I Turned One Piece into Magic the Gathering Cards

Honestly the flavor is perfect, the return to hand effect seems more like a blue effect though. I thought of maybe having him shuffle a permanent into a library to show how chaotic he can be in his nika form. But having a repeatable chaos warp on a stick seems busted on a plus effect haha.

Other magic one piece guy here, awesome flavour, these cards are SUPER MEGA BROKEN though. A 3cmc 3/4 haste reach is already way above curve, a 2/2 for 3 with +1/+1 tribal synergy is your base lord too, the front side of luffy is probably already too pushed without the planeswalker backside. The backside giving protection from everything for 5 turns basically wins the game on the spot. Something that's worth thinking about is that you can reflect periods in a character's life in a single card rather than one card for the entire character. Luffy in loguetown could be a 1/2 or something no problem, and tank man could be a 6/7 or something, gives a little more room to breath. Cool idea though keep it up

Really cool video! For future episodes though, and it's just a little detail, but the order in which mana colors appear in the costs and anywhere else for that matter isn't random. They always follow a specific order in MTG. Luffy for example would be red first, then white. It would make your cards feel just that much more "real". Keep up the good work :)

The -1 ability definetly have to say another target permanent. So it is basicly a 5-turn the one ring ETB and you can also poliferate it so it can even last longer.

Lol at White being the "good guys". It's the colour of order. The Boros Legion are the Marines. Other people commented on the power level, so I'll just add Bounce is a Blue ability, so to see it in R/W is a break from the colour pie. My own attempts at a Luffy card stayed within the existing Pirate colours of B/U/R, but I added Food tokens to the mix to fuel his abilities. Thinking about the other Strawhats also kept me in Blue and Black. Black especially, as the colour of Ambition. Blue maybe a stretch for Luffy himself, but Haki feels like a Blue ability.

Thoughts on Straw hat colours: Luffy: R, maybe RG Usopp: U Nami: UB Robin: G?... GB? Franky: UR Sanji: WR Zoro: B Chopper: WG? Jinbe: ... ... WU(R)?? Brook: RB I think luffy cant be very white because white is the colour of Law, (white isnt the good colour and black isnt the bad colour, they just normally end up that way) and luffy spends much of his time beating on marines personally and as a structure. Red is spot on though. Green also has some freedom to it, natural order, and he was kinda raised in the jungle twice, but it's not that clean a fit. RG Gruul being the colour of stompy, fix stuff with violence, smash with face, if in trouble get big, does feel like luffy's main tactic though. Weirdly an endgame luffy might have an argument for a little blue from Haki, just a smidge. Usopp is thoughts and gadgets, easy blue Nami the cat burgular is most UB, she has greed and smarts and looks after herself, the black probably drains off a little later in the show, not sure what'd replace it though. Probably also likes artifacts, pairs nicely with Usopp. Robin is tough. She blooms and is pretty rooted to the ground in her fighting style (G), she's reserved (not R, maybe even U), can be underhanded and has a demon form (B), doesnt care for the law (not W) Franky is mad science and passion, easy UR Sanji is chivilary and looking after the meek (W), but also burning passion (R), great boros fit. Also a better argument for haste than luffy, who often kinda walks up and says hi to his opponents first. Zoro, king of the underworld at the end of the story, killer for bounties at the start, seems black. Chopper, healing is in W and/or G, reindeers would probably be G or W as well. Monster point is like black/green though, brain point gains blue, speed point gains red maybe. Jinbe cares abour honour (W), the sea (U), but i'd also argue he can be a passionate punchy guy, so maybe some R too. WU if sticking to two colours Brook: Undead skeleton, rockstar pervert. RB Actually makes a pretty well rounded squad, could make a set around that for sure.

I personally would've gone in a Level Up direction for base Luffy, each level for each gear except 5th. I really like the idea of transform mechanics for gear 5 though. I'll be honest that I'm not really feeling a Nika vibe for Gear 5's 2nd n ult skill but that was some good attempt at it. My biggest criticism is on Gear 5's ult: 5 dmg to 5 targets??? it should've been 5 dmg to 6 targets. You've missed the opportunity to incorporate the number 56 there 😁

Level Up for Luffy with the final level being a transformation, is peak. Level 0 he's 1/4, 1-2 he's 3/4 that give pirates a boost, maybe something that makes him find pirates too, like tutor or similar (as he is, assembling the crew, after all), then lastly have transform.

Also he stands for freedom above all, which is the complete opposite of what white is (order and discipline). Still, great video, very entertaining!

The ideas of the card are super cool, but the teferis protection for a minus 1 and a removal for plus 2 is very broken i would change the deal five damage with the teferi loyalty cost because this in comander is nuts, cool video i hope that this collab becames a real thing

Love the enthusiasm and everything! Templating needs work, magic has very specific rules on how things are written to sound right. For example, straw hat would give trample first before giving its special effect which would likely use X variable when counting cards in the graveyard.

I think you did great! As an MtG player who’s been out of the loop for a few years, this looks just fine flavor and power wise compared to other commanders and cards this might play with. Only thing I find interesting is that I always thought of Luffy as Nya colors not just Boros because he directly values being strong for the sake of his crew and others he cares for while also having a connection with all things natural in the world (voice of all things)

I personally believe that Luffy should be Mardu, since stuff like uninhibitedness and self-interest are things we often see in him and make up a big part of his character. Especially with the contrast to his selflessness he can show to others

The flavor here is awesome. I think the straw hat and the front of luffy are great but the planeswalker is probably too good. Anything that gives him more loyalty like proliferate or let’s you activate him more than once like Oath of Teferi lets you make yourself and him both unkillable forever. There is some counter play but it feels too niche. Bouncing lands is also probably too good but he is really hard to flip so idk. That -7 actually seems underwhelming with how good the other two abilities are so it probably wouldn’t get used outside of niche situations. It’s a great start though and I really want to see the other cards you’ve come up with.

I think you need to add green. He grew up around forests, which the dual types are great flavor. Also rhythm of the wilds would be a win. It's not blue, which would break the game, and doesn't really add much except a way to make the scarce number of red pirates beefy. I guess ramp too lol

Overall, I like Luffy. I would probably make the white pip into hybrid black/white as Luffy is a very ambitious person. The +2 is also not RW, but I get the flavor. Maybe exile the card and have them pay extra to recast? Even then it's strong. Also, don't let people bounce lands repeatedly. Capsize is not fun to play against for that reason

Gonna say, white might not make sense narrative wise. White is usually shortened as the "Good" colour, but I think relying too much on white = good straddles design and colours. Yes, white is the colour of selflessness, but it is also the colours of society, structure, rules, authority, and taxation. Most of these things do not overlap with pirates as a whole or Luffy in specific. White, is s colour much more syited for the marines. Yes, the Marines are not "the good guys" and many marine leaders do terrible things. But, they do it for order, for structure, for a society to function. As Oda has said himself, most marines just want to help fight for a peaceful protected world from actually dangerous forces. Yes they are not the good guys, but white is not the colour of the good guys, and the more we show that the better we can explore these design spaces. If you wanna keep Luffy white, I won't stop you. Red is, incredibly Luffy, as emotion and impulsivity is inherent to its core. And with his spirit of addvrnture and friendship, along with growth, I see Green as another fitting colour. Also, while luffy helps a lot of people, his main, huge goal, that fuels him, is to become the king of the pirates. That's a lofty Ambition if there ever was one, ambition, the colour of black. I can easily seen a green red Luffy, or a Green Red Black Luffy. Because these traits aline more with him, and also shows that: you dont have to be white, to be good. And just because you are any other colours does not make you bad.

Commenting on powerlevel of Luffy planeswalker... The +1 is not okay. Bouncing opponent's lands is, incredibly unfun to play against, so much so that wizards stopped printing cards that could do that over 20 years ago. It is also, ridiculous powerful, even more so as a plus ability, yes Luffy is a God, but magic has *droves* of gods. Back in the day planeswalkers were literal above-being gods able to reshape or create universes, and a planeswalker we have depicted from that time is Urza, which also has a much more difficult condition to summon him.Do not excuse incredibly unfun and broken mechanics with narrative reasons. The -1... Could target Luffy, and it doesnt, a creature that can protect Luffy, thats, way too powerful. Having it be just -1 against a +2 ability, way too efficient. I would swap them to+1 and -2 at a minimum. The ultimate, Is kinda tame. I honestly expected that one to be more impactful. 5 damage to 5 targets sounds cool but, at best, its 5 damage to face and kill 4 big creatures. But, many big creatures that late game have bigger stats, and, there will often be less than 5 targets. Its not, that interesting either. Its, fine, but, could be something cooler. +2/+1 per creature in graveyard is also... Ho boy. Hooo boy. The 1 equip cost for red is also crazy. Amd equip 4 is, not as big a downside as it seems. The suspend does kinda kill it though, as it goes counter to the usual strategies, but this is still an insane card. Overall, yes, there is definitely a huge cup of fanboying and first cards power leveling, but for early designs, this is a fine start. I am really curious for what you go for after, but also even more curious to see a revamp of cards you have made, after you have gotten more experience. As finished cards, these do not get a passing grade. But as drafts, you cab go far.

I think you should do a bit more research into colours in MTG. Red is about freedom. White isn't necessarily about goodness, but more like law and order. I still think Luffy can be boros because of his abundance of allies and tendency to bring peace, but the hat should be red in my opinion.

Ive been making custom One Piece cards myself for a while now. Its nice to see someone else with the same urge xd I got for now a Moria, Enel, Buggy, Basil Hawkins, Big Mom and also some weapons and vehicles. The only one I have a deck made for is Buggy though. He is a UBR Human Pirate that puts outlaws from your hand onto the field when attacking ( then untaps and removes himself from combat) and also gives you the monarch when he enters. I would love to get into a 4 pod with One Piece commanders and cards and reskins xd

I'm not sure if Boros is the best fit for Luffy. Half of his identity being the "order" colour just doesn't feel right. I feel like he could have some Black in his colour identity. Not only is it the colour of ambition, it also fits with how "selflessly selfish" Luffy is. He's driven by his desires, but said desires happen to include making friends and beating up anyone who messes with said friends.

But the pace of which you've been presenting the card is literally like One Piece advancing with the story. When it reached 7 min and there's BACKSIDE of Luffy, I decided to stop.
