The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul Tremblay (soon to be the movie Knock at the Cabin by M. Night Shyamalan) is an incredibl American horror novel about faith versus indoctrination.

YES!! I also wasn't that scared by Head Full of Ghosts, but Cabin at the End of the World was so nerve-wracking and shocking. LOVED it.

I actually just finished this one as well. It was in my TBR for a while, and when I saw the trailer for the movie adaption, I immediately moved it to the top of my list to make sure I got it out of the way before the release. I really enjoyed this one, and I’m excited to watch the film!

Watched this the day it was posted. Next day bought it. I’m 3/4 of the way through and loving it and really wanted to finish it last night but fell asleep one the couch after work lol. I can’t wait to finish this tonight. Thanks for the rec!

i just reread this in preparation for the adaptation and i loved it even more the second time. the tension is just immaculate. i also agree that the trailer gives away more than i’d like, i feel like it’s best to go into it (the book at least) knowing very little.

Watching your shorts and videos, my reading list is growing exponentially!! I already have over a thousand books downloaded and am currently re-reading two of my favorites A children's war by j.n.stroyer and The Plague by Albert Camus. With these two additions by Paul Tremblay (as of yet, I haven't finished watching THIS video, there may be more recommendations), my reading list is ridiculous 😂. I love your recommendations, you're so thorough in your reviews even on shorts. Thank you so much!! ❤️

I'm really glad I quickly scrolled past the trailer for Knock at the Cabin when it popped on social media early. Looks like I managed to avoid anything that would be a spoiler since I only registered Dave Bautista talking to some tied up people. I'll be careful now I know it might spoil some things

I also love American Gothic/Horror set in New England in the States. In thinking about history, it is the oldest part of America from the perspective of who settled there from other countries in the 1600's. I believe this helps to give it it's own unique set of charms. By the way, I also enjoyed the reader contribution/recommendation for "Hench" at the end of this video. Thanks for connecting the new movie with this book. I hadn't realized that when I seen the trailer recently. Time to read the book. You are a gem!

I saw the trailer and was sold on the movie… didn’t even realise it was a book! Glad you enjoyed it though, so I might have to check it out. I already have too many books on my bedside cabinet waiting to be read because of you though 😂

Just an FYI, Shamalan movies can be really hot or miss so make sure you read the reviews before you go see it. I'm talking feast or famine hit or miss.

Willow you are so beautiful 😭 I saw the entire trailer already. I really don't mind spoilers though, so it's not a problem for me. I actually forgot to read this when it was released, but I'll get to it asap. Btw I've been listening to a podcast called Sounds Like a Cult. I've learned a lot from it :)

Great review. I love popular fiction that manages to say something about society and medium it exists within. Read A Head Full of Ghosts recently and thought that did exactly that, so looking forward to trying this too

I LOVE this book! i listened to the audio and it was scary on such a different scale then most horror books I've read. I hope the movie will do a good job and they do have great actors in it so fingers crossed! Another American kind of gothic book you may like is The Elementals by Michael McDowell. it's an older book. Very atmospheric and almost suffocating. if that makes sense.

I don’t think I really get thrillers and horror as a literary genre. I read this because of the central couple being Gay and the movie coming out and while it was fine I ultimately didn’t find it unnerving or scary and my interest was flagging by the end. It might work better for me as a movie, visuals are a much more powerful element for me when it comes to horror then reading it on the page. I think there’s just to much distance between the reader and the action, and you can stop instantly by disengaging and go back later. In a movie in a movie theatre the film keeps rolling regardless of what you want and seems to be more in control. Anyways, last year I read Leave the World Behind, which has a similar premise. Family at a remote vacation rental house, strangers show up trying to convince them to let them in and something sinister is happening out in the world that they’re getting very little information about. It was much more intense and horrifying, especially on a psychological level for me. I think they are making a movie of it too. I also read A Children’s Bible around the same time, which is similar as well, but where the kids take the lead and are much more proactive, which was an interesting take. Both were much more literary then the mainstream Cabin.

Hi Willow! First, I simply I cannot trust M. Night Shyamalan ever again after Old!😂 I simply cannot! I was curious about this book years ago but never got around to it, but you’re making me want to give it another shot. What did you think of the ending given the theme of faith? It got spoiled for me some time ago and I just lost interest with the ending, but I’m curious about an alternative view. Hope all is well!😊

Hi I am new to your channel and could really use your help please. I need the name of a newer female science fiction author who writes a series of books set in the future about space mining. One her characters is in the military. This video of the author talking popped up when I was doing searches on The Expanse series which her books are similar to the same concept. Any idea who this author is and her books names? I would love to read them. Hope to hear back from you.

I saw the film yesterday and finished the book on Thursday. I really, really didn't appreciate the changes and specially the ending. I haven't got that triggered in the beginning but I started watching some of the reviews I've been ignoring and there was this one comment in which a girl explained how this reinterpretation made her feel as a gay person and it got me boiling. I think I'm done with Shyamalan.

did not enjoy this one. thought it would be weirder... but it felt too basic christian nonsense to me. the potential hate crime aspect didnt feel scary at all as a gay man, and once you see what It is... it... just stays that way thru till the end. it never develops anymore. it just keeps going with no surprises. disappointing
