I know why the map freaks out occasionally. There's a minimap in the bottom right that you currently have minimized. Even though it's not on screen, the click box is still active on the screen region where the map would have been. Clicking on it centers the screen on wherever that click would be if the minimap was active.

11:19 this happens because the minimap is always loaded in and is just put behind the icons, so if you zoom in on the icons it takes you to where you would be zooming in if the map where to be fully visible!

11:18 it seems that the game forgets where the point of zoom was when changing zoom, it zooms based on your cursor in and out from that point, but sometimes it kinda just gets a little quirky, my guess is something to do with the international date line, and how the map wraps into itself
