I’m not a trucker, but I’ve lived in Washington State for the last 27 years. Having lived in 18 states, I love Washington the most. And the San Juan Islands? One of the most beautiful places on earth. And then there is the what you felt... Riding one of the San Juan ferries is an awesome experience. When Marianne and I want to get away, our favorite trip is to the San Juans. Being on a ferry for even a few minutes refreshes the soul, expands the mind, and reminds you that “life is good”. The excitement that you showed is what most of us feel when we ride those ferries! Welcome aboard! Dan.

Still have the boat and hope to do it again sometime. Those ferries mean business and don't stop for anyone, so we had to be on out toes to keep clear of them. I take it you landed at Friday Harbor, a cool little town! Hopefully your next trip you will have more daylight to enjoy the great views!

OK so if you ever want to go on another ferry for your 18 wheeler there is another ferry in Texas that goes from bolivar Island over to Galveston or from Galveston over to bolivar Island and it is paid for by the state of Texas it does not cost you anything it’s free if you ever have a chance to get down that way they will take a loaded or empty 18 wheeler across it’s about a 15 to 20 minute boat ride.. I am extremely fascinated in how well u pursued a less traditional career path for someone of your size. Like I said, we are similar in height. But my size also didn't keep me from pursuing my interested. Unless I am standing in front of a mirror, I never let my size stop me from pursuing non traditional career paths..And as long as I knew what I was talking about, I found that I was accepted regardless of my gender. I can relate. For 5 years I peddled freight to Vancouver Island for a hardware chain. I'd start in Sydney, just east of Victoria, then up the island to Port Hardy, back to Comox, over to the mainland and down the Sunshine Coast. It was 2 days and 5 ferry rides, ranging in size from the biggest in the fleet to a small one that only fit 3 trucks. I LOVED that run, and would still be there, if only the company had survived. Happy Trucking.

Those low air pressure warnings are like nails on a chalkboard, aren't they? 😂
@Chris_Lohmann4 жыл бұрын
@xheralt I'm well aware of how crucial air pressure is. I pull doubles for FedEx Ground as well and drive the same make and model truck that Shelby drives (Freightliner Cascadia) although mine is a 2018. A common problem with the new Freightliners is FALSE low air pressure warnings. You'll be driving along and the alarm will go off and you'll look down and the air pressure gauge is normal (110-120 psi). At least three of our trucks do that. We've taken them to Freightliner and they've been unable to determine what causes the problem or how to fix it. It's been really annoying.
@Chris_Lohmann4 жыл бұрын
@xheralt In fact, the new Freightliners have been so problematic that my contractor is currently in the process of replacing all of them with Volvos.

My best memory+ OTR trucking was on a run from St. Louis to California. A huge thunderstorm over the Texas panhandle on I40 west toward Tucumcari, NM. No visibility and about 45mph across Texas west from Amarillo. But somewhere near the west end of the wind farms (which is kinda cool to see the whole landscape blinking in unison) the storm broke and the full Moon rose slowly directly over Tucumcari. It was one of the toughest and most beautiful runs I ever took. Now I drive a municipal bus for Tahoe Transportation District and get to see gorgeous sunrises, snow capped mountains, serene vistas and green pastures every day. I couldn't ask for better! Great content! and have a safe drive! Maybe some more footage of the beauty to be seen across America?

I have been seriously considering trucking lately. Your videos, from among a great many trucker youtubers, are extremely informative and entertaining - actually helpful info and not negative, angry ranting. Watching your videos has enabled me to envision trucking realistically, as in, "if this person can do it so can I." And that's nothing to do with gender, but rather because of your demeanor and attitude while working such a serious and potentially dangerous job.

Great Video - Taking your theme of "How Islanders Get Their Packages" there is one more stage in your process in some island locations. In the summer months my wife is the mail/freight person on the US Mailboat on Lake Winnepesaukee in New Hampshire - when FedEx, UPS, DHS, USPS need to get packages and mail to island residents she does the "last mile" of the journey you are describing.
