Thank you so much for your honesty Holly. I’m really sorry to hear that you’ve been feeling sad. Your videos always take me on a rollercoaster of laughing out loud (to the point of people looking at me!!) to deep sadness at hearing your thoughts. I always love your videos and this one is really interesting. I love sea swimming (but the warm variety!!) Thank you for sharing and take care of yourself. With love Liz x

Thank you Holly! I am in year 2 of a 7 year PhD in art history, and I’ve been really trying to prioritize building a healthy relationship with my work in an industry built on academic exploitation. All of your content-even the non-specifically-phd stuff-has been beyond helpful in this journey. Thank you so much! I shall give these cold baths a try!

I'm so grateful for your lovely comment, Clarissa. Your remarks about academic exploitation resonate with me, too. My area of study, Irish music / children's oral music cultures can be tricky to navigate sometimes. We have to acknowledge what happened before us, do what we can to improve what we've been given the opportunity to improve, and recognise that we can't do everything, but we can do a lot of little things with care, sensitivity, and thought. Good luck with the cold baths. They're..... delightful?!!! I'd love to know where you are studying, if you're happy to share! X

@@HollyJaneYT yes this is so true! Your work sounds wonderful! I study the history art/science collaborations-so, artists working in laboratories, scientists who use art practices in their research, etc! Anyway, following along your journey has been such a help ❤️ thank you for the energy and time you put into these videos!

thank you so much for this video - you are normalizing all these topics that typically are kept "hidden" or people are ashamed of sharing. it really is so nice to know that other people go through hard stuff too...Huberman labs has a lot of stuff about cold water plunging - and I have started taking chilly showers at the end of my nice warm shower. it really does have an effect on me! keep on sharing!

Hmm, I've recently gotten into higher temp showers like 111 F or so. I'll have to give the cold a shot and see what that does for me. Thanks Holly , I like your style.

Thankyou for the video Holly, I was diagnosed with ASD/ADHD last year, and decided to take another crack at uni. I've been binge watching your recently discovered videos while I try and learn how to make my upcoming student life work. I never expected an ice bath video to be helpful, but given that before my diagnosis I spent most of my adult life dealing with depression and anxiety, I had never really understood how an ice bath would actually fit in. What I usually hear is people who 'have their shit together' giving a pretentious show of how they do this posh thing, but don't ever explain why. Thankyou! (FYI I'm sure you have your shit together but you don't come across as pretentious)
@HollyJaneYT Жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing a bit of your story, Loz. I actually don't have my shit together, but I have enough of it together that I get by, and I don't worry about the rest 😅 took me a while to learn that I actually don't have to have everything together. If i have the bare minimum together and my health and mind are in a good place, that's the win in my books. Hope study is going well! X

I started using an acupressure mat and man that pain is intense at the beginning. I had surgery on my back and my lung because of cancer and since then my upper back tends to burn like a mofo after a long day. That mat really helps me (and several of my friends as I now found out).

Oh, I've also heard great things about acupressure mats but haven't tried yet. Will defo give it some research!

I am so sorry, Holly, that you were in such a dark place, but I am happy to hear that you're on the way to get better. Thank you for your honesty and for sharing your journey with us! Not sure I'll become a fan of cold water though :D I do prefer my showers and baths hot (and I don't have an ocean nearby I could jump into). Very grateful for your channel though and keep up being you! All the best :) (P.S.: Loving your setup btw! All the plants and such are making it look super cozy!)

Hey lovely! Sorry it took me a hot minute there (sorry for the pun) to watch this video. I've been a bit overwhelmed and then really poorly, so I probably should have been taking cold baths! I remember being told years ago that cold showers/baths can help with lung strengthening and resistance to the common cold but not sure how accurate that is. We also used to take cold showers after karate training - which was always a shock to the system! You've inspired me to give it another bash though. Hope you're doing great and every day is a brighter one

@@HollyJaneYT no worries, totally understand! :) And yeah, give it a try. Definitely interesting stuff and despite the 'larger than life' persona (definitely physically speaking) that Chris Hemsworth represents, there's actually plenty of things that us 'normal' people can apply too or at least have a think about and adapt for our daily lives :)

You know what was even more shit!! 9th of November is my birthday. That whole day I was checking the polls. Trump won on my freaking birthday. I mean, that’s not worse than finding out you have cancer, but at the time I felt pretty bad 😂 I very much relate to all the mental health stuff. Glad you were able to go to the hospital in a time of need, being depressed to the point of suicidality is never easy. I’ve had it multiple times and now I’m on meds to keep those thoughts away. 👍🏻 I’m still not convinced about the cold water though 😂😂😂 it’s so not my thing. I like it in the summer to cool down. But no way am I going to do the baths lol. And yes. As a psychology student I’ve read the studies and I do understand what you read during the science intermission 😂😂
