Hey Kaiju, thought I'd level with you here, because I'm such a big fan. Please listen closely to what I'm about to say. I'm the customer, I love consuming your content and I constantly come back for more. That means I'm always right. -- If you want your channel to grow, you need to leverage your advantages, and buying new equipment is a waste of money in your case, specifically because of this. -- Your biggest assets are, 1) Your encyclopedic knowledge of tokusatsu and kaiju eiga. 2) That your knowledge is a source of nostalgia for your viewers. 3) Your quirkiness. This is one point I feel I don't have to tell you, because I don't think you'll ever get this one wrong. You're someone I don't worry about changing who they are, and your audience appreciates that. 4) Your seniority on KZbin. This is one of your least tapped assets. -- So here's where I get more specific. You seriously DO NOT need new equipment. One of the MAJOR draws for viewers of your channel is the low-fi/low-brow and yet surprisingly erudite aesthetic of videos like your Kakuranger review. One thing I would make sure to do from now on though is exclude modern memes and make more nostalgic cut-jokes. What I mean here is, before getting to the point about equipment, that I should never have to hear a Frozen clip in a video about Zyuranger. You're cutting our supply with filler, dude. Give us the pure stuff. To the equipment point though, we, your audience, do not need a bunch of fancy effects and cuts in Kaiju no Kami/TAANN videos. That's breaking our nostalgic immersion. You should even apply this hard line to reviewing modern toku shows. When you're reviewing a new sentai series, you have the opportunity to make it feel like an old review to us viewers by using old equipment and old techniques. LEAN INTO THAT, FOR GOD SAKES!!! And yes, part of that is using old equipment. It both saves you money and will make your content look more authentic. Just do your best to push that old hardware to the limit, beyond what it was meant to do - exactly like we used to in the old days. That's authentic. -- Now here's the really big point I keep trying to explain to you these past years. We need better merch, and this is where we tie both the previous section back with the last two leverage points (3 & 4). Make immersive merch that itches that nostalgia spot for us, your viewers, who you would also like to be customers who buy your merch. Something like a "Kaiju no Kami fan club! Become an official Kaiju Ranger!" with a membership card, patches for defeating monthly monsters, trinkets for defeating quarterly kaiju that come with a short bonus webcomic, simple toys you could make by paying someone to design them and then pay to have small batches 3D printed, assemble them yourself, and release them as drops on your channel (people could buy from your website). I'm talking a kaiju beam emitter (just a cool mini rechargeable LED flashlight), a "Kaiju Ranger" power coin (can be ordered from arcade token suppliers or challege coin makers), a "Kaiju Ranger" multitool, a "Kaiju no Kami" kaiju-proof bento lunchbox!, etc., etc., etc. Some of these things would be extremely cheap to do, and I think you could probably develop and produce at least two solid starter ideas (low cost, small production run) for much less than what you want to spend on new equipment. Then you would actually have spent money on something that could directly earn money AND develop more of a stable community around your channel. Think of all the different series of collectibles you could design based on all the different movies and series you know front-to-back. Please, for the love of all that is good, leverage your knowledge and talent. But seriously, I would buy a Kaiju no Kami brand "kaiju detector" or a "monster energy detector". -- One last part of this is leaning more into your nostalgic personality in-character for videos. Kaiju no Kami is an expert on all things kaiju and toku. The jokes you make in review videos that get closest to this are the funniest. When you suggest something happened that clearly didn't, we your audience should act like it did. You should sell us merch to make sure we don't get hit by evil spells or scanned by aliens. When you make a discovery, you should be selling us a new gadget, etc. If you're selling us a shirt, you should go through the trouble of showing us a skit of you adding some special detail or ingredient that gives the shirts a power or upgrade. -- REVIEW>>NARRATIVE>>MARKETING MESSAGE (based on narrative) TO SELL MERCH>>SELL MERCH. P.S. Always good to give people their first taste for free, so always make the most essential part of your brand something like a free membership card. Being a hero shouldn't cost anything, but you should still get to be a card-carrying one. Join the Kaiju Rangers today!

I thank you for your feedback. However, I actually do need new equipment as my laptop can not hold a charge anymore, it struggles to render my reviews (It took me 3 times of having to restart rendering my Donbrothers review before it worked, and that was for the first version). Additionally, I can't get my laptop to play videos without frame rate drops anymore. My video editing software is 10 years old and cannot handle 4K files, it can not handle most new file types either. Now the merch idea is interesting (especially the TAANN logo coin, I really like that), but I don't have the funding to do any of that no matter how cheap it may seem. My paycheck is the $120-150 I get per month from KZbin in ad revenue. I quit teaching to fully focus on the channel, but without growth, my revenue is not going to grow either, which means I will have to go back to teaching and leave the channel in the dust. That's my conundrum.

@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork The only other suggestion I can think of then, that wouldn't cost anything, is to try and secure licensing and a budget from one of the copyright holders to write a book. Most of them have fairly good access to original press and printings, so visuals aren't as much a problem. If they give you a budget, they may also just do all the graphics design themselves to not have to outsource it. You have a seriously legit CV, and given that the coverage is so small stateside, I can't imagine you have much competition. I think there were maybe some other problems with this idea you mentioned before, but any variation of this where you could work directly with or for one of the Japanese companeis through their US disributors would seem like a no-brainer - if that happens to actually be feasible. Your mileage may vary on the idea. Just thought I'd give it the ol' college try.

@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork I'm rereading this and realizing I was right the first time. I'm the customer and I'm always right. You need to make your channel grow to get more revenue. You think you need new equipment to make that happen. The above is a false premise. A new laptop to handle new file formats only matters if you have new equipment - and I explained, the old equipment is what will help grow your channel. You should focus in on my suggestions. I'm right. That will grow your channel at your current funding rate. From there I would just avoid veering back into your original direction after your channel grows. Instead, reinvest that money into growing your own brand. Use it to make things you can sell us so those can be additional revenue streams for you. If you have no money right now then making nostalgic videos is your golden ticket. I think you should reread my first post and consider again how right I am, as the customer you're trying to sell to. Also, I think you should avoid using "AI" here on this channel. It's basically anti-nostalgia with an uncanny valley thrown in; which is the closest thing I can imagine to something being your kryptonite.

@@GamesbyMarcWolff I don't use AI for my videos. I hate AI. If you're referring to the VS AI videos, that's not's using AI for anything but a discussion point. Cruellica pulls up a list via AI and sees if I agree with the list or not.

@ That's good to know. My note about ai at the end was more an afterthought to be thorough. I've seen some other channels I follow go almost completely ai-generated on their content. It's tough to watch. I just don't ever want to see ai try to generate your content, so thank you for the reassurance.

The media outlet you see here on KZbin. Toku news, reviews, livestreams, convention coverage, etc. At some point, I would also love to be able to perhaps license shows myself and go through the process to release them for physical media.
