Ideally you want to be breathing deeply and intentionally about a 30 seconds to minute plus before you plunge. Don’t brace against the cold. Welcome and except it peacefully. Relax into it as you breath deeply the entire time.

You need to move around in the water to disperse the "sheath" of warmth and get the full cold effect also. You decrease your exposure by not moving.

You did well. I've done cold plunges since the 70's because of martial arts/military training. Contrary to what some are saying, you do not want to induce hyperventilation before going near water. People die from that, and yes, you can drown in a barrel/tub/bathtub. Your method is perfectly fine. Forget the Wim Hoff/Tummo breathing techniques before getting into water. Even Hoff has changed his tune about this and is not saying he does not teach hyperventilation before cold plunges. One thing, you want to submerge your shoulders as well if you can. I go all the way under at first, but it's not necessary to get the results you are seeking. Well done!

You were in there for nearly 3 minutes just shy of three minutes. It took about 25 seconds to regulate your breath and then it wasn’t even a full minute from first getting in to total peace. WOW!! You are incredible and so inspiring, and you change so many lives including mine. My whole family is doing your hi5 have it with me for a week now and it is so simple yet HUGE!!

@markav2802 i started with cold showers and learned Wim Hoff breathing technique. Nevertheless, the first week was rough like anything new but once you get passed this it gets easier. One other thing I learned helps is the either dunk your head/splash water over your head seems to help me control my breathing much more timely. Good luck.

💙🧊 PROPS to 'Wim Hof' & Good for you Mel - you rocked that F'in Ice Water!! 🎉
@SilentRunningRedux
@SilentRunningRedux 14 күн бұрын
Yes. Spread the word, so Wim Hof followers are not the only ones made aware of how THIS works. I thought I hated the cold… I love it though have never been in colder water than an alpine point fed by a melting glacier. While I still live with extra heating, never use summer “air conditioning” and wear many layers in “wintry” weather, I recommend and use ice bathing in COLD especially to help manage serious PAIN. In addition comes RELAXATION, and even a moderate natural “high” (this stated by from someone who has only been high with exercise, or medical anesthesia by a legitimate able doctor).
@SilentRunningRedux
@SilentRunningRedux 14 күн бұрын
Sorry about the typos and missing but obvious word [“water”]. The discussion of urination is a bit excessive… the hormones and causes of urges to urinate or times we need to/ought to is much more biologically complex than Mel goes on and on about [scratching the surface and with theories some of which are contentious among biologists]..…*I really did just tune in for her “personal experience” with ice bathing/cold plunging*. *Loved the moment when sue transitions into a peaceful state…* ive never filmed myself or asked anyone else to film me, but this is how I probably would appear on camera, myself. Not quite so anxious at the prospect of getting in the cold iced water, myself, as I do anticipate the relief of pain thatr distracts me enormously, so I truly am anticipating feeling much better. Unlike with use of good “fairly safe” pain meds, the relief “only” lasts me a few hours, but that relief comes without any known negative side effects/unsafe aspects *for most people*. There is a role for medication [for pain] for sure, and not everyone may be able to safely do cold submerging, particularly at the coldest temps [ice baths similar to Mel Robbins’s, OR lying surrounded by/packed in ice with no insulation other than one’s own body]. Caveat: never push yourself too hard; listen to your own wise inner voice.

Yes I have a question, but probs asking too late for an answer..... I really want to do this as part of my morning routine, but I can only imagine it taking a long time to warm up, dry off and get dressed afterwards. What do you do straight after? Do you stay in wet clothes with a towel? Do you immediately strip off and then what? Towel dry? Wrap up in a dressing gown? Shower? Surely you can't get dressed into normal clothes while still so wet and cold? I'm really eager to have this figured out before i buy a plunge tub. Thank you for any responses! x

Thanks for the great lesson Mel....just one correction - Parasympathetic Nervous system causes bladder contractions and urination ( not the sympathetic nervous system).
@christophersmith3141
@christophersmith3141 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, and no. The sympathetic drive increases renal perfusion, which increases urine production. It is the urine production that ultimately leads to needing to pee. The parasympathetic upregulation allows the release of urine.
