - so the game changes him to a different AI state and lets him move. This makes him perform a jump slash forward, as all Gwyns do when they're in full aggro state. In this moment, he didn't actually do a jump slash and instead did a combo, but what matters is he did one attack string, then stopped, as Gwyn is scripted to do that one attack regardless. So why didn't he damage you? This is because for certain events the game will have to have you be on a team with a specific NPC against other NPCs. The best example I can think of for this is Siegmeyer fighting against the Chaos Eaters in Izalith - here he can take damage from enemies and you, but he can't damage you and he will aggro onto enemies. A modified version of this state may be used for when you summon NPC phantoms, but that's just me guessing - it might be something totally unrelated. I don't know exactly how Eingyii works, but I'd be willing to bet that because he can aggro onto you regularly if you attack him or kill the Fair Lady, that they couldn't just make him move to a specific spot as an enemy like other times this happens in-game, like with the Hollow Soldier that closes the gate in the Parish, so they instead made him be "on your team" as he's walking over to get out of your way here, to differentiate it from when he actually wants to kill you. So he becomes live, mimes a combo that can't hurt you, then walks around doing fairly little. However, the moment he sees an enemy, he would want to attack it. And he sees an NPC that can be hurt by his moves, AKA Gwynlaag's Sister, and goes straight for her. It might also have something to do with the fact she is Gwyn, so A - she has attacks now, and B - Gwyn can friendly fire anything, as we said above. This makes him see her as a threat to the player and go to town like Siegward does against the Chaos Eaters. So why did sitting at the bonfire fix it? This is because sitting at the bonfire reloads the area, and the game sees him as a Gwyn, AKA an enemy without any special flags in this regard, so it makes him reset back to the spot he was in before you rested. Normally resting at a bonfire wouldn't move Eingyii back like this as he has a flag to make him unaffected by sitting at bonfires (a flag some enemies also share, like Black Knights - which is why they can chase you to bonfires and interrupt you while you're levelling up sometimes!). Reloading the area entirely means the game has to spawn him in again, and this time, his spawn point has been moved, so everything works as intended. At this point he's just an NPC you can talk to, and after you press A on him, the game lets the standard NPC interactions handle the rest, so his AI mode doesn't really matter now. Something funny I do want to point out - if this happened with basically any other NPC, then the damage they would've taken would've exceeded their aggro threshold and they would have aggro'd...onto you, not the guy clearly causing them the pain. I've had this happen due to extreme lag from a dying hard drive causing Shiva in Blighttown to spawn 4 or 5 feet to the left, in the poison swamp, take poison damage, and aggro onto me, causing me to have to run away and deload him before he dies from poison, and forgive my sins at Oswald to get another chance to talk to him. However, the Fair Lady has no aggro threshold - she might actually be the only NPC that is like this, now I'm thinking about it, as even the NPCs that don't have attacks like Frampt and Kaathe will still stop being friendly with you and leave if you attack them too much, but she lets you drop her HP to one without kicking you out her covenant or refusing you service, because she's blind, and therefore doesn't know exactly what's causing it - she just shivers more when damaged.

I know why 17:01 happens, or at least I remember something related to it: In the game engine used for Dark Souls and Demon's Souls (and subsequent games) there are specific values regarding what "team" an AI is currently bound to. In this context "teams" are essentially different groups that have their own unique friend/foe relationships with other teams. For example, the Forest Covenant has one team while the NPCs who attack them have another team. What occurred here was that the team that The Fair Lady and Eingyi are a part of, either A) have undefined behavior when approaching an NPC bound to Gwyn's team or B) Gwyn's AI team and Eingyi's team see each other as hostile, but the Fair Lady "Gwyn" can't attack due to lacking animations for it.

Gwyn attacking.. Gwyn.. is due to simple "allegiance" settings found within NPCs of any game. Taking example of a Bethesda game, another variable is "Factions". Black knights won't attack eachother but WILL aggro to enemies classified as demons and the like. But here, the spiderbutt is considered a friendly NPC belonging to a neutral / allied PLAYER faction. But seeing the literal backsack over there is an enemy, only made non-hostile and Gwyn being a boss obviously having to well, attack the player causes him to aggro to spiderbutt. Mostly cause something like this was never not ever intended to happen to begin with.. the world becoming not Gwyn's dominion but fuckin' Gwyn himself!

9:45 - enemy loading in Dark Souls is related to the map's collision. Different pieces of the map have a different collision name, so enemies related to that collision name are loaded when you touch that part of the map.
