I agree. The place is a disgusting rotted mess of mold and termites. It will never be safe for habitation. A complete waste of time and money imo. And I don’t know who these inspectors are or how much they’re being paid off but the work is fraught with shortcuts and unsound practice.

My only suggestion for the corner rebuild is to run some bolts all the way through those blocks. That way, it makes it more of a single block that helps to carry and distribute the load. Right now, it's relying on the adhesive and screws and there are too many individual fail points. The bolts will help tie it all together to the original timber. I don't recommend a lot of products, but I highly recommend Gorilla Glue Heavy Duty Construction Adhesive 0 second set. I used it for building sets, and it's no joke. Once it sets, it's incredibly hard to break the contact. I've seen it delaminate luan, 3/4" cabinet grade plywood, pull chunks out of #1 and #2 pine in the process of trying to break apart a section to rebuild it. If you ever use it, make sure the surface is clean. I applied it to a painted surface once. Its hold was still strong, but only as strong as the paints hold on the surface. I had to repaint a small section because it pulled the paint right of the wall. We built some pieces out of #1 pine and 3/4" cabinet grade plywood and put them through a hydraulic press to test their fail points. Depending on the joint with the adhesive, they survived an average of 4 metric tons of pressure before catastrophic failure. But we're talking about direct pressure 3/4" × 3/4" joint. The results were absolutely wild. I'm enjoying this series, and I can't wait to see the cabin when it's done.

@jeffrywilson7202
@jeffrywilson7202 14 күн бұрын
@99Projects No problem. Yeah, the GRK RSS 14225 screws have a shear strength of 123,592 psi. That's a bit of overkill, but with the changing climate the house sits in, those screws should be able to endure the abuse they will take for decades

Learned plumbing and electrical work by experience, and watching a few videos here on You Tube, I'm not paying some dude to work on something I'm perfectly capable of, unless my car is on a flatbed and I have to let them replace wheel studs that broke off, after the shop that put the wheel and new tire on over torqued the lug nuts. Not sure I'd have taken care of that corner that way, but laminating 2X6 boards that way looks sturdy. I'd have burned that pile of dead wood right where it was, because I'm lazy, and it wasn't that close to the cabin. But, you may have done the right thing, I don't know the laws about burning waste wood. Looks like you've got this well under control, I've made enough mistakes to learn a few things, and although I might have done things a bit differently, I like your style 🙂
