When you do the automatic UV Unwrap, there is an option which is called "Island margin" which is set to 0 by default (which is stupid). I would suggest increasing that if you do something like this again to prevent the speckling problems you had. You can also change the area weight and angle limit to create either fewer "larger but more stretched" UVs or more "smaller but less stretched" UVs. Also, if you wanted the glow effect that you added in Krita, you could add a volume scatter material to the world in blender, which creates fog/air perspective. You could also use that to add a glowy-gradient background using light sources, which you can add realism to by adding a 3d noise texture, or simulating smoke if you wanted go all out. Turning the world into fog does take a longer time to render though, so confining the fog to a volume contained by an object will make it so the render doesn't calculate fog off into the distance, thus speeding up the render.

6:59 There is no line. Every good idea should be implemented in every competing piece of software. Never complain about "stolen" features. It is nothing but positive for the consumer.
@paramelofficial9100
@paramelofficial9100 4 жыл бұрын
There is one, but I'd say 99% percent of features should be considered generic and not necessarily tied to any software. But there are cases where something is so specific that someone else implementing it into their software would be BS. Don't just think of Blender doing god's work and making stuff free, think of Adobe taking "inspiration" from something like GIMP. It's not always good for the consumer, it's sometimes a monopoly shutting down smaller businesses by making their products worthless, there should always be protection against that. Other than that though any single feature being the same can be theft if the code is the same or heavily inspired, as long as the software is not open source. So Blender would definitely have to go about implementing this feature in a slightly different way than Pixologic, because they can't copy paste it and call it a day, and in this case they don't even have access to the source code anyway.
@sanjacobs6261
@sanjacobs6261 4 жыл бұрын
@@paramelofficial9100 I fail to see how you'd get a monopoly in software, where every consumer is free to choose exactly what they want to use for themselves. And if Adobe was to "steal" GIMP's great curves feature, then Adobe users would get to use that great feature, too! Great! GIMP users didn't lose anything, it's just positive for every software user. I think any other attitude would be a weird MINE MINE ME MY OWN MY PRECIIOUS sort of Ebenezer Scrooge type of attitude. Which I just can't get behind.
@paramelofficial9100
@paramelofficial9100 4 жыл бұрын
@@sanjacobs6261 How can you say monopolies in software aren't possible when they're so insanely common? Microsoft, Apple, Google, Facebook. I do have to agree that other than OS, in the professional realm, monopolies are less relevant. But that doesn't mean that, should Adobe or Autodesk for example get the chance, they WOULDN'T mercilessly squash the competition. So you always need to protect the little guy. If the little guy makes his software closed source to make it profitable, he has to have a way to keep industry giants from stealing his stuff. And yes, if someone comes up witha briliant sollution to something and just a few months/years later it's been copy pasted everywhere, then that's theft, it's that simple. Again, I'm talking about raw code, about the actual invention, the thing you could potentially patent if you really wanted to, NOT THE FEATURE ITSELF. Your response really made my points seem 10 times crazier than they actually are, I don't understand why you felt the need to do that. I was just pointing out that the "it's all good for the consumer" mindset doesn't take into consideration hardworking developers, nothing more.
@sanjacobs6261
@sanjacobs6261 4 жыл бұрын
@@paramelofficial9100 Hahah, yeah, sorry it was so exaggerated, I haven't found a good single-word explanation for that attitude yet. I guess I don't think of web companies like them as software companies, but yeah, online there are lots of monopolies. Yeah, I see that practically, it'll be possible for Adobe or another giant to sue some smaller closed-source operation up the wall. (Which is fcked up, and I agree, there should be protections against that) Especially in cases of direct code copying. That's practically, of course. However ethically, I see no reason why any feature shouldn't be allowed to be implemented in any program. No matter which company has the higher sales volume. As for getting paid, developers are valuable not because of specific solutions they came up with, but because of their aptitude for coming up with solutions and implementing them. If anyone in particular keeps creating great solutions, they'll be headhunted and get their just desserts.
@paramelofficial9100
@paramelofficial9100 4 жыл бұрын
@@sanjacobs6261 In general that's true but there's a lot more improvisation in coding than it seems most of the time. Anyway, I gotcha. More specifically I think it should be much easier to get patent protection for specific software features. But also that patents shouldn't last as long. So, you wouldn't need 5 digit sums to pay for the cost of the patent, giving everyone the ability to protect their work, but that work is only protected for the next 5-10 years max. Even the exact code honestly, just make it open source after the time limit. If I spend the time and energy to come up with something I want it to feed me obviously, but once I have staked my claim on the market and had my chance to sell my product, I would love to see even more people enjoy my work. I do have to say the best thing for both the consumer and the devs is to make everything open source, but at the moment it's not really practical. It's not like ANOTHER free software could come in and compete with Blender, not really. You can't have a team of 5 people working full time to develop something if they don't have the same publicity, they won't get enough donations or patronage, and that's a shame. Making that viable would require a bit more...drumroll please...socialism. :P But anyway yeah I think we both cleared up our POV. Saying there is no line at all made it seem like you wouldn't even agree to basic existing protections that keep those monopolies from emerging (sometimes), that was my issue.

13:00 as u unvunwrap there is an option that defines how separate arehe uv islands (in the bottom left)
@lubedlegs
@lubedlegs 4 жыл бұрын
There is a easy way to reduce the spots mentioned at 13:00. 1. When Smart UV projecting set the border width (spacing between islands) to a greater value. 2. Create a proper map. Right now (at 13:00) you have a lot of dead spaces and the part on which you are drawing is really small. 3. a quick and dirty way of doing this is: select the mesh on which you want to paint on; look at it perpendicularly and press "project from view"; select the rest of the mesh (crtl+i) and unwrap it and scale it into a corner somewhere you don't mind. I hope i made sense, if not feel free to reply.

22:37 I think you need to 'Apply' armature modifier before you start making changes to the mesh to solve armature appearing every time you open project file. I think it is caused by a bug in MB-Lab plugin which forces armature to 'parent' to the mesh with automatic weights. It sometimes creates hilarious results (like limbs and breasts going out of bounds of viewport), but can be fixed easily by just deleting that armature with it's folder in outline panel on the right.

6:58 - Blender released it's cloth sculpting a few months before zbrush .... "good artists copy, great artists steal."
@Struct.3
@Struct.3 3 жыл бұрын
It takes longer than a few months to dev such a feature, im one of the Devs of kodon, and we had also been developing a cloth brush at the same time as blender, only in VR some things just happen to align that way. Im certain Zbrush was working on their cloth tools like a year or 2 before blender even released theirs
@JohnSmith-rn3vl
@JohnSmith-rn3vl 3 жыл бұрын
@@Struct.3 I am a software dev too. I am not entirely convinced that zbrush did not copy or at the least look at the code for inspiration. But yes absolutely, you could be right about that. If Zbrush did or did not copy it does not matter which is the point of my comment that you perhaps did not understand. "Good artists copy, great artists steal" . This is a compliment to Zbrush because great artists steal inspiration and use it themselves to make something amazing. In the art world there is nothing wrong with taking inspiration as long as you put the work in to make your piece unique instead of copying and pasting. The problem comes when you replicate something exactly as a mirror copy. That is when (sensible) people don't appreciate it imho. You can see the code commits for the cloth stuff in Blender. If we could see the zbrush code we could compare and know for sure. But I really don't care if they did or did not copy. I have no problem what so ever with a developer looking at any code for inspiration because code written in python for example still needs to be converted to say C++ in other software and merged into a completely unique code base and it needs to be understood which is a feat itself. That takes a lot of work and skill, there is absolutely nothing wrong with doing that. This is how we all learn code. And most importantly Blender IS open source. It is meant to be copied. I just hope that any developers that work on proprietary software do also give back to the community in the future in some way whether they copy from Blender or not :D
