Amazing. Set in the late 1960's/early 1970's judging by the road vehicles. But did collieries still have those mid-19th century pumping engines during that era?

Has the ground been done to look like its been raining?
@RJdeVries842 ай бұрын
Yes, I did this on purpose, there are many puddles dotted around as if it has just been raining, it's set in an autumn theme so it's very appropriate.
@ThatModelRailwayGuy2 ай бұрын
Not sure there's anything else I can add here when the original creator has already replied 👍 I will say that in yards where steam locos are working regularly the ground does tend to get fairly wet regardless so perhaps should be something we all consider in the future. Thanks for watching 😃

How is the coal getting from the pit head to the loading Tower?
@ThatModelRailwayGuy2 ай бұрын
There looks to be a conveyor from the buildings at the back to the loading area. Given the amount of work that's gone into this layout I'd imagine it's been fully thought through. Thanks for watching 😃

The point motors (tortoise) run of a 9v supply via a toggle switch.

Beautiful. Wonder how you would make that wet muddy surface. Tutorial? 😂
@ThatModelRailwayGuy2 ай бұрын
I didn't make this layout - but if it were me I'd use filler or modelling compound to build up the ground, then mud texture paste or ash powder for the surface texture with various oils to make it more grimy. You could add some puddles either using small bits of acetate or resin if you really want to go all out. Hope that helps and thanks for watching 😃
@RJdeVries842 ай бұрын
The base is DAS modelling clay painted with Tamiya acrylic XF63, weathered down with thinned Revell 9 enamel and a hint of dry brushed dark brown. The puddles are made using leftover realistic water from woodland scenics. The markings and tyre marks are made using a car or lorry driving it on the wet clay.
@ronnyskaar37372 ай бұрын
@@RJdeVries84 Thanks a lot!!! The result is just awesome! Like the rest of the layout! I live in the wet western Norway, and should certainly have some mud. 😄

GREAT DETAIL DOESN'T MAKE A GOOD LAYOUT ! Indeed one of the biggest changes since "DCC" rolled into town, has been a major improvement in "Commercial" detailing accessories ! But the downside has been a disastrous collapse of modelling comprehension on the Operating Side. Indeed it is horribly apparent that todays "DCC Brigade" have absolutely no idea of the rules of real railways. Such as what vehicles & locos use which brake systems & are they compatible with each other in Real Life. Or even Couplings & Corridor connections. You can't for example couple LMS & GWR coaches to SR, LNER, BR, or Pullman types as they used two different types of corridor connections, buffers and couplings. And making the excuse at exhibitions that it's just "Good Fun" is simply hiding the ignorance. Indeed most of todays layouts are just "Out of the packet" commercial toy train sets !!!
@ThatModelRailwayGuy20 күн бұрын
But none of those actually have anything to do with DCC. Those mistakes/choices could easily be made on any analog layout too. God forbid people actually have fun and enjoy their hobby though. Thanks for watching 👍

Popular at school were you. Now just how many rivets have you counted in your lifetime?

@@kenstevens5065 You've bitten off more than you can chew. I'm a well known professional Senior Railway Mechanical Engineer, who has worked for numerous Railways from British Railways to the New Zealand Government Railways, as well as three Japanese Railway Companies. The Keio, Odakyu & JR Central. Indeed its thanks to me the British NRM has a Japanese Bullet train cab car in their Museum. And I'm also a well known Professional Modeller, with many articles in modelling magazines around the World, including Peco's "Continental Modeller" magazine (just ask their Editor Andrew Burnham). I was also the person who introduced Japanese outline model products to Europe. Having been the Founder member of the Japanese Railway Society, and its Editor for years. And the owner of "JR Models" the only Official Import, & Wholesale Company for ALL Japanese main range model products in the whole of Europe to date. And obviously as a Qualified real railway Engineer, I am fully conversant with the technical aspects of British Railways rolling Stock, something it seems few British Modellers seem to know anything about these days. Hence my previous Post !
