I bought an XPS 15 9510 off of eBay with an i9-11900H, RTX 3050 Ti, 16GB of RAM, 1TB of Storage, and the OLED screen in White for exactly $1000. It has a small dent and runs a bit hotter than usual. However, I've been using it for the last 3 weeks and it has been great! The battery life lasts all day, so I never need to bring a charger to school. I'm planning to replace the thermal paste, replace the dented bottom case, and upgrade to 32GB and 2TB respectively since I know I'm going to be working with big file sizes and I need the storage. I think for $1000 it's a great buy if you need a good laptop for school.

Yep, its a great 15 inch laptop, like you say they do run a little hot if stressed for extended periods (there's always a compromise with whatever laptop you get) but generally they're pretty good for the screen, trackpad and keyboard is what I found. So far other than the odd software/windows problems, I haven't had any issues with the laptop in 3 years. I've only got the LCD panel but I'm sure the oled looks awesome! Only thing I might say is that you might want to prioritise a new battery in the long run as well, depending on how much you end up using it, cause my battery health is at around 60% after these years of use. Plus I dont know how long new ones will be around for. I also noticed on reddit that people say the battery isn't rated for the most counts either. Though your milage may vary. Not to mention that looked after properly and provided nothing irreplaceable fails hardware wise, this will last you a very long time cause of the 2 RAM slots and 2 SDD slots 😎

Thank you. This has been very useful in helping me to find a solid power house for a variety of tasks for a family member.

You’re most welcome :) I generally kept the review focused on real world aspects/use-cases. As opposed to just numbers and performance metrics, so glad to hear it was useful! :D

I find sixteen by ten ratio is much better than sixteen by nine.

Me too, it was one of the reasons for choosing this laptop, everything looks too squashed on 16:9 - thanks for the comment

@@Productive_Tech I think the industry and TV makers must make this the standard and move away from sixteen by nine. Not enough workspace on screen

@SteveMacSticky Yep for productivity based tasks 16:10 needs to become the standard

nice job. I agree with the points you made, especially re: the new XPS 16. I'm using an 18 month old 9520 running Linux. Biggest issues are that it runs hot too much of the time and I think that has cooked the keyboard which is failing - several keys are no longer registering unless I press hard. I already replaced the fans because one started to screech!

Thanks for the comment! Fortunately I haven’t had such issues with my laptop but really goes to show how quality control should be improved. Interesting that you use Linux, as many of the problems I faced during use are more to do with windows (Though windows 11 has been strangely stable). I might try Linux sometime in the future!

A little suggestion... (Actually it was just something I was Looking for today since I'll be buying a new laptop very soon) Can you, if it's possible, make a video on what to look for like features or resolutions or screens etc etc...before buying a laptop?! Amazing video btw!
@Productive_Tech

Cheers, appreciate the feedback! I can definitely look into this, though I feel it might be a bit out/late for you timewise as I usually have quite a few videos prepared in advance... When are you looking to buy a new device and what sort of tasks would you be doing on there? I think I might be able to instead offer greater value by tagging a condensed list of things to consider when buying a laptop in the description of the video if this would be of benefit to you?

@@Productive_Tech Ohhh...thanks for reaching out ! Don't worry I'll be buying in the end of this year ...or maybe beginning month of next year... I m looking for tasks such as studies , projects or sometimes to watch anime or to watch lectures... hehe Please take your time and there's no problem if you won't be able to ..! Good luckk for your other videos!!

@not_so_ryu No worries! I have quite a lot of windows 11 content coming in the meantime so hopefully that should be beneficial either way. Should be able to get something out by that time but thanks for understanding. I really appreciate your support!

My XPS15 (2020) died right after 4y extended warranty ended. My repair guy replaced my motherboard for S$900 😢💸 At least now I have a XPS15 (2021), a decent spec bump especially in graphics :^)

That is really unlucky, it's always the case that something goes wrong after the warranty ends :'( The only thing I've changed in my laptop is the SDD from 512GB to 1TB. To be honest, that reminds me, I ought to do a backup of my system cause its been a while XD. Appreciate the comment 👍

8:14. It would be useful to some of us if you told us what happened there.

Fair point. I would if I could as unfortunately even I don’t know exactly what happened. I just turned my laptop on, can’t remember if it was on sleep or not but after the screen “lit up” this was displayed. Nothing would stop this screen apart from holding the power button down for 10 seconds and then turning on again.

Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean, which part of the video or particular setting are you referring to?
@alishefi163
@alishefi163 2 ай бұрын
@Productive_Tech on task manager, performance section, you can see gpu, that you can set deffrent actions like 3d, video encoder and .., which one is good to set for graphic design task, go to the task manager, performance and you ll see.
@Productive_Tech

Hey there, just watched the video again and struggled to find the point you’re referencing. However, I did go into the task manager then the performance tab and I think I can see what you mean. If you are referring to the graphs that you see they are just graphs only, there are no settings that you can really change from this page. I have just kept my graphs on the default ones, changing these display graphs will not change your computers performance. Let me know if that clears things up
@alishefi163
@alishefi163 2 ай бұрын
@Productive_Tech yeah I was thinking about the setting that they may affect the performance, like you choose what gpu focus on. Now I see that those are just graphs. Thanks bro

Is it good for programming?
@Productive_Tech
@Productive_Tech 4 ай бұрын
Though I haven’t used it for programming myself I will say that this will likely be more than capable for that. Not to mention the keyboard is super comfortable for extended use and the screen being 16:10 is very handy in text based applications and makes a bigger difference than I thought, which would be especially useful in text based situations like programming.

Yes I think there were a lot of issues with the original 9500 models but had been “fixed” for later models. I mean I’m 3 years in and fortunately haven’t had any issues hardware wise
