I used to believe in this very philosophy..years ago... when I used to do things "just to do them" or for the fun of it, or because I genuinely loved to do them, especially if it was work-related. Now, I've been sucked into the dreary meaningless existence as everyone else, because I needed to find work to 'pay the bills' (I'm trying to move out for the first time in YEARS and rent is $$$$!) and so what am I to do? Several days at work, I leave my job, and my heart's not fully in it - and I leave wanting more, like something is missing. I'm doing it for the money, on some level. And I'm just as lost, because I don't know what else to do - or moreso even, what else I can do, that I can do because I WANT to do it, not because 'I have to' or 'need to'... in order to 'live'. It must sound like crazy logic to a young child, and young children probably do seem confused by what many grown up adults and parents do for their daily lives, or their jobs... and there you can feel the soul-sucking drain of it all. And what we really need Andrew - is not just to be reminded of this - but help in actually finding WHAT in our lives will feel like play again? When you're so worn out from it all, and I'm only 38 - how do I find it again? Believe in it again? And actualize it in my life while I'm still living my 'boring life', surrounded by boring people, with meaningless conversations, going nowhere, achieving nothing, sparking nothing in my heart or soul. There must be a way...

Man I wish to have a sit down convo with you some day. This video says SO MUCH. I’ve always learned from my 4 year old, since the day he started to crawl. This makes SO MUCH sense!!! The question arises though… do we balance?? At what point do we have desires and start to map out plans and strategies? How serious and committed do we become to those plans and strategies?? Where do we draw the line between “living” for the sake of living and paying bills? 🤔

Child's subconscious "goal" is to get to know the new reality around them and to experience it, preferably from the good side. This is why children, especially younger ones are so intrigued and fascinated and happy when something new or entertaining happens. The problem is that the older we get, the more we get "bored" of day to day life... That is why people like holidays/vacation abroad or somewhere else than their usual home I guess... So, that they can change their environment for a certain period of time and experience something new, like a young child. ;)

The frustrating irony of the backwards law at play in life as always. Personally, I have trouble with seeming paradoxes and not clear-cut answers but that's what life is made of, a series of seeming paradoxes. The more you chase riches, the poorer you feel. The more you need meaning, the less you currently have. And on and on it goes. The trick is, and I'm still working on it, is to find a place in the middle of those paradoxes and just be.

Learn what sets you apart from others, find out your values, strengths and wants that'll suit a particular career, its never too late. (Enneagram and MBTI are good starting points to figure out such aspects as well as your motivations) Simply watching and following along with others, fuels the attachment to the desire of acquiring purpose when you view others as having one already, which is what keeps us stuck (as you may have took away from the video) All in all, it takes experience to figure things out and we're all going through that process together. So lets put of of this burden aside and do what we can to make it feel like play to untangle ourselves from needing to have purpose.

Finding meaning in life is like finding the meaning of a forest or the sea or a mountain. It has no intrinsic meaning, yet it has beauty and use and perhaps purpose. Your life doesn't need to have meaning or a reason. You just need to realise your attributes and see what you can do with them.

I completely agree with that… sadly, I don't manage to apply it 🤷♂️ Here's why… At the beginning of your life, you know/have lived "nothing"; so it's easier to enjoy simple things and discover new ones. With time, you become used to it and can become bored. And a major difference between a toddler and an adult, is that parents take care of the shitty parts (the main ones being money, legal and administrative tasks). The main problem I always have, as I'm not adapted to the way the world currently works[*], is that society forces me to do things I don't want to do before being able to do what I would enjoy… and that's if society allows me to even do that thing in the first place!
@ppolleunus2 жыл бұрын
(off topic, delete this if inappropriate… I've to express this 🙄😂) [*] The main reason being that the "money concept" (i.e. keeping accounts between us) is an archaic, obsolete, primitive way of living in society that blocks our true evolution… and that is the root cause of basically all the problems (created by human beings) (ask yourself enough why, thinking out of the box with an open mind). We have reach enough knowledge and technologies to make Earth an amazing life environment. It's time for us to reinvent society, from scratch, putting aside what exists and asking ourselves: With our current knowledge and technologies, if we wanted to create the best society we can, what would it be? And from there, we'll find how to do it… but it'll take several centuries… and therefore, we won't be there to enjoy it… but it has to be done, sooner the better!

It's funny how a meaningful life doesn't need to have a meaning. I liked how you transitioned from chasing higher productivity to living a more meaningful life. A similar transition I noticed in Nathniel Drew and myself. Sometimes I think I am privileged to just live without working. Like you, I am also working on my personal projects which is earning decent revenue (not vlogging or blogging). Life was chaotic but slowly I allowed myself to relax and enjoy the beautiful world. I slow down my work and started writing and reading more. I don't know where my life is going but you and Drew gives me hope that I am not alone in this. Thanks for sharing. What things or messages helped you slow down, relax, and enjoy the world?
@shubham53992 жыл бұрын
@@benjaminstephenson3814 I am a programmer and I was spending more than half of my waking time in front of a screen. So I took a break from that. By relaxing I meant doing nothing. Absolutely nothing. It's helping me reduce the constant buzzing of my mind. I always was a workaholic and it used to make me guilty even if I wasted a day binge watching Netflix or just sleeping. I realized I was a little harsh on myself. So, I just stopped chasing my goals, because no matter what, there's always going to be a next milestone. Slow down can mean differently to different people that's why I briefly shared my story here. I still have a lot to do but I am taking it slow. Taking life as a marathon and not a sprint. Make sense?

To be 100% honest I frankly believe the right for one to shed their mortal coil on dignified, painless terms should be a human right. Life is a human right. So to should be a Dignified Death. Not everyone HAS to find meaning or keep trucking. Frankly, I believe it is okay for people to decide "I dont want to do this anymore" and move on to the next world. Life, all of the universe is inherently, meaningless. Things only have meaning when we give them meaning based on what we say we want.

The meaning of life is serving our creator, Jesus Christ. Knowing the meaning of life is in the Lord gets rid of the burden of wondering about it all the time, while not running away from the fact that there truly is meaning. Living for Him and according to the individual plan He has for each of us, will provide the must fulfilling. He thinks of each of us and individually makes plans for us. Finding that plan and living it is the most purposeful life there is. 11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. If there is no meaning what keeps these individuals alive to reach the end of their expiration date into late or early adulthood depending on genetics and enviormental factors ? If there is no meaning why feel empathy when the young and helpless are stolen from their time and life on this planet is it just a sign of respect at this point ? Would this motion even render respect meaninglessness if it all falls to living simply b/c there is nothing else to do but to wait and die till we are eternally forgotten

For me I’ve identified: The meaning of life is to enjoy the passage of time and extend that to others. Just to clarify: Morality is a component to this, of-course. I’m not saying to help a criminal who enjoys criminal acts of violence. If enjoying the passage of time involves a victim, then that doesn’t work. The victim doesn’t enjoy the passage of time.
