I had my NICEIC assessment yesterday and went over my audits, he was not impressed with the quality and language used. not worth paper it was printed on. Might be worth emailing the NICEIC and OZEV press office for a comment for your video.... sure they will have something to say. probably the usual pc speak but it would be interesting to see if the NICEIC have anything to say about the line at the end of the audit email 'we will tell your CPS' my assessor just laughed and said I doubt we would do anything as the report/audit is not of any use and poorly written.

It’s so annoying. I dont even install the ev chargers but it makes me so angry. The fact that you guys always go the extra mile and beyond to make sure it’s done not just the correct way, but the best way possible and these conmen are trying to pluck false reg numbers out to give you a bad report. There must be somebody you could report this to. Whoever is above thes guys

If Ozev audits are claiming faults that are clearly and demonsrtably not true, does that not open them up to legal action for reputational damage?

@@kirkhamandy Not really. Does it comply with the regs? Yes then the report is clearly and demonstably wrong. BS7671 and the on-site guide along with manufacturers instructions are all that is required. No RCD on a Zappi with an armoured supply cable is in compliance The Zappi has an inbuilt RCD. No sleeving through a wall with armoured cable? again in total compliance with the regs. Clear and demonstrable.

We got our 1st audit through last week and we have 2 x C2. Both of them are 100% not any kind of code. We even had a C3 for not informing the DNO when we obviously did. If we did not then OZEV wouldn't have paid us the grant in the 1st place. We are going back to the job next week and changing the so called C2's. They will be getting a nice email from me after asking about our legal options as our customer now thinks that we have done a poor job.

Had the same thing recently - C2 for SPD - Having a laugh - Also the person that did our audit didn't know the difference between plastic and metal for fire protection. Always a good start. One thing that did come up recently on a job was a guy installed his own cable and used plastic and he started kicking off because we said we were changing some to metal even though it was low on the ground. This comment on the audit from corey just shows we were right to replace some of them.

The Ozev reports are a waste of tax payers money. The results of those audits have no value to electricians or consumers. I have attended 50 failed audits and the lack of knowledge on manufacturers products and bs7671 is embarrassing. It is long overdue that we spin the spotlight on sparks right around and have a good long look up the food chain. Well done team Artisan for bringing light to this subject. Stay powerful

to be honest, there are sparkys whove been on a training course and are qualified electricians with niceic certifications just for doing a one of training course without mentoring. I've come across one who did lighting work in my mother in laws house. if people are taking government work to do jobs, they need to be audited.

Actually TN-C-S is a common system used allover Europe and in several other countries on this planet. Here in Germany its the most common system, and back until 1973 it was permitted to have TN-C even in final circuits. Creating such "nice" things like only two wires on socket outlets and a wire bridge, in the 1969 version of the VDE 0100 it was demanded to connect the PEN to the CPC terminal of the socket and from there a wire bridge to the neutral terminal of the socket outlet. And for the PEN fault we have a different solution. All buildings built after 1980 must have a foundation earth electrode, or a soil embedded earth electrode. Older houses usually used the incoming main water pipe (thick cast iron) as earth electrode. That system has several advantages: 1. Keeps potential of PEN close to real earth potential -> reduced stray current 2. Reduces earth-loop impedance, not a single electrode, but if everone has an electrode... 3. Backup in case of a PEN fault And since three-phase supply is common here, it's easier for EV chargers to detect this issue since you have several reference points (voltages between the lines must be 400V, and the voltage between every line and the neutral (PEN) must be 230V. If one of these factors fails, for example you loose one phase and its voltage drops to 0V, the EV charger will go into error mode and isolate itself if it's a good one. Because that's also a sign of a potential PEN fault, because in case of a PEN fault you actually got the loads in series between the lines. That means connecting or disconnecting loads will impact the voltage of the lines, depending on their impedance. For example you have an electric heater with 3680W (14.4 Ohms) connected to a circuit on L1, and a 20W (2645 Ohms) soldering iron connected to a circuit on L2. When the neutral where both are connected too breaks, both devices will be in series between the lines and create a voltage divider. The voltage will float freely between 0 and 400V, we call that a floating zero That will cause that the soldering iron will "see" a voltage of 397.8V and the heater only 2.2V. The lower the demand of the appliance the higher the risk you can throw it in the bin afterwards. In German we call that "Sternpunktverschiebung", literally translated "star point shift" (I don't find a proper English translation for that).

100% spot on with all you've said there. I don't think there is an English translation except for floating neutral. Have a look for a terrible story about Denishar Woods who was.electrocuted.when the neutral to their home broke and it was only single phase incoming. TN-C-S system and she was shocked by a garden tap! Three phase would have been better to absorb the current and alert the people to a bigger problem when appliances blew up. Grüße aus Südafrika

I suggest asking the OLEV office to referance which regulation each defect contravienes. Then you can check against the regulations and it will be immediately obvious if they are interpretting the regulations correctly.

16:45 well fire fighters use their foot to hug walls so they don't get lost in smoke filled rooms. If the cable support fails they could get tripped up or intangled. However this is not a concern on the exterior of the building as they will be standing 5m away with a hose 😂

my dad was a general handyman here in the us and wired up my house from scratch with 20A circuits using 12-2 cable. years have passed and the 12-2 cables are now colored yellow. well my brother in law went to temporarily move into that house but before it could be reconnected they wanted an inspection. the inspector was in such a rush he failed the inspection saying we was using 14-2 wire because the sleeve color was not right. i argued with him forever til he finally read the label on the cable and realized it was 12-2. never been so annoyed as i was that day.

I was reading an article the other day that had an interview with Jordan about these Audits but I've not yet had any conformation of any of our installs being audited. Sounds like it's going to be interesting reading when they eventually come through and I'm looking forward to the rant on them!

Great that you have shared your concerns about the EVCDEI Audit Report. My customer was sent a report on his installation which included SSEN, us and BP Pulse work and there were observations of non conformance against all parties similar to those you mentioned. Thats shocking by OLEV, no wonder there was a report out a while ago saying 80 something percent of EV installs were poor... Who are they getting to check these installs? Clearly that are untrained auditors with a clipboard and check list.. Even if it was t&e through a cavity wall with not additional protection I dont think it would be a C3, its not best practice but armoured and a C2 is a joke..

Here in Canada we have city inspectors that pass our installs in Rough in/Service/Final stages. Tbh, I've been leaving stupid stuff for them to find in certain area's when I know I'm gonna get a inspector that always finds something. It's easier for me to "miss" a staple right next to the main panel than let him find some super obscure issue that really isn't a issue but an interpretation of a code but will be a pain in the ass to fix. lately I've been feeling like my pass or fail (as well as reputation because I take pride in my work) is based on if the inspector slept well or had a fight with his wife yesterday.

Aaargh! @4:00 That's Dowsil normal 785+ solvent silicone for bathroom accessories, not 785N neutral-cure fit for electrical equipment! The fumes from curing are well known for rotting PCBs and making electric showers fail -- standard warranty failure from most manufacturers (who all now say you "don't need to seal around our shower!") if they see silicone they disavow responsibility. If you leave that back box to cure for 24 hours, fine, but he tells us he immediately fitted and fixed back the charger unit within the morning, trapping all the curing fumes inside. 6 months later that EV charger might expire!

I was very interested to hear of your OZEV experience. As a simple consumer, I have tried to contact them about a potential fraud, but they are impossible to reach. We had a solar installation last autumn, including a Zappi charger. It was my understanding that the get the OZEV grant, I would have had to supply proof that I had an EV on order. I am still awaiting the EV, and do have an official order form. My installer asked me for no proof, and claimed that the OZEV grant was included in the price I was quoted. So how did they submit a valid grant claim, or did they overcharge me and ignore the grant?

You'll probably find the inspections are being done by people who have to find faults in order to satisfy the system that they're doing their job properly. I remember some years ago being inspected by HMC&E (before they were amalgamated with the Inland Revenue) because I was importing a lot of stuff commercially from the USA and they wanted to know more about it. It became apparent in the course of the visit that the very best report the chap was politically able to write was, "Some small discrepancies were identified and advice given to improve but I'm satisfied that there was no attempt at fraud." He wasn't going to stop until he had some suitable anomalies to complain about, even if he had to make them up. In the end he had to settle for a payment which HMC&E had received - not from me - and for which I had no paperwork. In vain did I point out that the money demonstrably had not come from me. They had attributed a payment to my account and it was my fault that I couldn't explain it, even though I hadn't paid it. His second issue was equally idiotic, but it gave him what he needed to write up a mildly critical report.

If you've gone through the trouble of digging up the driveway or parkway I don't know what it's called. it seems crazy to not future proof yourself. I have a guy who wants to put a standby generator in the generator has a 50 amp socket he wants to run 10 gauge (30a) wire. Unfortunately Copper is expensive so I talked him in to go into the 50a, do we need three wires well you're gonna need two hots a neutral and a ground so yeah or would you rather have a space heater in your ceiling? I'm gonna be taking the ceiling down to put the sand I'm only gonna do this once. Plus he has an on-demand water heater and two heat pumps with electric back up, if you're gonna hook the generator up do it all the way that way you at least have a chance of using your heat/ac during an emergency. Oh yeah then there was the comment about using a Y cable and plug it in to 2 outlets why there's a nice double pole one on the front (although this generator does only have a 20a and 2x 30a's in different configurations and a 50A).

Are they charging their car inside the garage? Many EV handbooks tell you not to do this to prevent insurance claims for the loss of the building should the vehicle experience a thermal event (shows you how confident the manufactures are in the current cell technology!!)

The problem here is DEKRA Automotive Ltd & SR Electrical Services who are the contractor for the audits clearly don’t know the regulations. I’ve seen them code a 4mm EV ultra cable on a 32a DP RCBO as being a C2 as they say 4mm is underrated for 32a. 🤦🏼‍♂️ The clowns obviously don’t understand that BS7671 is not statutory or legally enforceable. Now, call me old fashioned here, but Doncaster Cables who make the damn cable rate 4mm EV ultra at 45a. I wouldn’t mind but the install in question was using 6mm EV ultra and it’s clearly marked on the cable. 🤬 If I made a error I would happily eat humble pie and rectify it straight away. But if they ever code any of mine incorrectly they can stand by. Makes my shit itch. Especially when you get muppets who don’t know the regulations or try and pass off their personal preferences as a regulation. NICEIC, NAPIT et al should be jumping all over these idiots.

Isnt it very dangeros to install Breaker boxes etc on wood here in Germanny this is forbiden. And also isnt it much better and safer to use a sheathed cable for the connections between the boxes the cable glands wont even seal

If anyone could give me some advice I'd be very appreciative. I'm 26 and have completed a level 2 electrical course. I've worked with an electrician for a while, but due to future plans he's not continuing with electrics. I'm torn between getting an apprenticeship with my experience or going straight in for level 3? The problem is financial arrangements. I still need to be able to afford my rent etc, I don't mind just getting by as it's for a future career. But Am in a fair place to negotiate apprenticeship wages? I have a van, own tools etc and can travel to jobs. Sorry for the long comment, I just don't know a community to go to for this kind of advice

Davo Savo doesn't do EV so he wouldn't have much to say but I imagine he would say something along the lines of "typical, some twat on an afternoon course who thinks he knows it all comes out and fucking tears apart a satisfactory installation, ruining your reputation and makes you look like a right pillock to your customer who you have to then placate and try to explain that you installed everything as per the regulations... its enough to rumble your balls"

Also on the issue of the so called audit who’s doing it??? Is it some university girl who has no idea what she’s doing and could never gain the skills knowledge or experience to do the job??? I’ve consulted bs7671 GN1 & GN3 and there is no way SWA going through a wall is dangerous or against any Regulations, I’d demand that said “auditor” comes back out and justify him/herself while yous are there!!! Also I’d demand a a re audit by a 3rd party and make OLEV pay for it and issue an official apology to you guys and the end client!!!

If there's no appropriate isolator, you contact the DNO to pull the fuse(s) for you. Some don't bother, but it's not best practice, lots can go wrong.

Has to be unskilled fast track course workers doing the audit. Im a gas engineer and a smart meter auditor attempted to riddor me for products of combustion entering a property and endangering life. Luckily the customer rang me and I was luckily driving past the job so called in whilst the auditor was there. He can't have been out of his teens yet and didn't have a clue what he was looking at. There was a black spray paint on the garage wall next the the brand new combi boiler that he thought was soot 🤦‍♂️. Bell end.

A CAT2 on a non-secure cable? Your cabling is secured against the wall (I've watched ALL your vids and i suggest the clown that carried out the audit to do the same.) The cable has insulation x 2. Live and Neutral has its insulation, aswell as the earth in most (but the earth insulation isnt even a concern itself) THEN the cable itself has insulation and the insulation on said cable is MUCH more than enough. So giving you a CAT2 is just pathetic!!! I mean, what do they want you to do? Fit PVC piping and run the cable through that??? It sounds to me as if its some kid just left uni and is try to impress his boss(es) with serving these notices. ( "Oh look, Boss. I found 3 x CAT2 errors at this install and 5 x CAT2 + a CAT1 at this home") Honestly. Its like you quoted. Some freckled faced fresher just left Uni just being a little twat. Like one of those itches on your back you cant reach. So damn anoying. You do GREAT work, Sir. You know it, I know it, your staff knows it and the viewers of your channel know it too. BTW? Did you know you can appeal the audit and have another Engineer come out to do a seperate, independant audit? Carry on as you are. Have a nice Easter. :)
