For some strange reason, this reminds me of What’s My Line, exact same play.

I remember I’ve Got A secret with Gary Moore but not with Steve Allen - couldn’t figure out why! Then I went back and checked the date of this,broadcast - I was in college! The only TV available during those days was in a room at the dorm and we basically only watched Batman!!!

I like these newspaper features; it's a shame they did only two of these with John Daly.

Did John Charles Daly ever appear on the syndicated WML? Either as a panelist or mystery guest? There's very little footage of him in color out there as CBS only made B&W kinescopes of the final season. I know he was on the premiere episode of Green Acres from the fall of 1965 as a news commentator. As always I'm enjoying these shows you've taken all the time to post here

+Chad Quick Yes, as the mystery guest on the final WML.

That was in the network run. I don't recall him appearing in the syndicated run.

There is a 1975 special which features he, Arlene Francis and Mark Goodson commemorating the 25th Anniversary of "What's My Line?" That, as far as I know, is the only color videotaped footage of John Charles Daly and it's on YT. Maybe one day, they will uncover a color videotaped episode or two from WML's final season on CBS.

@@baclamom he appeared at the mystery guest on the final episode of HIS show! But I wonder why he DIDN'T appear on it!

As a slight correction, a newspaper documenting the burning of Washington could not have appeared before August, 1814.

Those newspapers were amazing! Surely prohibition was the craziest most unworkable legislation ever introduced by any country?
@Deejaay83urj383 жыл бұрын
Well, other drugs, less harmful also, are illegal. Why is it surprising booze was? Unworkable yes. That's the only reason it was legalised. They couldn't control that drug

Imagine fighting for years in the rat-infested trenches of WWI, for “freedom”, with no pleasure except the odd drink, and returning in 1919 to find a bunch of sanctimonious pearl-clutching bible-thumpers were about to make your life a living hell.

A bit more than 10 years of additional television work since the mid-fifties episodes of WML and Steve and JCD look like they've aged about 25-30 years and have lost any and every will to live.
@krystonjones5 жыл бұрын
Yes, JCD smoked his health away, and by the looks, Steve ate it, he was handsome when young & trim.
@kelloggs54735 жыл бұрын
Steve Allen revealed in one of his many books that he couldn’t drink alcohol because consuming only one beer put him to sleep. As far as I know, he never mentioned whether he smoked.
