Some say reading is a moral duty. Others say it's a conversation with the most influential people of the past. Either way, setting up the right environment to read is important to getting yourself invested. This is what I do.

This was a great video to open up while distracting myself from leaning the house, it can be so easy to go into autopilot and then become distracted by what I watch, this was the opposite, helped me remember to be intentional with my space and why I keep it clean

I literally have a video on my page called “cleaning the house is hard, let’s do it together.” Haha

Yep, you get it. Be in the moment. And…read every day. And we all should journal our progress. Keep a notebook of ‘books read’

Great video once again. Just like you i like to keep my beadroom as bare as possible. keep the distractions away from the sheets and its easier to get up in the morning and get going, instead of having access to the world at the bed side.

Profound quote you have there, “instead of having access to the world by your bed side.” I might use that one :) thank you for sharing, your thoughts are greatly appreciated.

It's hard to turn my home into a peaceful cafe because I live in a crappy apartment building with thin walls. Ever since I moved here, I've had to deal with neighbors yelling at each other, their kids running around screaming, people stomping around their apartment, folks blasting their TV's, having parties, and playing loud music. So, over the years, I've gotten into the habit of putting on my headphones, and listening to the noise of my choosing, in order to drown out their noise. If the neighbors are gone for a few hours/days, and it's quiet, then I can get some reading done, but that usually doesn't happen, because I'm stuck in a rut of continuously filling my brain with noise.

Background music while reading: pro or con? I never seemed to need it before the internet but now I kind of do. . .

I bought a CD from a library sale “music to read to” all the classic composers. I do use music occasionally’ especially if I’m alone. It helps fill the space. A sort of companion? If that sort of thing doesn’t effect you or sound like a good idea, then probably no need to! Try it out and see.

Very cool dude, I saw your comment on Van’s new video. I agree on your opinion on books, I would like to get into books, the only books I read are about science, but I would like to read some thing more philosophical or just stuff to ponder about if you understand what I mean. Got any good recommendations?

Thank you for visiting my page. It truly means something to me that you even thought to write a comment. I have a couple recommendations in different genres for you that might scratch your itch. 1. So You've Been Publicly Shamed - Jon Ronson. This book is written in 2015 (pre cancel-culture) and in my opinion, is the most important book about the current time we live in, where the herd attacks someone... but what happens when that attention goes away? What trauma is the cancelled person left with to deal with on their own? 2. Walden - HDT Van recommended this book too. This is an american philosophical classic. 3. I'd look up the author "Ryan Holiday" on KZbin. He makes stoic content, and has written 12 books on the subject. He constantly recommends books of great philosophers. I'd watch a handful of his videos, and pick one he recommends that might interest you. Hopefully this helped

You need a "cafe environment" to read books? Back in the day people read because books were the only form of entertainment and information. If you don't want to read then simply don't. Why torture yourself?
@NomadOverNormal
@NomadOverNormal Жыл бұрын
You bring up a solid point. I'm not sure what distractions people back in the day dealt with, but for me today - I live in a world where there are so many distractions. My phone, the stove beeping, someone trying to get in touch with me expecting an instantaneous response... I may be less equipped as a person to remove myself from these distractions as people were back then, and because of that, I need to create an environment that inspires this sort of isolation. Does that make it clear?
@johndong7524
@johndong7524 Жыл бұрын
@@NomadOverNormal No, it doesn't. If you go to an actual cafe you will be much more distracted by all of the surrounding noises than you are at home, unless you have very loud neighbors. You can turn your phone off or adjust it in a way that you only accept calls from select few important people like your parents and significant other. Stove beeping? Ummm... turn it off? Back in the day we read everywhere - in class, on the bus, at the beach, on bench in the park. It doesn't matter. If your book is a good read you will read it anywhere. But it seems to me that you are just forcing yourself to read for some weird illogical reason.
