One word; astonishing! Following a knee injury in my early teens, I have never felt "right" when on a bicycle. Constant pain in both knees (I suspect one is compensating for the other) and at the end of a ride I had aches and pains in all sorts of places. I got to point where I just gave up, and haven't ridden a bicycle in years. Having seen this, I might get back in the saddle and go and speak to someone who knows what they're doing; I really miss cycling.

@user-tz9jh6pv2j Жыл бұрын
Aside from doing this, you should see a Physical Therapist who knows what they're doing in terms of sports and athletics. I also had a knee injury that stopped me from cycling for many years. Visiting multiple PT visits was of no avail. It was when a friend (who is a semi-pro cyclist), recommended a PT that her team is associated with, that I got the proper help. Helped work on hip mobility and strengthening the hip and ankles which alleviated much of my knee pain. That and getting a better fit helped tremendously.

Get a fit!!! Most bicycle shops have an option to get a professional fit. They are a life-changer. Even if it isn’t as in-depth as this, simple measurements can be amazing! I was having horrible knee pain, so bad I thought I tore something, but it turned out my bike was just improperly fit. 30 minutes later, I was almost pain free. Still had to do a bit of tweaking, but it was such a vast improvement I couldn’t believe it.

It is sumply amazing...I have been suffering from l hip/low back/buttock pain on the left side for 2 years now, went through few physio, doing compensation excersises, stretching etc, but nothing has helped so far...I think it is because of wrong, unhealthy position on my bike that has caused all these issues...I would love to have this guy helping me with the bike fit, he is great...unfortunately I am based in Czech...good luck and wish many miles on your bike
@cuebj2 жыл бұрын
@@jirinekuza8995 There are books and videos that are clear and helpful. One problem is affording modifications such as stem, cranks, saddle, shoes. Far too expensive to buy to try. That's where a pro shop with adjustable static frame & video helps. After smashing my right foot, I can't quite get my fit right and do need a pro fit but can't justify cost as retiree. Probably always needed wedges on pedals to cater for bowed legs below knees. Now I'm old and creaky, I need a less aggressive position. But my bikes are just about right and I've helped scores of people feel better on their bikes

Don’t know why, but this makes me so happy right now. I’m a non-pro bass player and lean more towards MTB, so kind of symmetrical to your guitar-road cycle-thing, if that makes any sense. I wish you all the happiness and relief through your adjusted bike.

Tremendous. This was so inspiring to me. I have had bike fits done over many years and experienced the 'aha' moments and the 'click' into place moments when the fit is right. One thing to consider.. as I've aged, I have changed.. and therefore so has my fit. I am a bit old, tired, and inflexible now compared to my 20-30 yr old self. Every new decade gets harder. All that said.. my point: Get a fit at least every 5 years. :) It's nice to have a 2nd opinion. Oh, and get a fit from someone that analyzes you like James... or uses Steve Hogg methods.. Basically, it's important they are really optimizing YOUR hips, knees, neck, etc. and not just fitting you to some target. That was the old style... but it's still prevalent in the local bike shops near me.

Whether or not you get, faster or an increase in power the most important factor to come out of a bike fit is comfort. The more comfortable you are more you will likely want to ride more . I do ride and have had several bike fits, including recently as I have had to change the saddle, due to pain and pressure sore. I currently ride a 2016 Trek Domane, with Ultegra group set, and for pedals I use speed play pedals ( dual sided entry) .

The funny thing is, he didn't had to change much on the bike. Basically, you can remember... Move the stem further up, cleats as far back as possible, reduce saddle height by 1 - 2 cm, put a narrower handlebar (with possibly less reach) on the bike and maybe choose a narrower saddle.

The problem: does the fitter fit bike for you or try to fit you to a formula. There are two distinct shapes for road racing bikes: weight forward, high saddle, toes down; or weight back, lower saddle, heels down. From there, the fine adjustments flow. Aggressive riding position appears standard for bikes now - sold with high saddle, low bars like time trialling crit racers. But we're not all break away TdF pros. Some of us are old and less flexible than in youth. Look at photos of Eddie, Anquetil, etc. Saddles were far closer to top tube even allowing for horizontal and sloping frames. Bar tops were much higher in relation to saddle but the drops were greater - we used the Cinelli deep drops, sometimes for hours. High saddle, low bars is much less safe in traffic. Pros are racing on closed roads with other pros - and still crash due to not looking ahead. I see riders near me with extreme positions that are unsafe: weight over bars affects steering and what they can see - so they go surprisingly slowly and wobbly in town. If I can save up, I will try to get a fit from this guy

I made adjustments to my road bike over a 3 yr period after listening to James on Francis Cade's YT channel when he did Bike Fit Tuesdays (never filmed on a Tuesday lol). James is probably one of the most knowledgeable bike fitters because he's not loyal to a brand, only what works. He looks at a problem from every aspect. I would love to get a fit in person, but England is a bit too far away, but the adjustments I have made due to the information James puts out, have made my bike a better fit overall.
