Even if these girls "got a job" they'd still be relying on some form of government assistance, and they'd still struggle to afford their rent. Single parents to young children can rarely work full time, they need income suppliments from the government to afford to live. Even if they worked full time, they wouldn't take home enough money to pay full rent, council tax, food, bills etc. These women aren't the issue..... The damn rental market is. Absolutely sky high rents, and zero stability for renters. Paying a mortgage on a two bedroom house might be (for example) £450 a month, but RENTING the same two bed would be £800+ a month. So a mortgage is CHEAPER and PERMANENT, but renting is more expensive and not permanent. It's just madness. Our system is a complete mess. Trust me, I know as I'm in this situation.

As a female and with a child you should count yourself extremely lucky. Men aged over 17 have absolutely no hope. They are never given priority. They routinely get refused any housing and are expected to live on the street. Councils keep scatter houses away from men and give them to either women or women with kids. The second part I kind of agree with. However, in a world fighting for equality how dare they prioritise women over men. They determine that a woman is more vulnerable that a man of the same age, based entirely on their gender. Which is absolutely disgusting!! When statistics prove that men are at much higher risk of being attacked or experience violence on the streets. In any case, no one sex should have priority. And we should be doing way more to keep all people housed.

Jamie Reid as a woman I agree with you. To be a single white male is the hardest of all. I’m a single mother but I am lucky me and my child’s father decided to seperate amicably he works full time pays maintenance and has ongoing regular contact with our daughter. Both sides of our families help with child care and I work for local government authority so have many benefits ie flexible working long term sick pay. I see women I work with totally rip the piss out of the fact they have a child and therefore feel entitled to more, more holidays, more time off, leaving early, coming in late. These same women argue about sexism when a man is promoted before them. Thing is he’s not going to take a year maternity leave come back part time and demand time off when their child is sick. Women can be hard work. Careful no feminist nut jobs see your comment 😂

Men and women are equal except in two aspects where they both have an advantage over the other. With men it is physicality. D S R I appreciate what you're saying, however I do think that it takes a certain amount of privilege and luck in life to see things in quite that way. It's fair to expect people to at least try to pull their own weight if they can, but the price of simply existing in this world is getting too much for many to keep up with.

Everyone in the comments are talking about the women not keeping their legs closed or about them not being responsible as parents but what if they had children and THEN had to go into temporary accommodation. Imagine you for example having a kid and then losing your house due to them selling it or the prices of housing being overpriced and you have no other way to provide for your children but to go to the council. Sure you may be thinking they should get a better job or something but it's hard to get employed these days and having a kid on top of that isn't helpful. I mean there are factors which play a part in why they are homeless which we don't know about so why is everyone making comments when they don't know what's behind the camera lens? What if the kids father left or they got fired or they were in an abusive relationship or someone did something- you get the point. All the people who are making these comments should be grateful they have a place to live and that they aren't living there. You may not agree on how your taxes are spent or whose in the system but please don't make these comments about people you don't know or in general...

Whoever runs Connect House knew they were onto a brilliant cash cow with the council when they put together the original business plan. Don't forget, your taxes are paying those rents. If you've got any sense and you have a decent investment, you'd be mad to overlook any business plan which involves easy delivery of essential services to a council e.g. very basic accommodation.

Further proof that London is too overcrowded and expensive for anyone other than highly paid workers to live. The immigration crisis which is in my opinion 90% to blame is so bad in London it’s now spilling out to other cities. I read somewhere the population of UK is the same as Canada can you believe that Canada look at the size of Canada compared to UK we just can’t fit anyone else in here. The council will never have enough money to build more houses as the majority of council tenants don’t pay rent therefore they lack the funds needed from rentals to build more. People are having more and more kids to the point that HMRC will no longer pay for anymore than 2 kids norms after April 2017 they have finally realised tax credits where seen by some as money making scheme how much longer until more and more benefits and services are cut or discontinued? People need to realise that the world or the country they live in does not owe them anything it is not your right to have free housing or free money free health care free education. Take a look at other countries around the world they don’t hand out half of what the UK does. People with this sense of entitlement need to stop and think if we all had their mindset and just didn’t bother to work where would the benefit money come from? Nowhere as you need workers to foot the bill. Anyone in London who can’t work or afford to live there independently need to consider a move to a more affordable area.

@GabijaValatkaite6 жыл бұрын
Your comment has a point however we don't know the story behind the women in this video. They could've had a good life before coming into the system and something happened which caused them to go to the council for help. If you had a stable life and then it all came crashing down and you had a kid, you would surely try and think of alternative solutions so that you can support them. These women could've been in an abusive relationship or the father walked out of the child's life shamelessly or they might not have relatives which they can depend upon. You can't be quick to judge their circumstances I'm not trying to prove you wrong I'm just trying to open up your perspective.

Same, I would have loved a place like that when I was younger. In my first flat, I had to put out buckets for when it rained, I had to walk up a fire escape to get in and it was full of shoddy repairs inside but it was mine and I was just grateful that on my small wage, I had my own little place to rent. My first job with staff accomodation, I shared a sink and 2 hob rings with 5 others for cooking and we had 1 bathroom between us. It worked fine, people seem to expect so much these days but when you work, you make the most of what you can afford.

All these people blaming the girls for having babies, have you ever thought that maybe when they got pregnant their life was extremely different and they could see a bright future. People’s circumstances change and we don’t all have families and other people to fall back on to financially support us. Maybe if child care was made easier and cheaper these girls would be able to go out and work and put a roof over their children’s heads, that would be a luxury to be able to earn money and provide for their families. A year ago, and they were paying £200 a week to live in a poorly-converted warehouse. So their outgoings must have been well over £1200 a month, if we include food, water, gas and electric, council tax, etc. The lowest average wage in the UK is Southend, with £413 a week, and the ASHE calculated average UK earnings of those aged 22-29 at a max of £477.9 a week for men and £440.8 a week for women, including London, and graduates. How's a 22yo single mother, with no higher-education going to extracate herself from this situation?

So if they get a part time job, will that cover their £800-£900 rent plus bills plus food plus tax? Let's do math: my rent £800, a full time wage at my previous job: £1,100. Oh.... That leaves £300 for food, clothes, gas, electricity, council tax, TV licence, water...... Plus the government gives 30 hours childcare a week, but a full time job is 37.5.....so let's add on extra childcare for the morning and after school. Do all that math, then work and stick your child in childcare for 90% of its day.... Then one day you can get a letter through your door saying your land lord wants you to leave as they want their house back. Off you go to look for another house, but you get turned down left right and centre. Hmmm, let's check at the bank for a mortgage? Declined as you're a lone parent, or becausr you haven't got a good enough credit as you've struggled to make ends meet. Life isn't as black and white as you think, so don't judge until you've experienced it.
