Merry Christmas young David!!! I can't wait to see what you've put out everyday. I've been modeling since 1963. I got an Aurora B36 and a tube of glue from my uncle Cylde. Since then that's all I've Really ever done. In Grade school we had Model airplane News in the Library every month. Got me started on Guillows and Sterling. Free Flight and crash. My Mom worked at the Airforce Base. She bought a Cox AT6 trainer. All the men and boys from the neighborhood took me to the ball diamond, where none of these Brainiacs couldn't get it started. Later on I figured it out. I was off and running. So when I left High School, I tried University, engineers but I wanted Money now. Went to work at Cessna for 7 years Learned to be a damn good Painter. 2nd shift lead until they laid us all off. 175 people to 17. I always teased I go to Beech and Paint the StarShips. Be careful what ya wish for. I ended up painting NC 2 to NC 53. All but 1. Point is all I've ever done is work on Planes. No I'm retired this year. I've gone RC nutz. I NEED to Thank You for the things You taught me about Engines. One more thing what's all this Crap with FAA? You have to have to fly? Like Transponder on your Planes. A FAA license to fly?!!!! Well I figure I been Lucky. I never work. I got to Play on My Planes Everyday. Now I just doing my very own. Merry Christmas David, Thanks for all you've done!!!!⁰

Merry Christmas to you. I like how the heat gun helps the epoxy soak through the fibreglass. Will have to try that next time I do fibreglassing although I mostly use polyester resin.

I'm getting ready to join the wing panels on a old Midwest Aeristar kit I picked up years ago!! I usually use 30 minute epoxy thinned with alcohol! Good job with yours!

Just a few drops of alcohol will extend the cure time but makes it a lot easier to manage! I use the acid brushes and get them in bulk!

Definitely joining wing panels is done with 30 min epoxy.

David, you are an inspiration to all of us. I need to repair my Sig Kadet and install new bearings in my Wonderful Fox 45 so I may fly soon.

I appreciate your kind words Calvin! I am really enjoying working with balsa wood again.

Merry Christmas Dave, looks great! You should get that monokote soon. I was sweating watching you race the 5min clock haha. When I glass I use 15min or resin. But I've used 5min and ca before too. It all works.

I’m formulating the covering scheme. For max underside visibility I believe that I am going to go with either red and white or black and white in some sort of simple pattern.

@@dmrcflyr2I like 2 broad strips on white 2 rib bays wide. Most of my planes have that. I like contrast from top and bottom.

@@dmrcflyr2 A simple way is to put 1 stripe per each wing 2 rib bays wide of white on the bottom. I use this on several planes. I'm big for in air visibility and contrast between top and bottom.

Merry Christmas! Cool video... Fiberglassing is a neat technique and I'm still a newbie to it. Never thought to use a heat gun with it, I'll try that next time. Also, where'd you get your fiberglass cloth? When I looked, it seemed to be a little scarce... But I got some from a hobby store in Dayton, OH (forgot the name)
@dmrcflyr219 күн бұрын
The fiberglass cloth that I use came with the airplane kit. If an airplane kit requires it, most quality kits will supply it with the plane.

Thank you for Sharing Sir, I really like watching Your progress & what a good job you have done so far. I know what you are talking about when you say you want to get started building again, We need to create, It is what we need to do. To dream & be inspired... Might I ask What fiberglass material you are useing? It is one of the items I havent sourced yet & I like how fine & light it is compaired to other fiberglass material I've checked out so far. I have some 30 minute epoxy I bought for High stress joints & fuel proofing firewalls. Someone on RC universe told me about it & they thin it down with IPA & the longer cure time allows more saturation in the balsawood before it kicks. Merry Christmas...✌👍

This fiberglass strip was included in the SIG Kadet kit so i have no details on it. I have never had an issue with proper saturation. Using IPA can negatively impact the curing of the epoxy. Don’t believe everything you read on forums. Thank you for watching!
