It took a while to find this site after "Secondhand Model Trains" was shut down but here I am and glad I found you. Great review and video, Jersey Bill

Love the Taurus, too. Great sound as they accelerate. I managed to pick up a near-new Roco model for the price of a Piko Hobby model new. Despite its age, it still is more refined than the Piko model. That being said, it's great that Piko have kept the 'Hobby' range as a more budget way of getting into Continental modelling given the high prices most manufacturers charge. Great analysis as always.

Wow that PCB brought back some bad memories! I have a couple of PIKO N gauge locos and I had to return the first one because the electrics inside were a complete mess. It was designed with one kind of DCC socket but PIKO required a different socketed sound decoder - very odd but whatever. But PIKO’s soldering was just dangerously bad, burnt cables, risk of shorts, frayed wires. The exterior detailing though is rather good.

With sound you get the Do ray me fa sound as the regulator is notched up on the earlier versions. Later versions do not have this feature as the notches are smoothed out in the electronics.

Hello,i have Taurus models, including two Piko Hobby models, where I replaced the ligthing from incadescent bulbs to red and white LEDs. Two Rocos, one for an 8-pin decoder and the other for a 22-pin decoder. Honestly, Roco has bettter details and workmanship than Piko. Regards Daniel

Nice loco. I don't understand why manufacturers super detail the underneath of locos and rolling stock as you would only ever see the underside if you were modelling a derailment. 🤔
