Shivering Isles was kinda a brilliant DLC premise for Oblivion because it takes the uncanny valley, wonky AI, and general clunkiness and strangeness and applies it to a game-world in which those sorts of things actually fit and help define the setting.

Also the game world doesn't treat you like the epicentre of it. At least in the beginning. One thing i cant stand with Bethesda games is how you are at the same time just a dumb pawn but also you do everything worthwhile while everyone else is seemingly dumb and useless. I like it when RPGs make me feel like im a part of the world, not the world itself, and i also like when RPGs give you at least a sense of agency

@ Couldn't agree more. I hate the idea that these big head top shots keep demanding you do the biggest job with no help. "You must (X) and take it to (A). Then you must fight (B and C) to then fight the Legendary (D) and retrieve the lost (Y) and open the Ancient (Z). I'll reward you handsomely for it..." Oh, thanks asshole. Now I have to do a entire elite company's work by myself. Maybe they're just sending out people one by one rather than a whole battalion to save on money for compensation. Better to pay one person than 20. Added with the fact that every damn Guild holds you to the HIGHEST grade of ranking that normally take decades to get to with ease. You end up 4+ leading guilds just because you did their glorified "To-do" list. I'd much rather feel attached and a part of the world not feeling like I'm single-handedly the only person capable of anything.

The thing I really like is the fact that Wes Johnson does extraordinarily different kinds of voices in the same game...
