They have multiple colors for dark hair now and the reason it may not have shown in his hair is because he had orangey/brassy hair which neautralized with the blue, which may have given different results

I think the reason why it didn't work is because the orange-brown hair was neautralized with the blue. So I think the darker color of the blue was deposited instead of the lighter color.

Yea I JUST figured out why 🤣 it is a color deposit vs when I actually my hair myself I use a 10-20 vol developer to lift the red

Smokaloto nothing wrong with that, if it says 4A then it could be 4A, or 3C or 4B. What matters is that you’re properly hydrating and maintaining the moisture in your hair. If it’s hydrated and moisturized it has less chance to frizz when using a styling product and has a lot of shine, bounce and movement.

You should still do it for yourself. He washed his hair but I'm not sure if his hair was still wet. It looked wet while he applied the overtone. It clearly states put dye on dry hair for it to work.

This video took a turn of events I didn't expect yet was still amazed to see! The color appeared to act like a color fill put back the blue in your hair that was taken out of your ends when your hair was lifted to get you to a level 5-6 brown, thus bringing it back down to a universal black temporarily. I actually thought it was going come out bad since your brown ends are more neutral to cool rather than very warm and copper; I thought it might come out a murky brown color with some green tone to it. Blue shows up best on very light blondes levels 9-10.

Blue turns black over honey blue and orange hair you need light blonde hair. Purple would have showed up a little as it reacts well with orange and darker yellows.

I did the same thing but with permanent hair dye. I had my hair bleached to a honey blonde and then I added blue hair dye hoping to get a midnight blue and all I got was black hair that if in really good sunlight looks green...

Ah, I had that same thing. The way I got the value to show was with a second pass if the coloring conditioner. The first pass almost balances the color, the second pass intensified the blue for me and gave it that blue black look.

You may get blue by doing again. It’s worth a strand test. Your hair has to be dry, if it’s hard to take, leave in for an hour. Whatever color pigment you already have (like your brown which is made of red & green pigments) will effect how the blue will look. If you use the colors made for brown hair it may work better. I have used the pastel purple (clean air dried hair) left in for an hour and it strongly took, lasted for over a month. My friend tried it (brown & grayer hair) - no luck. Her hair is thicker, healthier, mine is fine & weaker. Hope you have better luck.

I think you should have put the color on dry hair; not washed hair. That’s what the packaging states anyway. Though I’m not sure that would have made a difference. Also the natural sunlight seems to show a lot of those dark shades on darker hair as highlights.

You should have used the "for brown hair " shade. Your dyed hair is literally brown. The "extreme" and "vibrant" lines are only for blond shades. Though midnight blue is probably not a color for hair darker than light brown imo when you consider color theory. You're better off with orange, purple, or red for brown hair.
