That’s pretty much everyone’s reaction when they encounter a gloom spawn for the first time. With guardians you need to be in their line of sight but these abominations, not even hiding behind a tree will save you.

My first encounter with the gloom spawn couldn't have been more horrific if it was scripted. So I'm in the forest of spirits on the great plateau and it's the middle of the night when I see this puddle of gloom sliding across the ground. I think to myself, "I wonder what's up with that." Save then approach. So in the dead of night, in the darkness of the woods, suddenly everything turns crimson as the hands screech and charge for me. Haven't noped out of a place in a video game like that in years. Once you're ready to face them, they're not so bad but that first time was a real cheek-clincher of an experience.

I completely forgot I could fast travel. I tried out running it, screaming like a little girl, and climbed a ledge thinking that would stop them. Wrong! They came up after me. Even my first encounter with a Guardian in BotW wasn't that scary. 😅

I first ran into them after I finished the Hebra Labyrinth. Ran for my absolute life. I had not been that utterly terrified since I first played Zelda and found ReDeads! Your reaction was perfect. XD

The gloom hand's screech is legit terrifying... that's not even mentioning that once you've slain the spawn for the first time, you can't rest easy yet due to Phantom Ganon right after the hands. Without a mini cliff to climb on or jump off, or having enough flower bombs to mass destroy those, they can chase for a fairly large radius

First time I saw these was when I accidently glided into gloom spawn territory in the underground. One of the things grabbed me as soon as I touched down, and I died in sheer terror. I then respawned back in the middle of their territory (thanks auto save!). They immediately spawned back in and chased me up a dead tree. While they did their creepy twitching and flailing about, I kept shooting them with arrows, but they kept coming back. When I started thinking about making a break for it, they just suddenly died and left me so confused.

Lol my first gloom hands was terrifying. There is an autobuild I use for them and gleeoks (two lone stone slabs connected by the long edge and one square one on top, forming a little tower) that you can just ascend into and gain enough height for 5-10 arrow shots. Complete with areocdua or kesse eyeballs, and ALSO not being afraid of being grabbed a couple times and losing a couple hearts, you'll be totally fine

I first saw the Gloom Hand near the Kakariko Village Skyview Tower. It spawned below the rocky cliffs so I didn't see it, so it immediately jumpscared me.

That set is there to ambush anyone going for that low-floating shrine. I hit the detection radius around 3am release night trying to get into Kakariko by carefully avoiding where I met my first Guardians where that tower is now, outran them somehow, and then it was 2 *days* before I could confirm I didn't hallucinate because everyone was keeping a secret for once.

keep a bunch of flower bombs on you, and if you can, then get a multi shot bow, just be prepared for phantom ganon

If you can get a good sniping position, you can rain bombs without them ever knowing what hit them, but nothing can prepare you for when phantom ganon sniffs you out like a fucking bloodhound

*In BotW, I HATED the malice (purple poisonous goop) and the guardians. Then TotK got rid of that and brought in gloom (hands). GREAT!! It's worse now. LoL!!*

You could use electric arrows on them, using topaz. And you should use multi shot arrows. Or just use the dazzle fruit. After that though.... You gotta fight phantom ganon

I almost shit myself when I first encountered them and when I got stronger I looked up online the best way to fight them and that’s how I found out that even if you defeat them you the have to deal with phantom Ganon I was like are you freaking kidding me I want the guardians back 😂😭

Bomb arrows are fine and all, but what if you don’t have any? I recommend carry a spear with ice element on it as well, it stops them in their tracks very easily, and gives you enough reach to stay at a good distance as well

Just Flurry Rush. The hands close the eye half a second before attacking, jump back and you will be able to Flurry Rush it.

I encountered my first Gloom Hands in a cave where one of the shrines were inside. I avoided them like the literal plague that they are until I had enough resources (and the balls) to face one. You should've seen my first encounter tryna fight a frost gleeok after only finishing the Wind Temple dungeon. I fought off lynels in BotW with ease, so how hard could a three-headed dragon-esque creature be?

So this wasn't the first time they had spawned it was the second time. Blessedly, I was climbing the first time and had the camera angle to the sky, wondering if the blood moons now happened during the day. Anyway, I had left Hateno and traveled close to one of my old hunting/monster part farming spots from BotW. The sky turns red again, I hear the screech and then turn the camera around just in time to see one of the hands snatch Link. I noped out of there back to the one shrine in Hateno after losing two hearts.

Yep. In Hyrule Castle there's some in the docks area and I jump over the railing the stairs and when they try to follow, the fall kills them. I don't know how quickly they might respawn, so I clear that area out asap.

It all depends on where you first find them, they're all over the map and they look like any other puddle of gloom - until you get close enough and they start moving. My first encounter was in a cave before I'd even gotten to Lookout Landing, so I had 3 hearts. There's also some on the way to Kariko Village. I wandered off the road to get to the shrine that's up off the ground by climbing the tree roots hanging down from it, and I was just jumping up to start climbing when I noticed the nearby gloom start to move and the music and red sky kicked in. I burned up the stamina jump climbing and barely got out of reach.
