@RunFor OurLives thats totally wrong cos it also depends on the Country you are living in and you cant always take the world stage as a comparison, period. In greece you kill 'em all with 2:17 and still go to the Olympics. In Romania and many other countries as well . And they are still considered elite and take part in world Championships cos they ARE the best of the best meeting the very best of the top.

I truly enjoy your videos as they show a ton of class, guts, and character. How many folks open up their lives, dreams, and goals to probably millions and then lay it on the line for everyone to see? I chuckle at the folks who criticize for they have no idea what a challenge it is to compete at your elite level. On a humanistic level and hopefully many folks will see deeply enough into your commentary to get it, your description of your goals, training, and achievement (or not) is actually a metaphor for life itself. Every one of us has dreams and goals, many of us work toward them, and often we fall short. However, in the effort we are better than had we not challenged ourselves. Sadly many don't even attempt to attain their goals and remain stuck at much less than their capabilities.

Mate, don’t be disappointed with that run. 2:23:36 is incredible! That’s a average pace of 3:24/per/km! Mate that’s awesome! Don’t be down about that run, because you can always come back stronger and better. Keep training and don’t feel disappointed, just think that: 1) you’ve completed a marathon coming in 17th place with an average pace of 3:24/per/km. And 2) if you keep training and keep staying motivated you’ll be able to reach your goal. Sage, been watching your videos for about a week, and you’ve been able to get me back motivated in my running and feeling pretty confident my running. So don’t feel down, but also thanks for all the motivation and great videos. Thanks to you I’ve gotten back feeling excited, motivated and confident in my training, running and eventual goal of running a half-marathon by the end of the year with an average pace of 5:00/per/km or under without stopping and in the next couple of years to run a marathon! Cheers Sage and congrats on the run! (Copenhagen is incredible isn’t it? I loved it when I was able to go there for a holiday) Cheers and again, Congrats on the Marathon

You're an inspiration. I've had trouble recommitting to running since the Boston Marathon. I PR'd in those terrible conditions but have had numerous lingering issues and I haven't felt good since a week before Boston. Even though it was a nice PR it was also much slower than I think my fitness was with peak mileage around 110 while working full time. I have a long term goal of OTQ that given my progression with less than 2 years of serious running could start to be in the realm of possibility if I keep up with the consistency and mileage while staying healthy. This video has given me a boost and I'm looking forward to my run after work.

Dear Sage. I follow you for the last 2-3 years. You are a very honest and real person and i appreciate that very much. YOU DO NOT NEED to explain to any of us way/how things get wrong. they just do. You do an amazing job, and i think that by over "explaining" your failures, you sell your self short to your self (being too focus on your mistakes could be somewhat putting you down) It's not that i shy away from honesty and introspect, but some time less is more. It's perfectly OK not reaching what you expected , this happen, as long as you did your work honestly and diligently. Lots of love Success, Peace and harmony.

Hey Sage, I've just recently started to watch your videos and all I can say is that I enjoy your easy way to explain things and your approach to the sport. I manage to run 4 to 6 days a week and between 12 to 16 km. Never competed in a race. But I like the sport because it gives me plenty of satisfaction on so many levels. But mainly when I go out running whether I run 10 km or 16 km all I'm thinking about is taking that next step. I don't run because I want to win. I run because I simply love it. So my dear Sage just keep running. If you love running, winning a race is just the cherry on top. Congrats on your valiant effort. Keep healthy and keep smiling.

Much Respect Sage, i just ran my first half (thanks for all the tips, vids etc on your channel btw!) and anyone that dares to critique anything about your results clearly isnt a runner...and trust me, you showing "failures" makes us the amateurs, recreational runners feel closer to you, the elite just because of the human experience that endurance runs are all about!!! we all sweat, get tired, think about a lot of things when pain hits our body, and yeah, once the run ends we get inspiration, be it of a PR or a below expectations run...so, thank u for sharing this, your world and your love for the run

Cameron McKinney I am too busy working on dunking a basketball from the free throw line, then after that I have to try and hit a baseball 450 feet with a wood bat first. Kidding, but I am a bit busy with work and family life to train for anything more than health. I run 15 miles a week if I am lucky. Do not want or care to train for elite status, but just think it would be interesting to see a POV shot of what it’s like to be an elite performer in any sport. For example, I make really good money, but one time saw a bank receipt next to the atm that read a savings account balance of over $900,000. It was fun to see the receipt and kind of imagine what it’s like to look at your account with that much liquid funds.
