You're great Sage and most people who would do half as good as you did would get a lot of praise and attention. You put yourself out there and expectations are high for you. As a result, you open yourself up to criticism. I feel like in this video you spent too much time trying to defend yourself. Focus on the positives and ignore the haters. You're living the dream, enjoy it.

Hi Sage, You are a great runner and you are putting your best effort in every race you run, there's no way for you to blame yourself! You don't have to be sorry to not get your goal, everytime you not get them it's a failure for yourself and from the time you do your best to try to achieve your challenges thats the most important thing! Be so proud for what you do, in most of the cases a lot of people wish to you waht you do in all those races, for example myself, your are an example for a lot of people. As you know too, being honest with yourself, you are trying to beat the TOP guys from all over the world, there's soooooo much people preparing for these races, for what I know and I would like to run in one day, Zegama and Mont-Blanc are two of the best races in the Trail Running World. GIVE YOUR BEST EFFORT IN EVERYRACE AND HAVE FUN DURING THE PROCES! All my best for your next goal! I'm sure you are going to achieve it !!

Sage, be kinder to yourself, both physically and mentally. Enjoy what you do, enjoy the journey and don't focus so much on the result or destination. There is no failure, only failure to try. Our greatest successes are often found in helping others succeed, and you are doing exactly that, whether it's getting someone off the couch to walk or run around the block or for them to reach their own goal. Times and distances will soon be forgotten but experiences will remain forever. I have been running for a long time, my body isn't what it used to be and now my only goal is to be able to keep running for as long as I can, until one day I won't be able to. Thanks for the video's, good luck in the future for your running and non-running life.

Congratulations Sage for having the guts to run this incredibly hard race even though you knew you’re mountain-legs aren’t quite ready yet. The word “excuses” is miss-used a lot when it comes to running. I don’t think those are excuses. I think you are analyzing and dissecting your performance and you are really getting deep into all the factors that come into play before and during a race. It is a great way to learn about and from ourselves. You are amazing and we would never dare to judge you! Keep working hard! We’ll do the same. Cheers! 🍻 (now back to listening to coach Sandi! You are surrounded by love Sage. Always, Efren. : ) … P.S. At the Boston Marathon, the race officials took me out at mile 23 for severe hypothermia - my body temp was 80 degrees. @sejmb6 жыл бұрын
I think the differentiation you're looking for: you are giving reasons your race wasn't ideal, many of which you own as being within your control. The excuses we stigmatize are excuses that people pretend are out of their control, but they could actually influence; and the excuses that are immediate but ignore long-term factors. Eg: it wasn't my fault, they didn't have good food the night before. You owned you were mostly training road race style, and yes it's logical to connect that impacted your climbing legs.
@rvtBC6 жыл бұрын

Any surface any distance in someway is self sabotage but we do it because we love it. In the past year I have race a fast mile (and did some mile specific training) raced 4 trail races going all the way up to 100 miles and ran Boston. I could have done better at any of these if I didn't work on all of these. But I like to mix it up. In the next year I am looking for a PR in a fast 1/2 marathon course and I am looking to run the Black Canyon 100k. My 100k may suffer a little as I change gears late in the calendar year, it is the nature of the beast.
@RockStarRunner6 жыл бұрын
Hey Sage - I'm not sure whether it meets OTQ standards, but one smaller marathon you might consider is Myrtle Beach. It's flat and in early March, when the weather should be pretty consistent. I had hoped to BQ there a year ago, but ended up with 3 runner's knees in a row and had to back out, but it seemed like a good course. I believe it was in the high 30s for the start of the race that year, which is just about perfect. You probably wouldn't have the advantage of much of a pack to run with, and I'm sure the prize money, if there is any, isn't much.

What are your androgens and other hormone levels like? I don't remember them when you spoke about your labs in the past. I said this earlier if you saw: but I think you should take a year off MUT to get the OTQ. it's only one year...
@tc-36 жыл бұрын
Getting an OTQ is a personal goal of his. Besides that, he's a sponsored mountain trail runner. Also, he says he enjoys running trails a lot, so why abstain from something that brings him joy. Furthermore, he's more competitive in mountain trail running so he has a bigger chance of winning prize money and as we know, Sage is a professional runner and part of his income comes from placing well in bigger, more competitive races. All things considered, MY OPINION is that he should focus on mountain trail running and still chase an OTQ as his personal, selfish (in Sage's own words) goal on the side.
@againstdrivingdrunk6146 жыл бұрын
Why: Road race vs Trail race and time for development. A lot to be said. Road is a different stimulus/training progress than trail, and I think one road race cycle is not enough time to build up an OTQ
@bronconv6 жыл бұрын
Rational reasons why your race didn't go as well as you liked isn't an excuse, it's the reason the why. Although the timing wasn't right you really can't miss a chance to run Zegama. Sage, you spent ~25% of this video making excuses, and apologizing, and apologizing for making excuses about a race result that nobody here cares about (obviously as fans of yours we like to see you do well, but if anyone is angry at you for NOT then they need to check their priorities (and check their head while they're at it because that is downright ridiculous)). I'm 100% certain that NOBODY is subscribed to your channel to listen to you apologize for five minutes. That's not good content. I was actually hoping there might be more information about Zegama, honestly. More specifics about the race, how you felt at certain points, where you felt strong and where you felt weak, other runners, even information about your time in Spain-the culture, etc. And hell, if you feel the need to excuse yourself on camera at least edit it out before you upload it to youtube. Thank you, in general, for your channel and the mostly pretty excellent content, though.
