Hey Sarah, I'm so happy to hear that you & Rue had a good stay at Wilson State Park! Thanks for the shout out at the beginning. I'm surprised there weren't more people. I love living by the Colorado mountains but I've had many nice experiences traveling across Kansas, great sunsets, nice dark sky at night for looking at the stars, some exciting storms and nice people. Looking forward to seeing the van. Cheers!

From a GrandMa-Bear Mace, get Bear Mace. I have a crazy young couple living next to me, who announced they are now the owners of a "vicious and aggressive" German Shepard. I have a 12 pound multi-poo, and I personally have health issues. This German Shepard could snap my dogs neck in 1 grab and shake. The police told me to get Bear mace. it will stop people, dogs, and yes, bears, dead in their tracks.Keep yourself safe-and legal!! Keep your cell phone on. Blessings to you. Sarah!! LOVE your channel!!

The key to successfully doing any type of camping is to anticipate one's needs and to accommodate them. Whether you wish to use down or an electric blanket, a car or a tent, it's all really the same in the end. Anticipate your needs and accommodate them in the most efficient way possible...because being out there is being comfortable yet flexible enough to effect your dreams. As a naturally-born survivalist, I tend to be a bit preachy about the necessity to accommodate one's need for comfort as the basis for being effective in whatever situation one may face.

People who want to be out there but ignore their needs are quickly subsumed by the vicissitudes of the journey.

Have you considered a spare tire carrier attached to the hitch receiver. Something custom so you can swing it away or let it pivot backwards so you can lift the hatch?.... than you can put a cargo carrier on top or a and clear out some living space area or add a kayak or awning or hell..... all 3... Just a thought. Plus it would be easier to take the spare down if you need it.

who would have thought - Kansas. I loved your video because it reminded me of my travels through Oklahoma with my huskey / boxer. Seeing your dog on the lake made me smile. The cuddle pic was my fav. Regarding food and bears- hang it on a tree away from your car. Try to cook away from your car. Thank you❤

May I suggest Stockton Lake in Missouri for camping. And Bear safety is a serious issue. I was pretty nonchalant about bears until I came across one on a hiking trail one day. I now observe all the bear safety suggestions.😅

Speaking of bears. An Alaskan saying states, if a leaf falls in the woods, the deer will hear it, the hawk will see it and the bear will smell it.

Hello Sarah! You are a better woman than I. I moved into my van @ 2 weeks ago + a few days ago, going from a 5th wheel. I am questioning my sanity & if this was the way to go. I’m thinking this may be the end. So, hope your van life will be great. Safe travels. 😊

Sarah, I am struggling with the need for an Anker Power Station for car camping or anything else really. My questions revolve around, if you're driving all day and things are plugged into the car, what do you use power for other than coffee in the morning? I'd love a breakdown on the value of having it along. Thanks!

I've been thinking about getting a Jeep Grand Cherokee whenever I get a new (whether "new" period or "new" to me). And there's a decent chance I'll be doing this at some point. Either a Grand Cherokee or a van of some sort. But I was curious about your sleep situation in your vehicle here. I couldn't really tell but did you have the back seats removed altogether or were they just laying flat?

I hope you saw the World's Largest Czech Egg while in Wilson! First time out in my van a raccoon got on the roof and began trying to pry the vent lid off to get in. Smart critter for sure. Pretty sure it had done this many times before. Anyway, I worry far more about the little guys than I do the bears. You'll be cooking in your van so it's going to smell tasty no matter what you do. Keep bear spray handy and be prepared to drive away. I've read bears (and raccoons) are more likely to do this sort of thing at campgrounds and trailheads as they learn the behavior over time. Maybe we're better off camping where fewer people have been.

So I came across your video and I do have a question so I am living an SUV life with a dog and I wanna know some good places to rest overnight without any issues I recently had an issue with Lowe's they saw me in the parking lot literally announced on the intercom also using a siren and calling out my vehicle telling me that it is closed and that I need to leave the premises or they will call the police. I was just getting out my car fixing some thing on the window so what other free areas I am in New Orleans Louisiana that you can rest overnight without dealing with cops, foolishness like that?

Wow! Love you’re attitude! But, I am glad you shared the company doing your Van Conversion. Because I will NEVER use them. OMG how long they are taking! Feels like they have taken you hostage. Hopefully they will do a great job on the conversion. But, the time they are taking is extreme. 💁♂️ good luck. 👍🍀

Bear security. Well, I've never had a bear problem, but I've never camped out west. Out east, I have had racoon problems, and it was pretty much always when I did something stupid like not storing pre-made food properly. Out east, hanging your food will solve almost all racoon issues...and then bears shouldn't even be a realistic thought. Bear issues, even out west, are actually rather rare (and even in Alaska, which I'll get to). You're chances of being attacked by a bear are insignificant. That's not to say that it can't happen to you, but in all of these situations, camp hygiene is the best defense. I imagine that most people who have bear problems have significantly lapsed in camp hygiene. Like cooking a bunch of meat and dumping grease around camp. I once spoke to a person who had had bear problems while camping in rural Maine, and she said, "I feed the bear fish scraps, but I didn't understand why later it was pounding on the door, trying to get in the house." I strongly believe that most bear issues come from people doing exceedingly stupid things, so if you're reasonable (like not feeding the animals) bear problems become even more unlikely than are statistically presented. But, I have done a good deal of research about bear security in Alaska, and that's the place where you're most likely to have a problem. And typical hygiene shouldn't be depended upon in Alaska (Canada too, but I'm from the US) One must remember that the further you are from civilization, the more the animals are in control. So let's talk about bear security in Alaska as sort of the zenith of what may happen. Bear (electric) fencing, which can be quite portable, is the ultimate defense in my opinion. Research has shown that bear fencing is a very effective counter-measure. It would be possible to transport bear fencing for an SUV, but I say that considering how uncommon bear attacks are statistically (especially in the lower 48), I would just depend on the vehicle itself to protect me. It's pretty unlikely that a bear could actually intrude into your Jeep and harm you. Not impossible, but VERY unlikely. A bear could scare the hell out of you and damage your vehicle but not very likely harm you. In the actual instance of a bear attack, bear mace, flares, and even fireworks are usually quite effective. With an RV, so long as you aren't camped in one place for a long time, motion activated lights both alert you and repel bears, but research shows that stationary motion-activated lights can be ignored by bears as they learn to ignore them (once the lights turn on a few times and they come to no harm).
