I think it would have been way cooler if Yatterman Night was about the pitfalls of monarchy or something. Like, even if the original Yattermen were good guys, and decided to rule the land, there's no guarantee their descendants will share their ideals. It's even possible that in order to maintain peace and live up to their ancestors' legacy, the descendants of the Yattermen overdid it with security and surveillance and became a dystopian fascist state or something.

I had something written about your idea that I ultimately cut. Basically, throughout the show they talk a lot about preventing cruelty and injustice. It's basically the motivation for all of the main characters. And doing something like you say, where the villains had that same motivation, and it slowly drove them into a dictatorship, would've tied everything together really well.

Since the trailer, I immediately knew people would just be *straight-up, directly negative* to TRIGUN STAMPEDE. However, this is Studio Orange we're talking about. A 3D CGI powerhouse of an anime studio. I gave it a shot since I wanted something new and fresh- and boy did I get it. To be honest, I think this show excels at what it sets out to do- and it hits the mark near perfectly. The visuals, the movement, the emotions, etc., are probably the best that Orange has done, not to mention the insanely talented voice cast. My only complaint was the pacing on early episodes. The finale was borderline bonkers, it was amazing. Adding the fact that Yasuhiro Nightow, the mangaka himself, is praising STAMPEDE alllll the time when an episode airs, lol. It just sucks that plenty of people didn't ever give it a chance, and a lot of people were comparing it with 98' TRIGUN, which, I didn't really care. I don't mean that in a negative tone but I *do* want to watch 98' just to see the differences. Other than that though, I just wish anyone can give this a fair shot. Edit: some of these replies, Christ... can you lot relax? If you hate it that much, okay then, but just lay out more constructive criticisms instead of shitting on it. I did enjoy this show. It's a 3D anime with soul. I get that the story has problems that are present in modern storytelling, and it isn't everyone's cup of tea. I'm not sure myself on how the original anime/manga goes, but as far as I can tell, this is a story retold. And as someone who doesn't have time for anime/manga nowadays, this was really good. In my spare time I would probably look over the details they left out of it too. But does it stop me from wanting to watch the 98' anime or read TRIGUN Maximum? Hell no, it doesn't. If TRIGUN STAMPEDE was my entry point in this universe, then so is the 98' anime and Maximum for other people. Man, calm the hell down already.

I wasn't happy but I watched the whole thing. I hated the animation at first but it grew on me, but though it was not what I liked or wanted. I hated how straightforward it was. It wasn't bad, but it removed everything special about the first series. The mysteries were gone, the emotional ups and downs were flattened, and the goofball nature of vash was just not there. I regard its fans as I do the fans of live action bebop or live action ghost in the shell. They like the aesthetic or they like the product without understanding why the original was so special.

It's not even based on the original manga any more than the old series, jsut another adaptation. So saying that is already not giving it a fair shot in terms of expectations. But it seems to do decently in Japan, partly BECAUSE they're not so hung up on obsessive lore pandering, unlike "everyone", that being English-only Adult Swim secondaries on forums. I don't like Stampede because it's just pointlessly retreading the specific IP, probably in order to seek clout in Western markets that ARE only attractd to old IP, even if it's something like Sonic movie being just as bad as Hop by Illumination. I like shows like Last Exile spoofing on captain Harlock and galaxy express, and I like Soul Eater Not! establishing lore in Fire Force. So I'm NOT hard to please. Stampede just does the ACTUAL thing that AMericans wrongly attribute to "corporate wokeness" because they're too media-illiterate to identify the problem; and that problem IS that audiences reward retreads. They actually CAUSE the problem and try to pin it on wokeness, when the whole thing wouldn't happen if they actually just googled new stuff or used our friendly website we have here. Even more insidiious is when they prop Lucas and Tarantino as some kinds of genius when all they do is reference media that USA makes difficult to market inside its borders without a big name auteur, like Kurosawa. The same kind of thing when Hollywood borderline banned Anime directors when all the Japanese animation you could find was paid with peanuts to animate Disney Afternoon and Turtles. We have Australia to thank for even THAT happening, and now they're wasting Filipino talent on Velma. And ALL the mooks cry that this "wokeness" just started yesterday and not with Tranformers and Robotech. をはり

man, I really wish people wouldn't rip into CGI in anime so much... they did that with Chainsaw Man too, and the CG was often nearly imperceptible in that, like, 90% of the time. and Dorohedoro is one of my absolute mega favorite anime, even though the CG on that is older, and definitely has a larger proportion of visible jank. it was really good for the time it was made though! and the show itself is so aesthetically stunning and well written that I cannot imagine getting hung up on that. on top of that... visuals aren't everything. my other favorite anime of all time, Golden Kamuy, has a supremely unfortunate CGI bear in the first episode, and uses actually bad looking CG for a lot of the animals in the early episodes... it absolutely _KILLS_ me, knowing how many people were probably deterred from the show because of that, and then missed all the amazing writing, and character building, and plot twists, and excellent themes, that are present in the rest of the show. it's seriously one of my favorite examples of how a show can be semi-episodic and make both parts work... like, there's a problem-of-the-episode loose structure that sometimes supports the plot, but each episode is a new puzzle piece that feeds into overarching questions in a really satisfying way... it's just really enjoyable on an episode-to-episode basis, and then it also rewards you greatly for being along for that ride. (it's also stunning to me that the CGI bear is what's gatekeeping people, and not any of a handful of other things that could reasonably be doing that instead. and no, it's not what you think. idk what you'd think after hearing that, but it's not any of those things. let's just say there is no limit to what this show will treat as a punchline, and there is no anticipating what in the hell the bit is going to be in any given episode. it is so hard to recommend this anime, but I love it so much.)

@@Yixdy it is great... I guess what I mean is that CGI in anime has made a lot of really fast improvement. so even something from as recent as 2020 can feel like they've come a long way since then. like, even just between 2020 and 2023, MAPPA has clearly refined their method. and while I can imagine people who just don't like CGI in anime ripping on Dorohedoro for looking CGI in some places, I still think it was really good.👍

it can really ruin a masterpiece of a story when done bad, bringing it down from a 10 to a 6 and even when done well it's still jarring. anime almost always uses CG at least nowadays, but when it's a decent chunk it has never been a good thing.
@kamuyking551
@kamuyking551 Жыл бұрын
@@lillith7257 I think you're kind of failing to see the bigger picture here... I can tell exactly why they wanted to use CGI on both Dorohedoro, and Chainsaw Man. I mean... just look at the main characters. both Kaiman and chainsaw Denji have very detailed, fiddly designs that would be a nightmare to hand animate. if you insisted that it be done by hand, you would probably end up with no anime at all. and even just looking at the difference in technique between Dorohedoro and Chainsaw Man, you can see how much MAPPA has improved. it's incredibly impressive, especially given the relatively short amount of time between the two series. I honestly think that Dorohedoro is interesting, in part, _because_ you can kind of see some of the limitations of the technique... it feels like a little snapshot of what kind of work was possible at that point in time, and I think that's really neat. I think what needs to be recognized in this discussion, is that CGI isn't evil... its just a tool. one of many that animators have at their disposal. and it can be used well, or it can be used poorly. to acknowledge one of these things but not the other is just factually false. and even if you can see a technique struggling at the edges of its limitations, it's cool to see what still can be done with it. I think Dorohedoro has an amazing aesthetic, and the story and characters are strong enough that I'd probalby even watch the show if it looked like dog shit... fact of the matter is, it _doesn't_ look like dog shit. it _can_ look a little awkward in motion sometimes, but honestly, that doesn't bother me, given how ambitious of an adaptation it is. all of the environments in Dorohedoro are so richly detailed and full of grungy little touches that make it all feel realistically lived in... and a LOT of the character animation is so jam packed with energy, personality, and details that really make the cast lovable. to clarify: I know these things can be done without CGI as well... I'm just saying that CGI doesn't rob the production of these things, and actually might've made it easier to bring it all together on screen, in this particular case. and honestly, looking at the Dorohedoro manga... I don't know how else they would've adapted art like that for animation. I think Dorohedoro's manga art style works uniquely well for manga specifically, and if an anime adaptation was ever going to be made, it would need to actually put work into adapting the aesthetic to fit the medium of animation. the CGI approach retains as much of that highly detailed information as possible, and you can tell that the team that worked on this anime really really cared about the source material, based on the omake episode at the end. in that episode, they created a series of short skits where they actually _did_ use 2D illustrations! but they had a more limited type of animation, where the drawings just sort of pop between key frames rather than being 100% animated. but the illustrations maintain a stunning resemblance to the source material, which must've taken a TON of effort, and it's just... really really impressive. and very touching that they'd also include that sort of homage. idk, I just cannot in a million years imagine looking down on that kind of effort and consideration... I had too much fun watching that anime to begrudge it for something like CGI animation.

It's worth noting that the vast majority of what people claim is "CG" in Chainsaw Man isn't 3D CG at all; it's generally either very slick traditional animation or some alternative method such as rotoscoping which is still primarily hand-drawn. The issue isn't CG, it's the *idea* of CG and people getting a bug up their butts about styles of animation not being "anime enough."

While I do slightly prefer the more relaxed pace and subtler moments of Trigun '98, Stampede is still absolutely killer and takes some really neat spins on characters who the earlier anime didn't really explore and overall has a more consistent tone. Casshern Sins is an EXCELLENT show that I think you'll like and I've heard Gatchaman Crowds is a fun and quirky show. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time is one of my favorite anime movies too! I always assumed it was more popular than it apparently is. You should check out everything directed by Mamoru Hosoda. I haven't seen Belle yet, but everything else I've seen from him is top shelf. I love these randomizer videos! I hope you get some more good shows out of it.

Loving the content and your incredibly approachable way of getting people into anime, or newbies into watching more of it. I like your informative history dumps of older anime spin-offs/adaptations or long running animes, so definitely keep that up. For the safety wheel recommendations if you’re still taking them (sorry if mentioned already), Dragon Goes House Hunting is a fantastic little light hearted slice of life anime with an out there concept (the names says it all) and SK8 Infinity is just a beautiful looking and pleasantly fun anime based on a sport I love watching and got into watching as a child thanks to various video game series.

I need to thank you for reviewing Stampede from the perspective of someone who hasn't seen the '98 Trigun. I grew up watching the original release on Adult Swim so I have been begging some of my friends who are new to anime to review it because I was having trouble differentiating between 'this just being another meh reboot' and 'I'm just jaded because I'm a Trigun fanboi'. I do want my biggest problem was the character design of Vash. Would love to hear what people think on the differences between the models.

This idea for the randomizer is great! So original, I never heard about Yatterman before and it sounds like a lot of fun. It's nice to hear of series that went under the radar! Trigun Stampede was amazing, as a fan of the original, it got rid of the little problems it had. My nostalgia makes me miss the Western feel, soundtrack, and design of the original though, and Milly! I am happy there is a second season of Stampede :D

i've genuinely never had a strive to watch anime, the only ones i've watched were some studio ghibli movies and a binge sitting of Beaststars, and i absolutely love that show to death. the animation is super cool and knowing that Trigun Stampede is made by the same studio is making me wanting to watch that show even more. I've seen criticisms from people all around different corners of the internet for the stylistic choices and people are allowed to have opinions on things but, the animation and action shots are so fucking cool and you CAN'T deny that!

I've seen so many horrible takes on Stampede from the OG Trigun fans it's depressing. Especially when they dunk on its animation and visual direction. Like, do you people even have eyes behind those nostalgia glasses? Then they would also often go on about tone and pacing, and it'd be even more baffling because the original was spinning its wheels with goofy monster-of-the-week antics for like 20 episodes, and then at the very end it would remember what it was supposed to do plot-wise and wrap it up in in what little runtime it had remaining. There was no sense of progression or even understanding what the central plot conflict was about. It was so jarring when I watched it that I went to find the manga and found out it hadn't even been finished yet and most of what was out by then had a much darker tone that the anime had only transitioned near the very end of its run, causing a whiplash. Stampede handles its characters and themes so much better. By sacrificing most of the (inconsequential) side-cast encounters, it enables the audience to focus on what's actually important for the plot. If people can't appreciate that, they probably don't even understand what the original manga is supposed to be about.

Having read the manga and watched the '98 anime, I really think Stampede does an incredible job at remixing plot points from the manga-it's still Trigun at its core, being created by a team of people who absolutely _adore_ the franchise and put so much hard work and passion into its creation. But it's also something _new,_ and that both excites and terrifies me. I really can't wait to see where Orange take the story in the future. I also can't recommend the manga highly enough. Don't get me wrong; the '98 anime is great! But Trigun Maximum hit different and so much harder for me, and I feel like it's unsung by comparison.

I was currently watching the original Trigun anime (episode 11) and then I get recommended a video with Vash in the thumbnail even tho I’ve never seen a single person even mentioning the existence of this anime before I just had to click, thank you KZbin recommendation I wouldn’t have known there was a new Trigun anime without this video, and just from the recap of the first episode... wow, it’s completely different, Vash’s bounty even went from 60 billions to 6 millions. The only thing similar to the first episode of the old anime is that gag where Vash try to shoot his gun but he has no bullet. I have no idea if I just got spoiled a major thing, but it just looks and is so different I might just watch both, they seems like such different experience that I might even watch them back to back (I feel like I lost my ability to make good sentences while writing this comment)

Since literally nobody outside of China (or even in China really) knows about the third "anime" Bai Bian Bu Lu Ke (百变布鲁可), here's the synopsis of the show I've found on a Chinese website: "Transformer Bruco is a 3D animation work created by Bruco Animation for children aged 2-6. In the tranquil town of Lusaka, there live three transforming block robots - Bubu, Lulu and Coco, who are created by the magical Dr. Pai and have special powers to transform into various vehicles and help people solve any problems. The work aims to let children learn about the knowledge and functions of various vehicles through interesting animated stories, and cultivate the qualities of positive mutual aid, solidarity and love."

Ahhh I loved your review on Trigun Stampede!❤ I'm so so happy you gave it a chance and you're so right about the haters, at this point they're just unreasonable. Oh, and let me tell you, the '98 adaptation, yes, that one that's praised so highly, has soooo many issues! While I still treasure it in my heart, it doesn't hold a candle to the manga. The '98 adaptation is honestly majorly just full of filler, only taking away from what material they had at the time since manga didn't end till years later. The characters are also really mischaracterized...for example because of the director, Vash was made into a pervy skirt chaser which he ISN'T (Mr. Nightow himself was not happy about this change, I read an interview about this. Vash is not a women lover.) and Meryl with Milly were in the '98 basically reduced to nothing but love interests, forcing a romance into the story. Eugh. And don't get me even started on what they did to Knives... They basically turned him into your everyday cartoon villain 😭😭😭 This is why I adore the Trigun Stampede though. Yes, it isn't one to one adaptation, it's more sci-fi focused, the timeline is scrambled and some things are changed...BUT the essence, the core themes from the manga are kept! That's why I love it! There are SO MANY REFERENCES to individual manga panels, it's like finding easter eggs! Delightful. Studio Orange did a great job making this reboot, it can be said it's a love letter to the manga. So full of love, effort and respect towards the original work.🥹🥹

I love how there are people who say Stampede doesn't do the story justice and that the 98 anime is superior in that regard when the OG is *LITERALLY* fan-fiction. It doesn't follow the manga storyline at all. Fucking Knives fights Vash using a gun in the OG, when it's fucking carved in stone that Knives despises firearms and considers them weapons of sinners and cowards. Stampede while reimagining the events of the manga, actually follows them MUCH closer than the OG anime ever did.

I came here from the talk you did with Ah Lecks on his second channel, and though this doesn't seem to be your usual style of content from your homepage and from what you talked about in that video, I still had a blast watching it!! This was plenty in-depth for what it was, so I'm totally looking forward to exploring the rest of your portfolio, that seems to be even more so! :) p.s. you should totally check out Bonsai Pop's video on Tigun Stampede, as huge fans of the original they made a video talking about the reboot and where it was going as opposed to the original. Their theorycrafting ended up being 100% correct, and the video is a great to watch even if it wasn't. It isn't strictly necessary but if you're looking for opinions it might be a solid video to go to. Funnily enough I haven't actually seen either of the adaptations and have been meaning to get into it by watching Stampede, especially since I watched that video. Yours has sold me on it all the more so. Anyway, thanks for reading this!!

You can't just watch the first few episodes and leave it before the show even has a chance to start. Yeah, you didn't get into it- it didn't even start yet. Trust. Watch at least half of '98. The characterization in '98 is so /so/ much better, where its basically non-existent in Stampede. I say this, as someone who watched Stampede first, liked it in concept but felt there was something missing. I am not a fan of a lot of 3D work, I did not like the Stampede CG but grain of salt. I went back and watched all of '98 after watching the first 10 episodes of Stampede and I had no will to finish it anymore.

The story tone/direction in Trigun 1998 is basically “fun and games” from the first half and the other half is “life and death”. Trigun Stampede is mostly mature “life and death” with ptsd and trauma. In the end, both of those versions are amazing. I also recommend that you should watch the movie “Trigun: Badlands Rumble”, this is not mandatory I would say because this is like a fun side story not mentioned in the manga like almost every anime movie ever that is based on its series. From what I heard, thanks to anime’s success in america, this movie is more like a “thank you” gift for Trigun fans but hey I could be wrong tho

PLEASE when you watch the original trigun don't sleep on the dubbed version!!! Johnny Young Bosh does an amazing job with Vash as well as the original cast Also Johnny Y.B reprises his role for stampede with new voice talent like David Matranga as Nickolas D. wolfwood . Neither show trigun or stampede is better than each other but more parts to a greater whole and I cannot sing the praises of either enough. The original has that classic 90's flare that gets you emotionally invested in the characters while the reboot pulls out all the stops having every single manga only characters to put onto the screen just about. As someone who was watch trigun, stampede, and read trigun and trigun maximum the manga I honestly recommend both shows or all three !(( Trigun 98' had to make up it's ending due to the manga not being done where as stampede took all that info and ran with it )) It's rare a show recaptures the heart and soul the original did but stapmede Vash is the same guy I grew up with that originally made me love anime to begin with, trigun was one of my first anime ever And Vash no matter what shell he is repackaged in .....I will always have a soft spot for and am glad new fans are now joining me and are along for the ride because with his original voice actor coming back it feels like a long lost favorite has returned after a long wait :)

In my heart, nothing can replace the original '98 Trigun. When I heard that there was going to be a remake/retelling I was skeptical but willing to give it a chance, and I'm glad I did. Stampede needs more love. What I appreciate is that it's not trying to trample on the original or overshadow it, simply trying to add onto the amazing story that's already there and give respective call-backs when needed. It's trying to be different and I respect that. I also don't think it's that hard to separate them either. All the characters are just as likeable as they were in the '98 version too.

I also love that the first one was a western and then once you're invested in the world and how it is THEN throws the twist of being a Sci-Fi in it

I run a twitch channel airing a classic CN lineup. Like, it runs a weekly setup schedule with commercials and bumpers designed to emulate the best of CN. So naturally, the whole weekend's adult swim blocks are anime (fri-sat, sat-sunday, which even adds an extra 2 hours to the back end to give more room for anime saturday morning, and saturday into sunday) and the ONLY time I've ever seen anything of trigun is ONE TIME I managed to stay up ALL NIGHT (well since I started this project) because I wanted to watch through my entire satuday night/sunday morning block, which has the best lineup imo (so starting from midnight, with each being half an hour, shinchan>Hamtaro>Full Metal Alchemist>FLCL> Ghost in the Shell SAC>Cowboy Bebop>Heaven's Lost Property>Sekirei>Ranma1/2> Lupin the Third>Star Blazers (yes the dub)> and then Trigun> Sgt Frog> Ruroni Kenshin> Jojo> Mew Mew Power (originally sailor moon, but moved sailor moon to sunday afternoon to be apart of toonami and just felt like a magical girl anime was the best way to bring in the morning). That time I was up at 5:30am was the only time I caught it. Now that I think of it, I wanna add Deltora Quest before Mew Mew Power, but don't want to get rid of jojo...

I haven't seen the original Trigun so I was going into Stampede completely blind. I don't know if it comes close to the original and I can see why people who love the 98 Trigun are put off by the different mood and different character design but that is all the reason I can think about why someone would say they don't like Stampede. The people who say they didn't like it were probably watching like 5 minutes of Stampede and decided to not give it a try and my god, did they made a mistake. The 3D animation is different but you get used to it pretty fast as it is the best 3D animation out there, as expected from Studio Orange, who specialized in 3D animation and already showed what they are capable of in Houseki no Kuni and Beasters, two shows that are very beloved by a very large fanbase (although it is more the manga of Houseki no Kuni which gets all the recognition). The animation in Stampede is outstanding. The show has such beatiful shots due to the composition and direction that work very well with the 3D animation. The story is not a lighthearted comedy like the original was (that is what I have heared at least), it is more like a very suspenseful tragedy, almost heartwrenching at times. Paired with the incredible soundtrack, the show manages to create a gripping atmosphere that makes you yearning for more after every episode. It's been such a long time I've seen a show where I just sat there, staring at a black screen in silence when I've finished it. Trigun Stampede left me speechless, despite having watched it with a friend, the room was shrouded in silence. I do not want to pretend the show is perfect. Although I, personally, can't think of anything wrong with Stampede on the fly, I am sure there is something to pick on when looking for it. It is a damn good show nonetheless and very, very beautiful despite being 3DCG, which really is the biggest flaw of the show I can think of (which is kinda amazing, as I just called it fuckin beautiful).
