Other reasons to go back Ipoh - airport basically in town so it’s just a short 20min ride to hotel generally. Also, it’s not as popular a destination compared to Penang, KL so fly tix tend to be cheaper. Just that other than eating, there really isn’t much to do or see there. Next time you can consider combining with Cameron highland trip, rent a car and drive to Cameron highland to stay 1 N then come back. Last time we dabao salt baked chicken from Ipoh to Cameron highland to eat in our hotel room. Still tasted good even when cold.

If you wish to view old 60’s Hong Kong architectures in Malaysia, you should visit Sandakan in the state of Sabah. Many of the residents there have ancestral and family links to Hongkongers
@fuelandersonchow Жыл бұрын
HK and Malaysia were under British colonialism. Hence the buildings and architecture were heavily influenced by that era's colonial master. So it is no surprise that Irenerene mentioned the similarities. Sandakan and Ipoh Oldtown experience slower development compared with other cities and towns. Even Singapore's Chinatown and Tanjong Pagar vicinity still managed to maintain the similar characteristics except they conserved and rejuvenated those buildings unlike Ipoh or Sandakan.

This is strange to me, all along we knew our ancestors move to Malaysia from Southern China hundred of years a go. Only in recent years I heard from a friend from Sabah that his grandparents from Shan Dong, yes they have the Shandong people features. Big size, very tall, very fair skin. 😱😱😱😱naaniiiiii ??!! Also another girl friend said his dad was born in HK and moved here 1 year later (in his 60s now). Malaysian Artist RedHongYi (Sabahan) have also mentioned that her paternal grandparents are from Shanghai. How did that happen? Anyone enlighten me please ?
@vccc57 Жыл бұрын
@@Y3llow_Submarin3 My geography teacher had Shandong roots. Back in the 60’s, many tailors in KL were Shanghainese, specialising in western suits. Yes, there were ‘non-southerners’ but very rare. Historians say the first wave of Chinese migration dates back to 10th century Admiral Zheng He’s time. The migrants then were mainly southerners as well. In other words, westerners were not responsible for early Chinese migration. Why mostly southern Chinese? Probably there was greater hardship in the south then.
@Y3llow_Submarin3 Жыл бұрын
@@vccc57These tailors almost disappeared nowadays. Can still see some in Pudu, OUG and one in Batu Pahat I think. Because the northern ones ran to the south like Shanghai, HK, Guangzhou, Taiwan. Southern one went more down.
@s._3560 Жыл бұрын
@@Y3llow_Submarin3 There are many many waves of Chinese immigrants down to Malaysia and Singapore, as well as the rest of S.E.A. Some immigrated centuries ago. In the last century (20th century), other waves were usually triggered by huge life-changing events in China such as foreign invasion, trade, the Qing dynasty downfall, the republic and WW2, civil war and the Cultural Revolution. Now there are still waves of Chinese migrating due to business and job opportunities.

Just finished spending a week in Ipoh. I'm taking a bus to Malacca tomorrow morning. In my opinion, the Chinese food in Ipoh tastes better than in Penang and in KL, but I think the Chinese food in HK, SF, Toronto, Vancouver, and DC, all taste better than in Malaysia. From watching all of the KZbin videos on Asian food in Malaysia, I had very high expectations, so I'm a bit disappointed. However, you can't beat the prices and value in Malaysia.

What you have eaten there are just some of the normal Malaysian food you can typically get anywhere in Malaysia. If you want to really try Ipoh food that is unique to Ipoh , you should google and do some research first. For example .. Ipoh is famous for beansprouts and it's the fat type due to their rich limestone areas .. So eat their beansprout chicken . Other superb delicacy is their CCF ( Chee Cheong fun ) and it's different compared to the HK version . Their CCF is just so silky and smooth .. probably the best you can find in the world. Also their Kai Si Hor Fun , Egg tarts , Ipoh White Coffee ( which you had it already ) . Dry Curry noodles , Yong tau fu .. As for dimsum , HK dimsum is better so you can give it a skip on that. The people in Ipoh speaks a lot of Cantonese .. same goes for KL people too but if you go north like Penang.. they speak Hokkien . Not sure about the south but I think they speak Mandarin more. Malaysia is just a huge cultural hotpot and it's reflected in the food, hence why Malaysian cuisine is one of the best in the world.
