NIGHT ONE my freshmen year of college, after DESTROYING THE dining hall mac and cheese I had NEVER in my LIFE, had to let one rip so badly, it was PAINFUL. But sharing a room with a gal I didn’t know and being top BUNK? It would be a sin to let that bubble go free. Where to go? The bathroom? NO! Why because you share a bathroom with 20 other GIRLS, its never empty! Who KNOWS what scent would exit me, cushioning it was also not an option. What to do? I had to go outside in the middle of the dorm quad and let her rip. The AGONY I felt that day haunts me 4 years later.

I shared a room with someone at first, but I never had a communal bathroom (ew lol).i shared a bathroom with my roommate. But this year, I requested my own room and my own bathroom. Plus, college was free to me, because I got a full ride due to my financial aid and grades. My university even gave me money back every semester. Plus I had kitchen when I was with my roommate, and I have my own kitchen now by myself. It just depends. Not every American university is the same.

On our American uni's often the Dorm buildings are known as a certain Hall, so you would answer, "Where is your dorm?", with "Oh, I'm in Smith Hall." for example. Publicly funded state uni's have standardized rules such as 'no heating elements or fire' in student rooms. You can have mini-fridges and microwaves,(sometimes). Often there are common rooms and kitchens in each Hall or sometimes more than one if you are willing to pay the $$. Private uni's have a bit more posh digs but their rules still have to abide by whatever fire codes are used in that city. Also, most uni's have apartments for married couples or students with children. They are fully functional with stoves, ovens, etc... Uni is hard for anyone with social anxiety although for some people it helps them to develop the coping mechanisms they need. For those with crippling social anxiety just being in a classroom is traumatic. Thankfully more and more uni's are developing distance-learning programs.

The flat situation is pretty similar to us in the UK. The only difference is if you are in a nicer, more modern set of halls you could pay more for a room that comes with an en-suite bathroom. The closest thing to dorms we have are the CROUS' flats (the crous is the organism that gives money and flats to the poorest students) because they're basically just a tiny room with a tiny bathroom and an oven but most people don't live here and I still wouldn't call it a dorm

I’d love to see the extra build but whenever suits you :) I liked this build a lot. It reminded me of my boyfriends uni halls. Mine were far more old and broken and not so pretty to look at! But it came with an en-suite so I was happy!

question: am i the only one that found it weird how in the original dorm build (by ea) the showers were in front of the bathroom door and just fully open ? 😭😭 like EVERYONE could see, a nightmare

The bathroom stall tangent is on par with the "I'm actually a good swimmer" tangent and I'm so happy I finally saw it. As a fellow chaotic Cancer, well done.

When I lived in the dorms I had my own room AND there was a kitchen. I picked that dorm for that reason. My love for cooking and baking started in that kitchen.

I can't wait to build my dorm in the sims 4 :D I was only in there for a year but i shared with my boyfriend, we had our own bathroom, our own kitchen and a (somewhat) seperate bedroom. (I've heard it's changed in the meantime tho. I think i remember that the single rooms (i had a double) now no longer have their own kitchenettes and instead have to share one (they still have their own fridges tho)

3:00 Finally.. Someone else with the same problem as me. I’d rather suffer for 3 hours than let anything out in front of people. Not even with people I’ve been best friends with for 13 years. It’s a no from me!

I'm so glad my university had dorms where you have a roommate but each dorm room has two separate bedrooms for each person so you had a roommate but you didn't have to share anything more than the toilet and the shower

Fortunately, my dorm wasn't like the traditional American dorms. We had separate bedrooms with a shared living space and bathroom. Each room held 2 individuals, either 2 girls or 2 guys, you couldn't share a room, but the whole dorm was co-ed so you could have male or female neighbors kinda like an apartment. Then there was a shared laundry room on either the 1st or 2nd floor like a laundromat. And a common area in the middle that was connected by stairs on the sides and an elevator in the middle.

When I first got my period, I went to the bathroom to change it out. A “mean” girl walked into the bathroom and asked if I was eating a bag of chips.. I am ashamed of American bathroom stalls..

Very nice build. Believe it or not, many public universities in America are more like British ones now, at least in terms of dorms. I had my own room first year in college and my own apartment the next three. All of the on-campus housing save one dorm was more apartment-style, and the student housing at my graduate institution was the same way. And yes, middle school is a special level of hell.

For those who want ovens in their dorms: just put them on the lot normally. When you click on live mode, a warning will pop up saying that there are restricted items on the lot and if you still want to continue or something along those lines. Just click accept and you can have ovens on you lot and everything functions normally. At least that's how it works for me.

American at uni in Scotland ~ up here actually a lot of people share rooms! I have no clue how they do it though. But here there’s everything ranging from shared with no bathroom, single with no bathroom, to single en-suite (and maybe shared en-suite but I don’t actually know). Personally I live in the TINIEST room, but don’t share it with anyone and don’t have my own bathroom.

You’ve taught me that we consider dressers different things. What you call a dresser we call a wardrobe, and they’re really not common at all except in dorms since there aren’t built in closets in dorms.

I've only been to America once, I stayed at the YMCA in NYC but oh my god are the toilet cubicles like that everywhere?! You could see everything through the gaps at the side of the door! Plus the toilet water was so high up the bowl I was practically a duck.
