Cover the roof so the work you already did stays good, set up a tent inside to stay, and work on the garden and landscaping for videos until you get approved. We'll still watch the videos. You have an amazing personality and good vision to go along with your artistic nature. Don't lose hope!! We're all sending you good vibes!! 👍💜

Yes above all don't lose hope! Secret of success if constancy of purpose - that is the saying that drove me on in building my dream log lodge on a remote island. I can fully relate to your dream home. HOPE IS NOT A STRATEGY - have a strategy - use your amazing vision to foresee a positive outcome - expectation! Good luck you deserve it both of you! :-)

Put a plywood roof on the house over the rafters to help protect what you have. Pitch your tent inside the house & work those gardens for free food, in the meantime fight for your right to continue building. And film making those gardens. I believe this is your best option for now. And you are there to keep anyone from destroying your beautiful home while nyou try to get permission from the counsel to continue. The land owner (your friend) will help you keep your dreams alive & help you fight the courts to continue. I eish our voices could help also. Until you get your approval, we will watch the gardens grow.

Unfortunately, the need to control others and gather authority and power is strong in some. To be clear, this is SPAIN we are talking about? The same Spain which eradicated entire civilizations in the past in order to plunder their wealth? Now they are concerned about not having government permission to do something? The Mayans and Incas would have probably liked the same consideration regarding THEIR lands...

That is the approach that I was thinking also. Spain is the home of Pablo Picasso, who is widely regarded as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. There must be a way to apply for a hearing for a consideration of exemption. Tell them that it will only be used as an art studio, and not be used as a residence, and that you won’t ever even have a bed inside it. The main thing is to find a way to preserve your work, and hopefully finish it eventually. If it was mine at this point, I would go back as soon as possible, with a helper, with about 20 gallons,..(whatever it takes)..of paint or varnish, to coat the wood of the roof framing. At the stage where it is, you might even ask the property owner if they would agree to just call it an outdoor barbecue/dining area. At the very least it should be preserved for something like that. Don’t give up on it, there’s time, if you can develop a good relationship with the people who deal with it at the city/county office that handles it.

@@Dakiniwoman Yes, but I have been ordered, by a notoriously overzealous building inspector, to have a similar size building torn down on my property. If I had totally panicked, I could have just followed his baseless orders. Without going through details, my situation had more differences than similarities to this, but it is true that wherever the situation is, there will be people who are reasonable, but usually it’s the minority who complain, and are against new ideas. I’m just saying that with the extraordinary work that Huub invested in his project, it is worth trying to be equally creative and relentless in exploring everything that can be done to at least preserve his existing accomplishment.

At the very least, in the meantime, while you wait to proceed legally, protect what you have built. Cover as much as possible with tarps. Try asking if you can protect the roof structure by adding a heavy-duty tarp that is substantially secured from wind to further protect what is under the roof structure from the elements. At least until you possibly can continue. Cover the window and door openings with tarps. Ask the authorities if you can do this to forestall any weather damage to what you have built.

I will keep you in my positive thoughts and prayers, that you win, and get to continue....take still shots, as well as, continue videoing of all stages and details, of everything; this documents all that you have done, that is secure and sound on the structure. If you know of any trusted carpenter, &/or contractors who can give you honest answers, about what inspectors would check, to complain about, it might help, with completion, and hopefully, you can get an accepted stamp of approval, and just pay fines and taxes. As long as the abode continues to prove to be sound of foundation, and all total of structure is weather safe, and built, to be safe, & functionable for health regulations , as with plumbing, septic system,( such as distance, from potable water sources, etc. & other owner's potable water sources, and septic systems,)l think you should be allowed to continue! There needs to be adjustments to the laws, in a lot of counties, states, and countries. Wishing you safety, good health, and some miracles, to let you continue to finish your unique creation, an get to enjoy living there. Hopefully, a petition signed by a lot of people can help, and hopefully people, in various fields of legal matters, can find a way to help you win🤗😉 oh yeah, keep duplicates of all your photos and videos, locked up safe in a trusted place, or with a trusted fire & flood safe box/ vault; where it can be a documented back-up 😉

First off what you have done looks amazing, and as a retired builder you did a good job. Unfortunately their is a conscious reality that we share with others that don't see the world as we see it. I've lived off grid for over 10 years now, and can say that in America things are pretty much the same, when it comes to keeping a low profile. To complete a project as such, it's not the best idea to make KZbin videos about the project. It's attracts attention that is not always in your best interest. Of course, it doesn't mean they're the most qualified or have the best character or that their objective is to do the best job for the general population. The democratic process is very difficult because it requires the people in the general population to carefully examine a candidate's record, knowledge level, and character before we vote and then to continue to monitor their performance and remove under-performing officials. We have to do this at the city level, county level, special districts, state, and federal levels. That's a LOT of work for people who just want to earn a living and kick back and rest once in a while. Too many people think they've done their civic duty by simply voting. There are actually several places in the US that you can build without a permit, especially if the area is under a certain amount of square footage. Furthermore, I have personally overseen several builds that started without a permit and were later able to get one and then continue building. This situation is very sad that they are not allowing people to build on their own property because a company did illegal business. In essence punishing everyone. Very sad indeed.

This might sound crazy, but I’ve had a overbearing nitpicking neighbor too. Turns out she was just really lonely. Maybe you can find out why this neighbor is against your project. Maybe it’s jealousy bc their house needs work, or they feel like you shouldnt get something for nothing. Sometimes talking to them and helping them relieves their anger. I’m not saying this will work for your situation, but there is something to the old proverb, kill them with kindness. Nobody likes being an a**hole to a good person.
@uski
@uski 3 жыл бұрын
Sometimes it is more complex. For instance maybe a neighbor wants to sell their property soon and for some reason assumes that the value of their property is going to get diminished if someone lives nearby. Some people also like the feeling of power, whatever it takes to get it, including being extremely annoying to others. Others might have been blocked in their projects due to the same laws before, respected them, and don't want to have a neighbor that doesn't, it seems unfair to them. Plenty of reasons (good or bad, I'm not saying). PS: I just read that Huub is not a local. Some locals don't like strangers, this is valid everywhere, sadly. I can absolutely imagine a local doing this just because it's a stranger

I’d add removable wool stuffed canvas panels (like for yurts) in the missing wall gaps that are clamped in place and tie a canvas roof and totally move in. Use yurt type padded rugs for over the rafters for temporary insulation (with luck become permanent later) Clip in windows and a retracting spring hinged door. All extras should be nail and screw free, easily removable and weather proof when in use. An added project could be the construction of these pads using discarded clothing which is how furniture removalist blankets are sometimes made. The addition of dense wool felt or canvas to the weather side of these rugs should render them weather proof.

Central planning committee's members are usually middle class people who can't conceive that anyone would want to live in or have to live in low cost housing. They pass laws and require people to get their permission to build even a dog house. The end result is that its simply not possible build your own home which is within your means, on your own land, unless you are a middle class person. This is because its illegal to build a low cost house almost anywhere you go. Isn't it convenient that the middle class folks only have to live next to other middle class folks because of the laws and regulations and financial firewalls put in place by the middle class central planning committees. What about people in the lower income brackets? Oh, thats right, they aren't allowed to live anywhere anymore are they? Or they have to work two or three jobs just to make rent each month. Hmmmm... do you think that these housing regulations and beaurocracies might have an alterior motive behind them besides safety? Hmmmm.

I felt your disappointment, however, I also felt your positivity in the face of adversity. Way to go! Awesome job! You are an awesome human. These things have a way a figuring themselves out. I saw all of the hard work you put into it. It was beautiful looking at it, as you were speaking. ....maybe, you can design and build them for other people as well.

I feel for you sir, I live in California...built a tiny home on a trailer...lived in it for 3 months and was told I could not do so any longer and was forced to sell it. Society has decided that they cannot allow people to live outside of the norm, and so they force themselves and their opinions on everyone. The county I live in would rather I live homeless than in a beautiful home with a carbon footprint that is less than...well that of your average homeless person. I wish you luck sir, your build is beautiful.

It is so stupid when people are envy or jealous, they try to stop your success and achievements. Remember how strong your are, I am architect my suggestion for you is to do a nice cover ( instead of roof/ Water can damage your building) with tarp or plastic and wait for a while to get everything legal. Good luck and be positive.

Yeah i was think the same. Something more rigid such as corrugated fiberglass or polycarbonate. This could by applied with screws and would be easy to remove when necessary.

So sorry bro! It’s the same everywhere! I’m in Norfolk, Virginia. So sad we had a neighbor who bothered everyone with the police for dumb reasons, too. Where you park you car (legally, but he no like it), if you car have the right stickers (we had a friend visiting from a state that doesn’t require stickers), if you have a fire pit in your yard (the fire chief declared ours legal and he got talked to for complaining too much)… aye aye aye. Sorry to say people found out he passed and were relieved to park on the street by my house! No hassle. Smh What you have built is so awesome!!!!! I hope you can finish it after 6 months.

You have so much to offer the world... look at what you have just accomplished! Yes, you are being forced to take a break now... But... find another project that interests you in the interim... then come back to this masterpiece when it is approved. Maybe for you, this is a lesson in patience? By the way, your house just makes my heart dance.

I'm so sorry to hear all this. I live in Southern California USA. My brother is a structural engineer and works for one of the larger cities in Los Angeles and I can totally sympathize with you it is crazy what one person can get away with doing another person cannot. Please wait and work on it again in a few months. Prayers for your success. 💪🙏💖🌹🙋‍♀️

Hi from Australia, I have followed your video, you have done a fantastic work of Art. I have a little property in Portugal and the administration (Camara) is also very complicated with buildings without authorization, like you said even if it is in the middle of nowhere it is stupid. You have been incredibly inspiring, first by your inovations and the will and power of your strength. Please don't let them distroy your beautiful place, just wait a while and try to find a way to have a project made by an architect and to be ligalised. Each time I am watching a video of someone incredible like you building something different there is a nasty neighbor doing evil things to talented people like you for reference if you have time watch the two first year in making of "my self resilience" in Canada Shawn James incredible talented, similar problems he and his family were harassed and abused by his neighbor he had to move away. Keep up the good spirit and be patient but don't drop your project it is one special out of everything we see. Cheers.😊

Cover the roof with a strong tarp - something strong enough to protect hay through the winter. In the meantime, until you get approved, you can build a 16x16 "storage building" set up on blocks. You can insulate it and camp in it for a year... and once you get approved, finish out your house... and then sell the moveable storage building.

Try to not think of this as "stopping" but only an "adjustment in your focus" and turn your attention and work to other things on the property, and enjoying your progress as it is now. Clean up your work area, organize things, groom the land around your house, begin a garden, take extra things you don't need to someone else to use, make some lunch, sit and listen to the birds, read some books while sitting in your house as it is now. Enjoy your progress and give it some time to see if you do get permission to continue with your build further...
